Alright... wow, so I just woke up and showerd, and now waiting for Ben and Jorge (Adam) to come up to CR to see me... if they didn't get enough of me yesterday

So I got in town, got food and then got there in time for Troy. And that is where I'll start my opinions:
Cedar Rapids Kennedy: Alright. Day rounds, the sound was soprano heavy. And it felt like you guys were attack everything so much more, and it just made it weird, I realize you guys had to make finals and it paid off but it just really seemed attack at, but it was still good. The mics were a huge issue when it came to the novelty, at least the short guy (I always forget his name) got the mic that worked to help save the novelty. Your ballad has gotten SOOOOO much better since linn mar and so has Derek Boots. You guys always pick out the best ballads. Show off is good, but it is such a random closer. It always makes me feel good and then it stops, not that closing feel. Paige, way to go! I personally love your voice and you deserved it again. And Derek, I SAW YOU!

Cedar Rapids Washington: I like the show. It isn't "amazing" but I like it. The first half of the show makes me love you guys a lot but then you get to the ballad and its just... weird? The day rounds I was happy with the performance, it was good and just enough to get into finals. Seeing scores and results, I honestly wasn't "shocked" you were so low, all the groups just had a better show and were just as clean tho. Finals performance: HOLY CRAP. In the matter of 30ish mins you guys REALLY stepped it up. Vocals were a lot better, the choreo was cleaner, the energy you had made me SOOOOOO happy. Good job with your spot.

Linn Mar: Day Rounds- it had that feel of "as long as it squeeks us into finals thats good" to it. It was good, clean, strong. I loved the opener and the closer. Finals performance, you guys serriously blew me away. I personally had you in 1st after your performance. You had way more energy, the vocals and choreo were just sharper. There wasn't a down moment in your guys' show. The closer was FREAKIN AWESOME. I couldn't have been happier with your performance, my personal favorite of the year.

Troy: Day round performance i was like... "Where is it?" i just didn't get a good feel for the whole show. The opener was pretty clean, but when it got to the end i don't know... i just couldn't feel it. The closer was cute, but I personally disliked the guys costumes, LOVED THE GIRLS! Those shoes are huge, and it was so cool, and it was real ****ty the mics didn't work. And we met one of your moms who sat in front of us, and after glaring at us all day she was finally nice before she left and found out what we were saying was a total joke and she got happy with us, hah. Finals performance for me was a lot better, but it still didn't strike me, doesn't stick. I have a cool picture I took that I'll post up here once I get home.

I.C High: I've seen the show from Linn Mar and just not impressed. Its good, but just doesn't do anything for me. in my opinion i wouldn't have had you in finals, let alone ahead of Jefferson after your night round performance. Novelty still cracks me up.

Cedar Rapids Jefferson: CLEAN AND VOCALLY WONDERFUL. I loved the opener male soloist, he was great. You were my favorite for day rounds. I loved your Show Off a lot, at first when you got done, i was like "That can't be the closer..." cause it felt like you closed I wanted to get up every time, but the tap blew me away you guys are great at what you did and I was just in awe. Your finals performance only got better for me.

Xavier: You guys should have been in finals, hands down. You guys were awesome. The tap was great and vocals weren't as stong as they could have been but still good. Sorry about the pillars falling, that sucks.
The one issue I have is the guys song... the shirts... and it just isn't as.. strong, but its good.

My results:
GC: Linn Mar
1st RU: Jefferson
2nd RU: Kennedy
3rd RU: Troy
4th RU: Washington
5th RU: I.C High

Chris...linn mar has a great show and i love them. I just dont see why everyone is so in love with them. They arnt better then everyone else...the dont really have anything that STANDS out...i mean they are a very talented group obviously but i dont see why u love them so much.....ps...u dont understand our ballad because its to vocally challanging for you. Its probabaly one of the most challanging songs that i have ever sung because of the minor 2nds to minor 3rds all the way back to major...its crazy hard...so if u dont understand or like our ballad...look at the tech. aspect of it

what a comp! there were so many good groups!

Cedar Rapids Kennedy- good show, i loved it, good vocals i was actaually entertained!!i was impressed with the energy and the presence was amazing! good job!

Cedar Rapids Washington- I enjoyed the show, i felt your choreo was strong and vocals were good, but i found some parts of the show a little draging on, but overall i thought it was a good performace

Linn Mar- I thought the vocals were the highlight of your show, choreo really didnt appeal to me it seemed to be used over and over again, the programing didnt seem to keep me intrested the whole time i felt like i was having to keep self concentrated on watching instead of enjoying.

