1st, I wanted to congradulate all the choirs. Norwell...props to you guys. I'm not even gonna lie, when my friends and I were sitting down making predictions for finals.....and I said you guys were going to make it......I don't know why...but I had hunch somehow you would be in there-so props to competing with some of the much larger choirs....

2nd, Findlay....I thought you guys were great. Great vocals, as always. And I was very surprised at how clean you guys were. You really did perform well, I think other groups were just having "Their Day". You know the one where it doesn't matter how well you do, somebody is just going to place higher than you, well, I have faith that you guys are gonna dominating some aspects of competitions.
Eisenhower....I thought you guys needed to sing more. People started stepping up their vocals in finals. You have the vocals, but they weren't there. It was one of the shows where I knew you could sing...but you didn't get that little extra "umph" across.
Hurricane....I thought you guys were going to take best vocals going into finals. You guys have really become a show choir. I remember the first time I saw you guys and the most dancing you did was a box step-but you had possibly the best vocals ever. You guys have now earned my respect as one of the more dangerous show choirs to compete against. Congrats on a great show and keep pressing on, you guys are going to tear it up. And props to to solo man.
Marysville.....You have a very fun show. At least it looks that way. And the judges seem to like it. I was looking at the judges during finals and I noticed that when you guys performed in finals, they all started to come alive. I wasn't sure if you were going to step it up in finals. I was totally stoked when I saw that you guys were stepping it up. I think other people fixed parts of their shows, but you guys did that, plus some more. Pretty much what I expected. As of now, you have my vote as the top Ohio group....for now LoL. Everything can change in the matter of a single competiton...but keep it up!
Ashley..I believe that is your name....I wanted the audience to just be silent at the end of your solo where youdid your little "run" thing. I think I might be in love with you. You were simply amazing and totally deserving of your award! Keep it up!
Clinton.....Ahhhh Clinton. You guys were awesome. I've heard and seen your tapes before. And yea, they were awesome...but it was even better to get to see you live. You may have not swept this comp, but I have a feeling that you will the next. You guys bring it. I would love to know how you get so clean. I seriously sat there and tried to find someone "fuddling" through at least one move...but no. You guys are ridiculous. Okay...Freebird? Are you kidding me? That was amazing. I never thought anyone would be able to pull off a song like that. And your combo...mewwwwwwwwww! Everyone was sick. I don't think I have or will ever here a combo player be able to shred a guitar solo like that. And that bass player was rockin....did I see a six-string? Anyways, you guys were awesome. You seem like you might be the nicest people in the country. Congrats on another win and good luck in your next comp!
Oh, and male solo's....you guys were awesome, all of you, and the ladies too!

It was an awesome comp. Purple Pizazz...You got my vote for the best move of the day. Somthing with the girls behind the fellas with their "hearts beating". I loved it! Not complicated....but I thought it was innovative.

Does anyone know who got penalized for time? Or if anyone was penalized for time and how much? I know Clinton went over, but I thought there were a few more who might have also.

Every choir deserves to have a standing ovation. Just because YOU put in coutless hours of rehearsal, volunteer time, etc.. Doesn't mean that they don't. Regardless if you liked their show. you should do that. Those 20 choirs that performed (Single-Gender, MS, Large and Small Mixed) deserve a little more than a simple applause.

Then you weren't sitting with the majority of the parents. If there is one thing that the Red Hot program is known for it is courtesy to other programs. If you want to make a statement slamming our show that is one thing but to take a personal swipe at parents who put in many hours of volunteer work to keep our kids going is neither appreciated nor needed. I for one applaud everyone who gets out on the stage and performs. I will not, however, give just any group a standing ovation. Those are earned and the ones who earned them got them.

the thing is, i WAS sitting with the majority and i know what i saw...and also, every person and parent in EVERY choir puts in the same long and hard hours and deserves just as much respect and support as the powerhouses

by the way...i looked, rian lol i really did

Findlay- To me, you guys were the best group of the night. Your day performance was very dry but you kicked it into gear for finals and blew everyone away vocally. Your choreography was cleaner than any year I have ever seen you. The tap break should have put you in 3rd place alone. You have a level of professionalism that I have yet to see anyone else meet. Better diction in the 2nd song would probably help boost the vocal scores. Beautiful ballad.

