Thanks for all the nice comments about the 1st South Jones Invitational! It was a really great comp for our first time at it! The parents did an awesome job preparing for it! I had a great time watching all the groups....YES....All of the performances! I was at the sound board. I really enjoyed changing the batteries in the mics and saying, "Mic check, one-two, one-two!" Oh well somebody has to do it! All of the shows were great. Northeast and West have stepped up... all you other small division schools better watch out! Could have gone either way in my book. As for the larger schools, WOW! Albertville...Awesome! Petal...Stepped up BIG time in finals! Homewood... I had you higher than you got, Great show, Keep your heads up! Northeast.. Congrats on your first finals! Innovations...Wonderful show! Especially Kayla, Anna and Bethany! The smaller schools put on great shows also, Laurels show was short but really good.

Jonathan McKenzie at South has done a wonderful job at South and has a lot to be proud of. Company did a wonderful job hosting, the parents support is secong to none and the job he does is top notch! I am glad to have worked with a great organization such as this!

See ya at the next competition!

Thanks to everyone for posting such positive comments about Albertville on here. That's such a relief. We started this year really scared, beacause half of our choir ended up being Freshmen and new people at our high school. " border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> We figured out how to really work together and we are a TEAM now. I love it.

A little more on subject, I thought South Jones' competition was awesome. Everyone did an amazing show. I'm really excited to see CENTERGROVE again this year. I loved their show last year with the feathers, and acordian 'geeks'. It was great.

Furthermore, I heard Clinton was going to be at Petal's comp. Is this true? Could someone send me some info.....time, where, schedule, ect. PLEASE! I say that would be an awesome road trip to make. Totally worth it.

Congratulations, good luck, and God Bless Show Choir!!!

Sorry, Homewood...

Cody and LeeAnne did all they could, except rig the competition..we did try, though.

I'll save all my comments about everyone's show, ESPECIALLY Homewood's, until I have more time to type. Until then, just know that "The Network"'s 2006 show will forever be our favorite, as will the people who performed it.

The Network- I'm just going to put it out there....It goes like this: It's such a bizarre feeling knowing that as of right now we're the best we've ever been at Homewood, and it still wasn't good enough for some people. (For all you new people...welcome to the life of Homewood Show Choir ;)) But when I got off that stage after our finals performance, I knew placements didn't matter. Our talk right before we went onstage and that finals performance were what it was ALL about, and NO judge can take that away. (Well, except for maybe Wanda Saul.....haha..just kidding ) It was absolutely shocking, yes, but HEY! See you Monday night!

Thanks Chris!! I love you too!.. you know i was rootin' for ya'll! i really loved the show.. the songs this year were like an old CD you found that you loved, you know? All REALLY good songs that you don't hear that often.. lol.. it was very fun to watch.. The lights in the back were fun to watch to... but I'm so frikkin ADD that I sat back there trying to figure out the pattern the lights were going in! ugh. dang. lol.

I thought all the groups that I saw perform were awesome... I guess we really got a reality check after pre-lims.. we knew we REALLY had to step it up! Albertville, WoW. you guys really put up a GOOD fight. You motivated us a lot. Many of us didn't know how it felt to come in second but we needed to know and we're going to work as hard as we can to make sure we don't have that feeling again this year. Winning in finals was a great accomplishment for us because our group really had to come together and work as a team and, I'm VERY proud of the Soundsations for that. Thank you. It's early in the year and i have a great respect for every group that competed this weekend. I know you've all been working hard just to get this far. I can't wait to see how much you all progress at petal's invitational.

There I feel better. I spilled my guts. I really hope that no one from Albertville takes anything I said the wrong way ( I know that happens a lot on here). This weekend has taught me a very valuable lesson. This weekend I experienced tears of sadness and tears of joy all within about 4 hours. I've have learned to be a gracious winner as well as a gracious loser. So thank you to everyone this weekend. It was a great experience.

First off, congrats to all the finalist and winners. This was my first show choir competition to see live since this is my school's first year to have a competitive show choir (Jackson Academy's Encore, directed by Mrs. Holbert). We backed out of this competition so we can prepare a little bit longer before debuting. Anyways I was very impressed by the 3 AA class show choirs. It gives us a drive to get better (even though i'm a senior and won't be able to have many more show choir experiences ). Still I enjoyed seeing all the choirs and I hope to see more at Petal.

