Yes i was shocked they didn't make it either... there show was original it was freakin cool to see something different for a change... i guess the judges didn't like it too much

So I am from "TEXAS" and competing was the funnest thing ever. Yah our show was different but we all like different.. so it was fun. we came close though. ( fourth in our division and i think like seventh over all) I am so glad that everyone who got to see us enjoyed it. we are the only real show choir in texas, so we getting ourselves into the swing of things. and we know our show is different, but i love our teacher for that because we like different. i am sure we will try to come back next year and i hope you guys enjoyed it mucho mucho.

Hey ya'll! Just wanted to say that competition Saturday was great!! There were alot of awesome groups, and just think...it's only the end of January. There is still plenty of time for everyone to become even greater! I really look forward to seeing improvements not only with our group, but with everyone else's.
As for the topic of Pascagoula vs. Spain Park, we can't wait to see them. We're really looking forward to competing against them. It's going to be very interesting to say the least!

No, I'm pretty sure it's going to be Pascagoula by a long shot.

Really?? I saw Spain Park last year at the Homewood competition and they floored me. I figured they have probably gotten better since then, but i could be completely wrong. I guess we will just have to see. I can't freakin wait!!!

Saturday was a bunch of bull i dont know if the judges did not like northeast but we where awesome and im not the only one that think that and i not trying to be all stuck up.

Personally in my opinion i enjoyed your show much more than West. I freakin loved the boys number... im not taking sides or anything just giving my opinion. It was more fun to watch, but some minor things were off choreography and vocally.

Its going to be great to see how Pascagoula and Spain Park match up this year.. now that is going to be a freakin close competition.

No, I'm pretty sure it's going to be Pascagoula by a long shot.

oh yeah while i am thinking about it... Albertville gets best costume award in my opinion. Their second outfits rocked. Lots of colors, and.... the guys were wearing freakin converse. kudos for that, that scored them brownie points with me

From what I was told, half the group was out sick, so they chose not to compete this weekend.

I hear they've got a wonderful show. It will be great to see them at thier competition next week.

I'll agree with the claim for lack vocal complexity. It was pretty suprising yesterday to hear so many groups do unison siging. One group in particular that I will not name sang unison all but 4 times in thier show. Four times. I'm from a smaller group, and I still help them, and honestly I wish that the judges would have taken that into more consideration. I harp on my group about the presence of parts becuase it's simple, the more complex music is, the richer a sound, the higher you should score. Someone made a comment that a certain group outsang another group. The group that supposedly outsang the other group sang unison the whole time. When you're delving into the smaller groups of the medium mixed division, of course singing usnion will produce a larger sound. It's sort of disapointing. I sort of want to yell to my group "don't worry, I won't yell at you about parts, sing unsion, you'll be louder!"

...

Good Choreography does not equal most cymbal crashes in one show.

Difficulty of music is no longer existent considering almost everyone sang unision 3/4's of their show.

I definitely agree with both of these statements.

I was oh-so-guilty of the cymbal crash thing yesterday, myself. Hopefully it won't be that way when I actually have our cymbals to work with...long story, not worth it.

Oh, and as I'm sure everyone could've already guessed, I'm going to give my spill on who I thought should've won, and why. Please, do not take this as a stab at any other group, because that's not hardly what I'm all about.

Homewood was the best all around group there yesterday.

Choreography: I saw only a few blunders here, and even those were understandable for the difficulty of it; April James is no slacker in this department, by any means. They performed the choreography well all-in-all, especially while having to overcome blocking problems on such short notice. Overall, I'd give it an 8 of 10.

Vocals: After prelims? I was worried. After finals? I was convinced. (You bought my undying, and perhaps creepy, "#1 group" support for yet another year..sorry.) Their vocals were not only well executed, they were complex. Great blends, nice dynamics.

Show design: I didn't see any real let-down points. I mean, there wasn't a part of their show where I was just bored. I never leaned over to LeeAnne to say "What were they thinking?," or felt that something could've been better arranged to fit the show. No one song just bombed so badly that you deserved last in finals. Oh, and cool, top-notch backdrops too, as always.

Band: Most show choir students don't realize it, but it truly does take a fantastic band to have a fantastic show choir. You can't expect to go anywhere and compete to win if you have an inexperienced, very small, quiet band. Thankfully, Homewood has this part of the equation figured out too. I loved it.

Maybe it's a good thing that I decided not to major in music, and one day become a show choir director/judge, because I never can seem to come to terms with the final results of these Southern competitions..

Homewood, you rock! End of discussion.

See you in two weeks.