I loved their show . I'm an avid Findlay Fan. For awhile I thought I was alone out on that limb. ;)

i agree MvilleSwinger4, the attache parents were amazingly nice and polite...and special thanks to fairfield as well for hosting such a terrific competition...thanks again...by the way, just a side question, does anyone know the results from the crystal classic last year?

Um Brett. Why didn't YOU come find me?!?! Huh?!? Bum!

QUOTE(OHshow choirFan @ Mar 4 2007, 02:24 PM)
While in a way I tend to agree with you, I wasn't really sitting near the Hurricane fans, but I do know that they tend to scream extremely loud for their own group...but I don't think you can go a day without being able to notice something like that, and I'm glad that parents can be so into their own group, it's really encouraging. However, if parents are NOT cheering for other groups and speaking ill the entire time, then shame on them.

While I was in line waiting for food, I actually heard from a member of a different choir that DID make finals that they hoped ANOTHER finals group would "die on the way here."

Now maybe it's just me, but I try not to go against an entire group because of comments that I hear from a few of their people. While I was disappointed to hear such a thing from a choir member, I'm not about to just start judging their entire choir. And, in light of recent events (6 Bluffton University baseball players killed in a coach bus crash, not to mention the deaths of the three show choir members from Enterprise), I think that we should all take the time at competitions to really make sure our intentions are that everyone should do their best and make sure we cheer for everyone.

It was 4 baseball players and the bus driver (and his wife)

This was very interesting competition. I was there almost the entire day. It was a great competition, with a great atmosphere. During the daytime, I sat pretty close to the stage, and during the finals, I sat back in the blechers. It was amazing how different of an experience both seating locations offered. During the day, from sitting close. This is how I thought it would've went in order
Findlay
Marysville
Clinton
Hurricane
Eisenhower
Franklin Central

Clinton was strategy of placing the best singers right in front of the microphones was very present when you sat close. Cause thats all you could hear, the only problem with that strategy was that the mics were not balanced. Vocally, they were nothing amazing, choreographically they were very sloppy. I was also a little disturbed by their nearly forty minute performance time from getting on to off stage. From last year to this year, Marysville has improved leaps and bounds. They were great last year, but this year they had every single detail worked out. They sounded PHENOMENAL especially on Home. They energy in their dancing and performing was just electrifying. I was very impressed, especially after not being a fan of your show last year. The real suprise to me though was Findlay. They were spectacular. I had never seen Findlay before, but this was a wonderful first encounter. Their vocals were top notched, their dance was great. Their overall performance was very classic and not flashy like other groups at this competition, but they did not need any of that to stand out. Their tap number was the best 42nd street I've seen a group do, and is the best tap number I have seen. I have never seen a group be completely together when tapping, and Findlay was. It was great.

Now night time, sitting from the back, it presented a very different perspective. This is how I saw it turning out, i predicted a upset:
Marysville
Clinton
Hurricane
Eisenhower
Findlay
Norwell

I knew Marysville had best vocals. They were unmatchable by any group. Each song had an appropiate style, and was not the same for every song. They mantained their vocals flawlessly the entire show. They were hugely better than Clinton. Marysville choreo was great, but not incredible, but I thought their vocal score would make up for their small lacking in choreo. Clinton was great, but not amazing. Their girls were nonexistent, this was reassured during their girls number, which was dredful. Their opener was the only number that afterward I was like, that was spectacular. Their vocals gradually decreased throughout the show, and by their closer, it was almost like watching a group, that should've been in finals. I LOVE CLINTON and I was thoroughly disappointed by their performance here. I was also unimpressed by their extended time period of stage time.. the night show was another 38 minute show. Clinton was definately given the red carpet treatment at this competition and they definately rode their name. Hurricane, by the scoresheet was great, but really offered no actual entertainment. I really don't like their style of 4 people actually dancing on the floor and the rest doing incredibly easier choreo. Their vocals are great, but the same style for every song, even when the style doesn't come close to fitting the song. Eisenhower was great, vocals were not nearly at the level of the other group, choreo was great, just an overall good show. Findlay was vocally disappointing during the night, I think it might've been because I was sitting and the back, but words were not understandable and sound produced was small. Choreographically it was still phenomenal, and I still loved the tap. Norwell... i don't know... they were great for a small group, but the differences between a small group and a large group make it incredibly hard to compare the two. The energy and the sound coming from the stage is so much smaller than the large groups, that the two are nearly impossibly to compare.