Competion was amazing...That was my first time to see petal and i was amazed...Overall it was one of the best competions i have been to...South Jones are freakin awesome and yall were really nice....i have a crush on our hosts(kim & leah)but i embarrissed myself when kim came and hugged me and her hair got caught in my braces...How are u supposed to act after that...Also we were congragulating petal after the prelem performance and a girl fated right in front of me...it scared the crap out of me but they said she does it all the time...But if there was on thing i would change is in our final performance stupid me ran out on stage in the girls feature....

I was trying to come into this competition not getting my hopes up after Picayune last year, and thankfully I didn't because I would have truly been let down. I haven't seen score sheets, but it seemed like politics played a much larger role in this competition than any spectator could have imagined. I'm also sorry if I offend anyone in my opinions because this does not reflect the entire opinion of the Homewood choir, just my personal opinion on everything that happened last night.

Albertville: I saw you only in Finals, but it was incredible. Renegade was awesome, especially when the whole group gets in lines and sing. It is one of the loudest sounds I have ever heard. The girls closer costumes are very different, espcially when some of the girls are flashing the audience in the chorus.

Petal "Soundsations": You must have stepped it up in Finals because after your Prelim performance I felt there was no way you could beat Albertville in Finals. The show is typical Petal, but not as polished as it use to be with Mrs. McGinnis. There was just something missing from the Petal that was a dynasty just a year ago.

Petal "Innovations": Not much to say, the best girls group I have ever seen in my life. Thanks for switching with us for Finals in performance order. There is one girl that stands out in aa good way but as well as a bad way. She is a very good dancer, but her mouth remains open the whole in her faces, even while not singins and it is very distracting.

South Jones: Simply Amazing. I loved every second of the show. Costumes, Vocals, Choreography are nearly perfect for January. You have replaced Petal as Number 2 in the South in my opinion.

Cody and Leanne were the two best hosts that I have ever experienced in show choir. They were willing to do anything, even without being asked. They talked to almost every member of our group and were very encouraging. I enjoyed talking to both of them at lunch for nearly thirty minutes. Cody also helped us on and off the stage during performances. We were blessed to have you two as our hosts.

I never saw Northeast so I can't say much but congratulations. Also I've heard the guy who won solo was incredible.

If anyone was wondering our show:
Opener: Seven/Melt With You-(Soloist Mercy Kinuya)
Ballad: If I Can't Love Her
Transition: Simply Irresistible
Guys: Africa
Girls No More Tears(Enough is Enough)-(Soloist Sarah Litchfield and Joy Lampkin)
Closer: Take On Me

i'm not going to say my group deserved anything more, but i think homewood should've placed higher in the finals.
i LOVE homewoods show this year...i think i'll buy a dvd of it and watch it over and over.
i didn't really see anyone else.
maybe we'll do better in the other competitions.

and of course, I too have just a "few" things to say:

I only saw the Final performances, but I must say that I was shocked when I got there, and heard of the prelim placings.

West: I really wanted to see you all's show. I hear it's quite amazing. I look forward to seeing you all in FINALS at upcoming competitions. I'm sure you all will dispel any assuptions that have or are rising right now.

Northeast: Finals? What? 1st time ever? I was very impressed with Northeast. They had many elements of a great performance. The showmanship was AMAZING. I think you all have one of the problems that most smaller groups have, volume. Everything was amazing, but I was like, they just need more volume. But for the girl/guy ratio, other things in perspective, I was pleasently suprised. Congrats to Curtis of Northeast for winning solo competion. Wonderful voice, and selection!

Homewood: Where ever do I begin. First of all, congrats to the wonderful young lady who sang "Alabaster Box" in Solo finals, wonderful voice, the hair on my neck stood up. The costumes were simply WONDERFUL. Purple is one of my favorite colors, and it looked wonderful agaist the white suits the guys wore. I absolutely LOVE, Love LOVED the opener. "If I can't love Her" one of my favorites from when I was a child! (i seem like i'm ancient or somethng) was beautiful. Something that I noticed, that you all should be commended for: Guy Sound. It was wonderful. If there were a caption for it, I'm sure you all would have won that caption. The guy's feature was amazing. Chris, I must compliment you. You are an amazing performer. Lindsey and I could not take our eyes off of you during the show! The set was very nice, and very calm compared to last year. I was delighted that there was no throbing sensation concerning my head after watching.

