I agree…..it IS always sad to see groups bashing each other, but it happens in these forums as our cherubs vent the frustrations of a long day that might not have gone their way. What I feel is even worse about though…. Was the really sad demonstration of Edgewoods overall sportsmanship at St. C’s! As for SOME of the Garfild Hts. responses…all of our groups involved at these comps know just how competitive Edgewood/Garfield were through the entire season but as a spectator overhearing students smack talking out loud in the halls (Edgewood) was REALLY sad. Now SOME of the groups who actually DID earn the right to be there and weren’t….. due to the lack of professional adjudicators, you know who you are…PLEASE don’t let the continual rantings and ravings of a school like Edgewood shatter YOUR professionalism…BRAVO for your outstanding performances. Humility is a huge part of a groups core and SOME choirs need to practice THAT for their season next year.

St.C……your kids, your parents, your program was great, thanks for a wonderful day! Please know that the comments from these kids are directly towards the panel they performed for, hope to see you next year !!!

I've been sitting back watching this debate. I have to say that every group talks smack...it's a comp. I have heard rude things from EVERY group about others. It's show choir.
I also stand by my prior thoughts. The judges were all professional. I think it's funny you think it's shameful to talk smack on other schools, but then bash Edgewood and even backhandely bash the choirs that made it to finals that "didn't deserve " to be there. I don't know what choir your from , as it's unlisted, but you need to watch what you say too. EVERY bigger choir there was talking smack on the others. I heard some pretty nasty things from all of them.
I hope you had fun at this comp. I did.

It's always sad to see people bash other groups. It happened before and during I was in show choir, and has continued til this day. I'm going to have to say I am very disappointed in SOME of Garfield Heights repsonses. Now before you bash me, read carefully for what I say next. I have been to 2 competions this season to support my alumni school. (not this one I will add). The first one, Edgewood placed above you, and the second after. It has been a back and forth, but respectible race to the top between both schools. The support that Edgewood has given by standing to acknowlede a job well done, was equally given by you all. I just thought of you guys as great kids with a lot of heart. Not once has Edgewood taken away your glory of beating them, so why do it to them now? If I am wrong, please show me evidence disproving me. I still love you all anyway!! Especially the blonde boy in the front during the nerd song! I already told him that I'm a fan during the Grove City competition. He's too funny!

To all other groups:

Judging doesn't always go our way, as many have said before me. We must learn that people like different things! One person's favorite color might be red, and another green...the same goes for different tastes in show choir. You win some, you lose some, but always strive to be better. Never dwell on what you think is unfair! Congrats to all teams placing in the finals, your hard work paid off. To those who didn't place, I'm sorry that it turned out that way, and I'm sure some of your shows were still spectacular! Just remember that you can't change what has been done by sitting here bashing others that got what you believed you yourselves deserved. I know none of what I say will change your minds on how you look at this competition, but I atleast hope that it brought awareness about how other groups may feel when they read how their hard work they've put in all year wasn't TRUELY good enough to amount to YOUR standards. Thank you for your time, and good luck to those who still have competitions this season.

Now to my own personal school:
Edgewood, I'm proud of what you have accomplished this season. You always bring a smile to my face when watching how you have grown from the beginning of the season til now. You have respected other schools, even when not returned. You have brought energy and dedication to every competition. Although you're season is now over, I'm looking forward to dinner theater! I love you guys!

Umm I'm soory kid. You must of not seen colerain or beavercreek. I'm not trying to be rude but they should of slaughtered Edgewood. No offense Beavercreek has amazing vocals. and colerain is up there too. This wasn't a real compititon . . So whoever goes here next I wish u the best of lukc because you'd be stupid to go to this comp. with these judges, they obviously don't know what a real group show sound or look like.

Perhaps you should read over what you type before you post it..
You say you are not trying to be rude, but then you go on to say this was not a real competition. Your thoughts probably could not have been expressed in a ruder way. While the results were shocking, it is ridiculous and childish to come on here and bash the competition, and essentially all choirs who placed. Please show some class.

