I did.... my sister goes to Linn-Mar and I had put my stuff with hers all day. When I went to go pick up my stuff I was saying goodbye to my sister and also to some of my friends from Linn-Mar. I tried to compliment everyone from Linn-Mar that I saw, because they had a FABULOUS show and deserved tons of compliments, but all I got from Linn-Mar people were bad attitudes towards me, just because I was an alum of another school. I was receiving bad looks from everyone and I heard a lot of complaining. I understand that y'all were disappointed with your placements, as would a lot of choirs of Linn-Mar's caliber, but I just don't think the disappointment was handled as well as it could. I dont know how many people from Linn-Mar got to see Troy but they also had an AMAZING show and wonderful choreography.

Congratulations to all of the CR Choirs, this is definitely a good year for Cedar Rapids. I know the finals results were close, and I think that puts us all on a relatively even playing field. I'm honored to be included in the amazing Show Choirs of Cedar Rapids.
I only have one issue with the day. When they announced 1RU during PREP daytime awards, I saw the worst display of sportsmanship from a choir I think I've ever seen at a Show Choir competition. I'm from West, and I have two things to say about this, and the only reason I'm saying them is to say the 2nd one.
1 - they are a prep group. They probably don't know the "unwritten rules of show choir" The moment that they found out who got 1RU was the moment they knew they won what was probably the biggest competition of their young show choir careers. I'm sure they will learn to wait till their name is called to celebrate as they further their high school careers, but these are rookies. If it was an open class group, I would expect much more.... not that it makes it ok from a younger group. If that was the worst display of sportsmanship you ever saw, look no further than you own choir to top it because...
2. One of the Linn-Mar representatives, while standing on stage waiting to hear who won (after they already knew what place they got) actually sat their trophy on the ground and placed their hands on their hips when Troy was announced as Best Choreography, as if to say "are you kidding me?" I heard so many Linn-Mar kids complaining in the halls afterward that it was ridiculous. Not just complaining... loud, profanity-laced complaining. I heard some Jefferson people complaining, and a few from Troy, but nothing compared to Linn-Mar. Talk about poor sportsmanship! So lets all make sure we do a good job from our own group with sportsmanship before we go pointing fingers.
Like three hours ago we added a huge sign to our show, I had no idea how hard it is to have backdrops/sets. I seriously thought during the run-throughs that someone was going to die...props to dealing with that throughout the season. Hopefully we'll have it up at Fab Five so you all can see it.

thank you all for the compliments. And, while I didn't see all the shows, I enjoyed what I did see. I know Kennedy (as previously stated) stepped it up SO MUCH from last weekend. I was impressed at Benton, and this weekend just proved to me how talented your ensemble is. I also really enjoyed Wash's show, and was glad that I got to see them. I also want to appologize on behalf of our prep group. Someone mentioned that it was the worst display of sportsmanshipl; I agree. Another student and myself brought this up in class today. Hopefully attitudes will be changed. I was slightly embarassed by the behavior and am hoping that I will never have to make a statement like this again. I think people need to realize that show choir is something we do for fun, and while there's a competitive aspect we need to recognize the accomplishments of others. I'm hoping that next weekend and in the seasons to come Jefferson will exhibit more class than what was shown during awards this past Saturday. Congrats to all! It was a TIGHT competition and I'm glad we got the chance to go.
That's actually exactly what we thought when we watched the tape (after we stopped laughing of course). The pillars actually fell kind of in rhythm and at the right time... I mean, if it wasn't for the combo fumbling with them during the solo in our closer, it might have actually looked OK. I'm glad no one was injured and the columns remain intact.
That idea about the weights is a good one Jay. I'll talk to the director about that; however I don't think we will have that problem again. They fell because they were bumped by one of our techies. I'm sure he will be extra careful in the future. ;)
I'm glad you liked the show Adam. I hope you decide to come to Waukee to see it again!
See, I thought those pillars were planned to fall down because the song was like "Take down the roof/raise the roof" or whatever. But then when I saw the band and crew members freaking out I noticed it was a mistake.

I was thinking about like clips or something that could clip to the back of the back riser. When we had a backdrop (which in essence is what the pillars are) we had it behind the back riser on wheels. Perhaps something to think about for next year. It might be a little harder to tip over.
Again Xavier, I'm dreadfully sorry about laughing about this, but I've already apolegized to many of you about this. OMG!!!! That was the funniest thing ever. I'm sorry but it was. I remember hopring that the pillars wouldn't fall down, just because you guys had a hard time getting them set up. Also, the look on the band members faces was priceless.... However, we all must commend you on being VERY professional about this situation... I just had an idea. why don't you install some weights (cement?) in the bottom of the pillars. Also, if you could possibly move them closer together that might help the tension between them. Idk if that's possible though, I didn't look closely to see how their position correlated with the position of the stage and risers...

I'm pretty sure it was just whoever had the 6 highest scores made finals regardless of class. I know Adam posted that Cedar Rapids Jefferson "Ovation" was in 9th place overall after the day round. I'm sure if it wasn't such a stacked competition prep groups could've made it. Also, I no longer believe in the first spot is the worst spot theory. At Viterbo in 2005 Holmen's prep group was the first to perform. They ended up getting 5th in day round and bumping up to 6th in finals. At Big Dance last year Troy Buchanan and Cedar Rapids Washington both went EXTREMELY early at a VERY packed competition (I think the performance times were like 10 or 11?) and they placed 6th and 7th at that competition with most of the competition going much later in the day. Also at the past two Great Rivers Cedar Rapids Washington has gone first out of all the varsity groups in finals and still placed highly both times. I know it wasn't the first of the day for Wash, but I believe that if you set the bar high you can be remembered the entire day.

I don't view Ankeny or Linn-Mar the same way. I think both schools have their very own style. I don't see Linn-Mar doing tap numbers and I don't see Ankeny doing rock medly closers.
No way, Troy's prep group gets into finals (unless the top scorer from prep goes into finals). I doubt they will even beat Kennedy or Linn-Mar's prep groups let alone CR Xavier or Prairie.
I didn't think prep groups were even considered for finals. We were not expecting that at all. We would have loved to have performed at a later time though.
