I definitely don't agree with this post.
That's like saying Burroughs or Clinton should've lost points for having nice backdrops that probably cost a good bit of money, because other groups didn't have them.
If a group chooses to spend their money on "professional" musicians (by your definition) instead of expensive backdrops and sets, that's their prerogative.
However, I do think that any group with more than one or two "non-student" musicians should be disqualified from the "Best Band" caption, as well as any sectional caption where the section is not comprised solely of student-musicians.
yes if you don't have an all student band then you are automacially "disqualified" for the best band... and burroughs didn't recieve that...
If a competition gives a score for the band, then the band should be all students, plus the director. Burroughs had the highest band scores. I would wager that none of the other choirs had ringers in the band.

I dont recall winning best combo.......
I think that went to attache......did it not?
Don't most of the California Choirs hire professionals for the band? I don't know of any in the Midwest who do. Hiring professionals is ridiculous. Any choir that hires professionals should not be considered the Best High School show choir. Why not hire A-Rod to play for a high school team? I know that Burroughs had a professional band, and if you look at the score sheet, the instrumental category counted for about 10%. Burroughs got very good scores for their band, not surprisingly. Shouldn't they have gotten zero for this category? If so, they would have finished fourth.

well as Jim Carrey quoted in Bruce Almighty, "That's the way the cookie crumbles."
gah, I love that quote... one of my favorite comedies of all time... Jim Carrey is sooo funny... I was kinda surprised that he didn't make a surprise appearence in the 2nd movie... ;)

basically, get over it
its done with
Powerhouse won.
Stop trying to justify that they shouldn't have won. I thought we were done arguing about it.

I count anyone who is not a current student at the school as a professional. All band members should be current students, other than 1 director or accompanist on keyboard.
oh! and our horn players are students, and our percussionist is a former student from another school.

um no they arn't perfessionals, they are former jbhs students the guitar player is still in high school, the 2nd guitarist is a former student, our drummer is a former student, we have an adult who plays the keyboards as well as many other high school show choirs have, and i also play keyboards, and none of us are "professional" so in that case to answer your question, we don't hire professionals to be in our band.
hope that helps.