The judges definitely got the finals placings right, regardless of daytime results.
Teays Valley deserved to win this competition no matter who was in finals. They have great vocals, clean choreography, and their show is fun to watch. (They also handle themselves with a lot of class from what I saw.) I felt this was the best show at the competition, even considering those who didn't make finals.
Edgewood's show is very entertaining, and they definitely deserved to place as high as they did. They seem like such a friendly group, too! The guy leading the cheers and stuff during the award ceremony is verrrry funny!
East- Your show is so fun!! I wish I could have seen it again in finals.. You were so close!
Colerain- I loved your show, especially your ballad. You were one of my favorites! Your show is so different and your energy was great yesterday. I also love your second outfits!

Also, regardless of how you feel about the judging, everyone must admit this was a well-run competition. Everything was right on time, and there were few, if any, problems.

yes bad judging does happen...but if you go to a comp. you have to expect this to happen...if you aren't willing to accept what the judges choose, no matter how "crazy, blind, ect" they are..don't compete.

We've ALL felt screwed before...and trust me we went to a competition very much like this one while I was in high school where the judges were all over the place...not going to say a location..but it just happens. Did it suck really bad for a long time? yes. did we all get over it? for the most part.

no, this is the guy that had you guys in front by like 20 points over teays valley. not saying that you didnt deserve that, but by 20 points? most judges had that gap A LOT closer. then the rest of his scores were completely off. i think that he had us in 9th place.

9th? That's crazy. The guy must be out of his mind. I thought it was wild you guys were in 6th going into finals. Eh whatever... I need to stop dwelling over this weekend. Judges aren't people anyways, " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

so yeah.. pretty disappointing competition.. my very last one... ever. oh well, i guess im used to getting the shaft this year. maybe im blinded cuz we were really good the past two years, but i think we're still pretty decent... a lot of things should be better, but we definitely didnt deserve to be scored so low... i guess one judge did it? oh well.. im looking forward to competing one last time at cedar point. even tho it wasnt the best year for Esprit, i still enjoyed entertaining and being entertained the past four years.. im gonna miss it!!

Some years are better than others in any activity - and this was not an easy year for ESPRIT...but I really hope everyone can band together and keep this tradition alive at Southwestern! I am proud of every one of ESPRIT's members this year and hope everyone will give it another year to get back on top! Good luck and lots of love to our graduating seniors - Brittany, Amanda, Richey, and David! Eric - son, I am still your biggest fan! Congratulations on your Outstanding Soloist awards!!!

To all the St. C kids and parents....What a great day we had. Everyone was very friendly!!!

The judgeing did seem off in some respects. Alot of kids, parents and directors (from groups who won) think the same. So they can't be all off base. Anyway, it's what you take from the experience and use to your advantage that counts.

Poca...You guys are awesome!! I love all the kids and parents can't wait to see you guys again next year.

Garfield...What can I say...you guys AMAZE me! Every time we think it's the best you give better. Sad that it's the last but really looking forward to the break. Sad to see the seniors leave but wish them luck in the next stage of live.

Looking forward to next season. Let's hope it's a great one for all!!!!

im mostly refering to the judges not being qualified are really only talking about that one judge that had completely different from the other judges. he left no comments on the score sheets and said nothing on the tapes. if he was to take off a lot of points in one area and even more in another (like he did with a few groups), he should atleast tell us why (like i said earlier). this guy had NO musical education from wut i understood from his bio, no vocal experience (unless i read his bio wrong), and he has a little choreography in him (being in theatre production) and some combo judging (being in some combo that probably no ones ever heard of until they read his bio). all-in-all, this one judge should not have been judging, with no vocal experience, little choreography, and some combo. this is wut i think anyway.

Everyone: have a great rest of your season, and if you're finished, congratulations. Enjoy the fruit of your labor, seeing how much you've improved and how great your show was. Everyone deserves it.

People, really now. I don't think that anyone has a right to complain. The judges were all extremely qulified. I'm sorry if things didn't turn out your way, but that's show choir. I remember being unhappy quite a few times because we lost our shot at finals. You take it, learn from it, then leave it. After you graduate, you look back on the drama and laugh about it.

Please knock off ripping on the final's choirs, and saying they didn't deserve their spots. They all put a ton of work into their shows just as you have. I watched them all and all of them were great with vocals and choreography. And please stop being disrespectful towards them.