Petal Girls: Wonderful Work! As someone said in a previous post, Best girl's group i've seen in a while. I truly enjoyed watching you all.

Albertville: You all definitely get the award for originality. Regegade, which i've seen done by midwest groups more recently (a southern group did it, but i don't remember who) was very amazing. You all definitely transferred emotion during the opener. "Deperado" was delightful. You all have such wonderful vocals, I felt sometimes as if i were listening to a concert choir.

Petal Mixed: WONDERFUL SHOW. Simply amazing. You all looked amazing, and very classy. The show was refreshing. I had a fit, when you all began "On Broadway". I LOVED IT! That's one of my favorite songs, and that arrangement was delightful. Great job!

South Jones: I was shocked. I did'nt think it got any better that last year's show. Well, I thought wrong. Amazing. Props to the soloist on the ballad. Wonderful job! I enjoyed the show, and I never got bored. Thrilled. Might I say a "Few" groups better watch out!!

I enjoyed all the Final performances. Lindsey and I could not put our hands on what was wierd to us about being there, and i was the fact that we had never been to a comp and just watched... lol...

congrats to everyone! and break lots of legs through the remainder of the season!

So…I just got home a little while ago, and I thought that I’d say a few things while they’re still fresh on my mind.

Legacy- Y'all rock so much. You really don't understand how much y'all have improved this year, and guess what? Y'all ARE just as good as everyone else...even though y'all don't have members in both Network and Legacy like other groups who beat you.

Picayune- Honestly I thought there was no way y'all were even going to be good this year with all of the director shifting and what not- BUT y'all most definitely proved me wrong. The show was really awesome...keep it up!

Jones on Stage- I really didn't know what to expect at first, but y'all have plenty of talented people in y'all's group, and y'all were awesome tonight, especially the girl who sang that "Blessed" song.

WEST JONES!- Okay...I'm going to have to admit here that we weren't actually able to see y'all perform because we had to be getting ready and stuff...but I heard the show was awesome. I'm really excited about seeing it though..haha...and just remember: It's REALLY just the opinions of 5 judges; just because someone's a judge doesn't mean they're right.

Petal Girls- WOW...Probably the best girl's group I've seen in a long time. Congratulations!

Albertville- What can I say? Y'all's show is WAY out there- but it's WAY good too, so I guess that's okay. Y'all killed everyone on the energy level tonight. I must admit I was actually kind of scared in y’all show at a few points. Caleb was awesome. Oh, and my favorite part of the show is in the opener when y'all are like "running" and when y'all's feet hit the floor there's a big drum thing- I guess y'all know what I'm talking about. OH, and Rachel is my favorite...and Ms. Tidmore.

Petal- YAAAAY!!! Y'all kept my promise! I knew y’all would! ;) Personally, I thought y'all were great both times (in prelims and finals). I really like the show a lot this year, and Kelsey is my favorite ever! And I'm also in love with y'all's choreography.

Joy L.- GET IT! You are such an inspiration to everyone in our choir, and you completely TORE IT UP tonight! I love you!

.....

SOUTH JONES- All I'm going to say is that Clinton better be ready at Petal, y'all are amazing.

.....

Cody and Leeann- Y'all are the two most fun people ever, and I would like to thank y'all for being such AWESOME hosts today. I know everyone from Homewood appreciated it so much, and Cody- you'd better give me that stretchy jacket thing... " border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />

Although the results weren't the best in the world ;) , I have to say, I am very impressed with how the competition was kept on time, and everything ran 100% smoothly. We've been doing South Central for a while and every year seems to get drawn out longer and longer. We would always perform at about 1 in the morning seemed like...

But I am very impressed, and whether it felt like it or not, you ran a great Invitational. I didn't see anyone out of the top 5 (except NE Jones) due to me being a stage crew guy now, but congratulations are still in order for everyone else. Overall, good competition.