those are my thoughts, take them as they are, and don't get mad because I didn't think clinton was god at this competition

I got to prelims while Norwell was performing, but I saw everyone that performed after them. My rankings going into day awards based on the groups I saw were

GC-Clinton
2nd- Marysville
3rd- Findlay
4th- Hurricane
5th-Eisenhower
6th- Franklin Central
7th- Piqua
8th- Beavercreek
9th- Zionsville
10th- Middletown

Vocals- Clinton or Marysville
Choreo- Clinton
Band- Clinton, Marysville, or Findlay

Just a note- although, like I said, I missed Norwell during the day round I did see them during finals and they were very deserving of their spot.

edit- spelling

I agree with your Placements though i'd have had (and you said you didn't see them) Norwell in 8th behind Piqua... 6 7 and 8 were (Norwell FC and Piqua) were all shows deserving of finals But i thought FC an Piqua had the better shows in Prelims... FC moreso than piqua... Overall An amazing competition to see!!!

even with the amazing day, i did have a problem...i sat where hurricane was sitting the entire day and i was honestly shocked and amazed at the fact that almost NOBODY up in that section stood or even applauded for anyone but their own group and spoke nothing but ill of EVERY group that got on stage but their own...it's very disrespectful and immature and it makes our great state look very bad the way it's represented...good performances in pre-lims and finals though

I dont think that he/she was taking a personal swipe, they just were dissapointed that you all werent responding like other show choirs, i understand, we always stand and applaud because no matter how good or how bad, each member always gives there best, and puts in long and hard hours into doing what they love... every show choir deserves a standing ovation... but i know where your coming from too!

Okay, I guess I'm a little confused on these ratings...
This is how this competition went overall.
GC: Clinton
1RU: Marysville
2RU: Eisenhower
3RU: Hurrincane
4RU: Findlay
5RU: Norwell

This is how I personally from watching the shows all day thought it was going to end up.

GC: Clinton, mostly becasue of their reputation I was a little underwhelmed by their performance, I dont consider placing your best singers right infront of the mics singing as an entire choir, and I don't consider an electic guitar solo in each song (which sometimes didn't make sence) and dancing for 10-12 seconds choreography. I don't think that Clinton lived up to there title, and didn't really reach out to the heart and soul of show choir.

1RU: Findlay, I think this show was EXTREMELY underrated, it's a great show overall. I know some may no tlike tapping, but for tapping that was extremly clean. Their ballad was amazing and overall I think they really steped it up and gave it their all. Findlay had an enjoyable show and had some vocal troubles in the prelims as well, but they fixed them.

2RU: Marysville, they were great, I throughly enjoyed their show, but to me Eisenhower and Marysville lacked in originality, they kind of had the same style. They had awesome vocals and grats the 1RU that they did achive.

3RU: Eisenhower, again, they were kind of like Marysville so I thought that they both proformed well and I enjoyed their shows, but they all kind of blended together. Don't get me wrong Eisenhower/Marysville fans and show choir teams both are amazing but I just don't think that they had the uniqueness that the others had.

4RU: Hurricane, vocals were really nice, and the lifts went well as well. I think that they did what they could but the four listed above did a bit better. They were great overall and I think that they were just as good as the others, I personally, just didn't like their show as well.

5RU: Norwell, I think that it is awesome that a small school made it to finals. They did great but had a few slips. I'm really happy that they made it to finals and I'm happy that they gave it their all out there. They had a great show and I really enjoyed it. YAY Norwell!

That is how I thought it should have played out.
