Interestingly enough, on Galapagos the weaker show choirs are traditionally eaten by the stronger. Talk about motivation to get your closer cleaned!!

hahahahahahaha.
oh my gosh, best post everr.

Don't know about Guam or Greenland but I've heard that the choirs in the Galapagos Islands are evolving quite nicely.....

I have been to 5 competitions in the midwest over the last 2 years.

What competitions and what years?

Dang people get offended really easy. I was just stating that I believe the Midwest to have more debth than Cali, Didnt realize that was such a personal subject wow. I would defend my post, but it would be completely pointless and just stir up more meaningless debate.

I agree we need to move on and drop this now, the debate is pointless I am sorry for contributing to it in any way.

hahah yeah i definitly know it's more common for california groups to use hairpieces than for the midwest...i was just pointing out that our hair, is not laid back, by anymeans...and by the way the hour, i didn't mean the hour or two ahead of time curling it, i just meant the pinning it up, all of our hair is pinned up just with bobby pins

I guess that I used "laid back" in lack of a better word. I guess that I sorta started thinking of how Midwest is all big and curly, while California hair is ... I cant think of a better word.

I agree with Ana.

While California has some truely impressive groups this year, they have nothing on the Debth that the Midwest has. I'de like to put Burroughs up against some other choirs out here... like Ankeny.

yeah, that happened last year at FAME Orlando, and Burroughs won.
granted, that was one competition, but the fact that they did win deserves some merit.

but anyways, i do agree that its stupid to argue over who is better.

Cali is good for its own reasons.
The Midwest is good for its own reasons.
One doesn't have to be better than the other.

only because getting my ridiculous amount of hair into our style this year takes an hour at least...it's not laid back!!! hahaha. at least not for us, we never use hairpieces. this is just my funny rant to make sure you notice the effort our hair took this year, you probably didn't notice, but it's actually kinda complicated.

That's about how long it takes ALL of our girls to do their hair for a performance. lol
I guess it's more....standard for the midwest to have big hair. Thats the best way I can put it. I'm just use to big hair more.
By the way, Davenport West is the only show choir I've ever seen use fake hair. And they made quite a funny point about it in their show

i am a little disappointed to see all the arguing and pitting this state against that, i believe the whole point of travelling to different regions to compete is to see all the different styles and appreciate what everyone does in their own unique take on show choir.
and can everyone just agree to STOP trying to claim who the "best" show choir in the nation is, you can't go by points, because most competitions have different scoresheets and judges, and a competition where the total points are 200 losing by five is still about the same as losing by ten if that scoresheet was out of 400, so saying so that one win is more decisive than another doesn't work, every competition has different judges too, and every choir is different on any given day, plus i know we as well as most other choirs change ridiculously over the course of the year, compare attache's performance at sullivan to that at fame, or ours at fame to ours at diamond bar, i swear we're different choirs...so is that enough variables for you???
the only fact: our country has amazing choirs everywhere that are lucky to share their art with each other, and untill everyone is at one competition at the same time, they can't be compared, and even then the winner would only be the best on that specific day at that specific competition =)

on a funnier note...hahaha. can i see the groups from the galapagos? they've probably evolved to a whole bunch of different styles of show choir, it would be fantastic! haha

I like groups like John Burroughs, Burbank, and Hart. However, I think that appearance is a little laid back. (Hair mostly. I'm used to midwest big hair).

I've heard some really good things about the show choirs in Guam, Greenland, and the Galapagos Islands. I think the bigger debate would be if schools from ANY state could stack up against THOSE groups.

Perhaps you meant the BURBANK CHOIR PROGRAMS being the pride of the state. Powerhouse isn't the only great choir at Burroughs AND Burroughs isn't the only high school in the city of Burbank with an incredible program. Burbank High School's program under Brett Carroll is unquestionably equally as good. In fact, you can make a great case that the city of Burbank has the best vocal program in the nation among high schools. But being the pride of the state is a good start.....

I know you'd like to put this to bed, but just before you do, perhaps you should actually read again what was originally written.

1. At Burroughs, there are 4 other competing show choirs besides Powerhouse (whose set this year is an absolute feast for the eyes and ears). They also have advanced men and women's along with intermediate mixed and women's. All of them consistantly place 1st or 2nd in their divisions (the most recent being their advanced women in Chicago).

It would be a bit insulting to single out one choir from Burroughs to be the "pride of the state". The entire program is outstanding.

2. The city of Burbank, population about 100,000, not only has Burroughs high school, but also has Burbank high school, whose vocal program also has 5 competing show choirs who are equally as good as Burroughs. I don't think either school (or the parents) would argue about that. Like Burroughs, all 5 Burbank High choirs place 1st or 2nd (trading places only with Burroughs).

So choosing one school over the other to be the "pride of California" when they have consistantly been equals over the past 5 years would be insulting to one or the other.

It was the vocal PROGRAMS from ONE city for whom I was making the case of possibly being the best.

Please read this one carefully and then I would love to hear about other programs as varied and successful. I know that a couple years ago, there weren't any mens choirs that competed with Burroughs' and Burbank's in Chicago and New York. Are there any men's show choirs other than in California? (That's not a challenge, it's a question).

I don't know how this ever became Cali vs the midwest but I apologize if what I originally wrote got twisted because of my lack of clarity.....

Congratulations! This forum has now come down to: Nannu nannu, We're better than you, and you don't know that, cause you ain't got all the fact. (With a nice little tune going on in my head.)

Fact: I have heard of many Cali groups.
Fact: I have heard of many Midwestern groups.
Fact: Both are great...can we leave it at that?

LOL. You are absolutely right BroadwayBound. Didn't we learn anything from Tupac And Biggie lol. Both Regions have amazing talent and great groups. Theres no need to argue about where the best is because in honesty none of us actually know, it's just so incredibly subjective. We should also look at the big picture not just midwest and west but we are ALL from the U.S.A. and I think we can all agree the best show choirs in the world reside in the U.S.A.!

If you guys really want to discuss this further it really should be done in a new topic. Out of respect for the groups at Fame Chicago and also for the people who just want to read about the competition lets keep this about Fame Chicago!

Thanks in advance for your cooperation everyone!