Troy- i loved it!! to me you guys had the whole package, the ballad was amazing, there were some spots that could be better in your show but i liked the programing in your show it seemed to have an order, i appreicted that your show was a completely different style than that of the other schools that are more tradtional show choir.

Iowa city- i was impressed with the sound and choreo of your show! i loved the novelty i thought it was funny! way to go guys keep up the good work!

Cedar Rapids Jefferson- great show overall, i enjoyed it! the vocals are good and the choreo was good too, i missed your finals show becuase i was eating but i felt you had a strong show in prelims! awesome job.

my overall thought
GC- Cedar Rapids Kennedy(vocals)
1RU- Troy(choreo)
2RU- Cedar Rapids Washington
3RU- Cedar Rapids Jefferson
4RU- Linn Marr
5RU- Iowa City
these are my thoughts on the comp, i thought it was an exciting day though i loved it! probably one of the most enjoyed comps i have been to in a while! great job to all the schools though!

Not sure how much this helps . . . but reinforcing what others said about the night scores

kennedy won by 34 or something close to that
wash beat linn mar by 2 or 2.5
linn mar beat troy by 1.5 or 2
troy beat city by 15 or 20
city beat jeff by just a couple points

that's what i remember from the bus ride home at 1:30 AM

great job to all the groups who competed

i certainly agree with everyone's opinions of day round . . . no one had any idea what the placings would be, because everyone did such a great show

i always like it when groups move around between day and night round. but i was completely surprised by how much place swapping there was. wash: i didn't see your show, but i can hardly imagine how much better you did in night round to jump from 6th to 2nd. great job

best of luck to everyone on the rest of the year

-Chris

Congratulations to all of the CR Choirs, this is definitely a good year for Cedar Rapids. I know the finals results were close, and I think that puts us all on a relatively even playing field. I'm honored to be included in the amazing Show Choirs of Cedar Rapids.

I only have one issue with the day. When they announced 1RU during PREP daytime awards, I saw the worst display of sportsmanship from a choir I think I've ever seen at a Show Choir competition. We all need to remember that the 1RU deserves their moment of recognition, and the GC should never EVER celebrate before their name is called.

I won't even go into this, but most the time when someone wins they are overwhelmed with excitement. Have you ever watched Miss America?? They do the same thing....but I won't even say anything else except, since you brought it up, I heard some Linn-Mar people saying some things that would not probably be to your level of sportsmanship, and I don't hold the whole group accountable for some people though.

Anyone know the point totals for the night round? I heard Kennedy won by 34

I'm glad that I got to see you too... I miss old faces sometimes, and it made this competition that much better.

And I'm sure that Jorge will have point totals for the evening soon... I can only imagine this to be true.

Kennedy was ahead by quite a large amount, but I'm not completely sure the exact total. Wash was ahead of Linn-Mar by 2.

Doesn't surprise me....

I think 2nd, 3rd, and 4th had to be real close!!!!

And 5th and 6th were prolly real close to each other.

I agree completely. I was sitting right next to the Ovation section (as was 10th Street Edition, if I remember correctly, so you should know what I'm saying). They were being generally loud and boisterous during the entire preliminary award ceremony in the first place. Mr. Reese's special announcement about the importance of recognizing all groups was directed primarily at them, I think. It's too bad that such a talented group lacks in sportsmanship.

Just to add on to Adam's scores, here are the total vocal, choreography, and other scores....

Vocals:
1st- Kennedy (243)
2nd- Washington (239.5)
3rd- City High (236.5)
4th- Prairie (233)
5th- Troy (232.5)
6th- Jefferson (230)
7th- Xavier (229)
8th- Linn-Mar (227.5)
9th- North (210.5)

Movement:
1st- Kennedy (203)
2nd- Troy (201)
2nd- Jefferson (201)
4th- Linn-Mar (200)
5th- Xavier (195.5)
6th- Washington (194.5)
7th- Prairie (191.5)
8th- City High (190)
8th- North (190)

Other:
1st- Kennedy (203)
2nd- Troy (201)
3rd- Jefferson (197.5)
4th- City High (197)
5th- Linn-Mar (196)
6th- Xavier (194)
7th- Washington (189)
7th- Prairie (189)
7th- North (189)

Also.... Kennedy had a final score of 649 in the prelims... not 644 as originally stated... unless one of the individual scores is wrong...

Vocally Washington got a 1st, 2nd, and 8th.... so obviously they had really good vocals and their singing pushed them into finals. You could also say that Linn-Mar's First Placement from Melissa Stainbrook could be discounted... just because David Legg placed Linn-Mar 9th and Heath Weber placed them 7th... so let's not go into the one judge changed the entire finals scene.... Because it could've happened any way.
