well we are winners cause when you have the audience in the palm of you hand and get the biggest standing ovation from the whole audience that tells you someting

Do you mean audience in general, or your middle school show choir, girls group, and parents.. because if you are talking about the people associated with your school, then yes, you did have the biggest standing ovation. otherwise, you are highly mistaken. Trust me, I was in the audience.

Ok... just thought i'ld say that it's not always a penalty to take longer than the alotted time... A lot of comps don't have time limits... but you're right... if you go over your time limit, it is always a penalty.

P.S.... that has happened to Aville before... :-(..... I guess thats what they get for having the best set i've ever seen...

Yeah their set was freakin great... they may have went overtime but at least their set was perfect everyone still loves them, even if they went a little overtime. Word of advice Aville.... RUN ON AND OFF lol. It's a bummer that they ran over the time limit " border="0" alt="ermm.gif" />

About the time thing...I was in the sound booth so I don't know anything about it, but I do know that everybody has the same time limit so if they went over, they went over and it is a penalty anywhere you go. A shame to lose that way, but rules are rules.

Congrats to the Voices of Central for making the trip to the South Jones Invite!! You did a great job for your first comp.

As for funding... it is true... No Funding from the school system!! I don't know the numbers this year, but it is normally around $1400 to be in Company..(Don't quote me on that!) and it is fundraised or payed by the kids and parents. We do all kinds of stuff, but one major fundraiser is the program book. Not the one at the comp, but one just like a football program. You sell ads for it, so much for full page, half page, quarter page and business card ad. You go to your local printing company and get a price per page. Around here it is about $32 per page. So if you sell a full page ad for $125.00, subtract $32 from it and you get $93 clear profit for the student that sold the ad! Sell 10 pages of ads and you make around $930!! All profits go to each students account. I paid for my daughters last 2 years of Company with ads... easy money! You ought to check it out!! Put pics of the group, directors and such in it and sell ads!!!

About the time thing...I was in the sound booth so I don't know anything about it, but I do know that everybody has the same time limit so if they went over, they went over and it is a penalty anywhere you go. A shame to lose that way, but rules are rules.

I hope to see all soon!!

My group is in small mix and what happens....because groups have been doing it for years....they may have more than twenty in a group but they rotate on and off stage to keep it at twenty. I cut my limit off at twenty every year for the reason of I think a kid rather be in show choir and perform a full year than being told a few weeks before competition that they can't perform one or two numbers. It save alot of misery. My show choir in high school pulled the whole switch thing one year and alot of parents were mad about it, including mine even though I never got pulled. So, maybe that is something your director and group might like to think about in the future if you would rather compete in a small division.

thanks for thinkin about your kids Ms.Knight... we love ya for that, and i agree. i love show choir too much to only be able to perform two or three numbers, but i guess it's just up to the director. i would hate to be rotated out, i guess i got lucky and we don't have to

I will have my son post it soon and no you were warming up when we were on.We watched yall from the cafeteria and you all rocked.Deserving winners. We just should have been in the small mixed group since we had 6 less performers than the grouip that won that division..

Ok... Big question. Rumor has it that during the prelims Albertville and Petal had the same exact score the only reson Petal won is because Albertville ran over time thirty-three seconds... does anyone know what really happened with that??!!? if so that freakin sucks becuse Albertville deserved that first place title... anyway i am not going to get into that...

Divisions are a tricky topic. You have to draw the line somewhere. There are show choirs that have over 50 members. I've always liked a split at about 32-36 members. The AA (over 32) versus A (32 and under) structure. When you start splitting it up to much, I think alot is lost. The only way to remedy that is to get more singers. It's just one of the growing pangs. It's tough to just walk on the scene and win a competition... and now you guys have something to shoot for.

You should upload your groups dvd to youtube.com so we can see you all! We at Pascagoula didn't get to see your group perform, if I'm not mistaken.

We were glad to be invited and everyone there treated us sooooo well.show choir is just beginning to take off here, but will never catch athletics.
Our kids worked soooo hard all year and sang their butts off at competition. It was great hearing everyone talking about "those Texas kids" after their performance.I think we were the best group there for those with less than 25 performers. The winning team in Small Mixed division had 29, we have 23, yet we get thrown to the wolves in Middle Mixed Division against schools with 35+.What gives???
Anyway, it was a great opportunity for our kids to compete (for the 1st time) in such a big competition.Just wish they could have gotten recognized for being the best small mixed group(as the scores would have shown).Would have made a much easier 10 hour drive home with a trophy!Next year we will be bigger, stronger, and bring a set with us!.....Thank You Mississippi for being such WONDERFUL hosts