BTW Cabell: I loved your show songs...Hungrey Like a Wolf is a great closer!
Edgewood, I loved your show this year. The humer is always great!

Yesterday was the most fun i've had all season. Poca you were a great group to host and i'm so happy for how well you did. Cabell Midland you guys did awesome yesterday, as well as all the other groups competing.

I am a little disappointed in all the negative feedback this competition is receiving. After all the long hours, hard work, and dedication put into the Showcase of Sound by all the St. C Singer Members and Parents it is really frustrating to hear that this competition was a "JOKE" and " NOT A REAL COMPETITION". I think it is unfair to the St. C Singers to say that and WAY unfair to all the finalist to say that. We were really looking forward to Saturday and to say this competition was a "JOKE" because of the results is very, very disappointing. Every single choir that has ever been to a competition has been unhappy with their placing and the overall results, thats show choir. I say "any given saturday". I wish people would consider and respect the fact that this competition meant a lot to a lot of people.

Congrats to all the choirs especially the finalist you all had shows deserving of the awards you received.
Thanks to everyone who said this was their best competition of the year.

No one is trying to say anything bad about St. C as a show choir or as people. Every person that I encountered there was very nice. I'm thinking that when people call this competition a joke, they are talking about the judging.

Preliminary Placing

1st Edgewood
2nd Teays valley
3rd Wapakoneta
4th Cabell Midland
5th Poca
6th Garfield Heights

these placing going in to finals were the biggest joke I have ever seen at a show choir comp ever...the judges were extremely unqualified and many groups were judged extremely unfairly Beavercreek and Colerain were robbed and BC should have place in the top 3.
Finals Placing

5th Runner Up- Poca
4th Runner Up- Cabell Midland
3rd Runner Up-Wapakenita
2nd Runner Up-Garfield Heights
1st Runner Up- Edgewood
GC-Teays Valley

As for finals the night judge added evened out the scores as much as he could but these placing were still a little wacky....to all choirs competing here don’t even worry about it this wasn’t a real competition and the placing were not fair or realistic and they basically mean nothing

-Beavercreek, I loved your show your vocals are top notch and you know what you deserved
-Colerain, your show is entertaining and your vocals are crisp... I know that you were extremely upset about your placing but just laugh it off...this comp was funny and it made me chuckle
-Garfield, your show in finals was crazy and the energy was trough the roof...you guys dance like none other and you should have won best choreography in your class for sure…I also liked the noises you made during you opener dance break your group really pulls it off
-Cabell midland, your show was very entertaining and your outfits was gorgeous.... you hair pieces and costumes are crazy up close but they look so good on stage

MY Finals Placing

5th Runner Up- Edgewood/Poca
4th Runner Up- Colerain
3rd Runner Up-Cabell Midland
2nd Runner Up-Beavercreek
1st Runner Up- Teays Valley
GC-Garfield Heights

That’s how I think it should have gone but come on I’m not a judge right!
But then again at St. C anyone can be a judge right.

There is no reason to argue about this competition. All the placings are extremely fair. I personally had a great time.

I'm going to have to stick up for my choir now...
Over the past 3-4 years the group has started to place often in finals. We work very hard and we don't hold anything back. As for people saying we should've been slaughtered... I don't get the thinking behind that. We have clean creative choreo, nice dynamic and styled vocals, and we have amazing soloists. We aren't a push-over group. We have talent and desire more than anything.

We deserve just as much credit as Garfield Heights at becoming good in a short period of time.

I love Garfield's show I thought it was amazing yesterday, but I feel we are pretty much equals... we've placed above them twice by one spot and they have done the same to us. The judges on any given Saturday can go either way.

By the way, as far as the judges not being qualified... you guys are full of it. They've all had proper music education and they've been involved for years with quality groups and programs.

Beaver Creek is a good group. Everyone feels they should've been in finals. I want to say this as kind as possible, but they are not as good as last year. They had very nice choreo and vocals, but it seemed sorta blurred and all the same.

The only three groups that entertained me were Teays Valley and Garfield. And St. C Singers had an awesome show even if they were just an exhibit. I feel that with different judges the top 3 in this competition would still be the top 3 just probably switched around.

My opinion. Teays, Garfield, and Edgewood all had a legit chance at bringing home gold.
