I would almost venture to say I agree with those finalists... but I believe in history... and history has shown us that "Great River" is always Cedar Rapids Washington's BEST performance. They have never not made finals since beginning to attend in 2003. Even their worst year where they tried being dancing cat toys on stage (2004), they made finals with a rather strong day performance. This has been consistent even with the many judges changes from year to year. So, I wouldn’t sell Washington short yet.
But they can be that Bufflo Grove or Onalaska of Great River.

I can not even begin to guess who is and who isn't going to make finals. This is going to be nuts! It's seems to me everyone is going to be on such and even playing field from reading the results from other competitions.
From what I hear-
Iowa City High is hot.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy is getting better. They ALWAYS have their show spotless by GR.
Cedar Rapids Washington has a great show, just a shaky start to their season.
Davenport North hasn't started their competition season yet, but receieved a division 1 at STATE contest.
Mt. Prospect's first competition is Great River.
Sauk Prairie is new to the competition, but will have what seems like a hundred performances under their belts by GR time.
Linn Mar has had some strong showing already and will be rarin' to go.
Crete Monee started off their competition under their new director, Kennedy's former director Kevin Benford, at the hard competition Mt. Zion... improvement was made and they placed in finals at Danville. Mr. Benford has won three of Kennedy's four GC finishes at Great River. He's no newbie to the scene.
Iowa City West started off their season incredibly strong and always has either the highest or some of the highest vocal scores at Great River.
Now, can you see how I wouldn't have a clue?! haha
That's the beauty of "Great River", it's always a nailbiter!

At Mundelein, the Single-Gender groups are definitely not considered JV to the mixed group's varsity. In 2005, both Lights and Sound (the mixed group) attended, but Sound was disqualified because many of the girls from Lights also performed in Sound. The competition saw this as having varsity players in the JV group... so that's why Mundelein is only bringing their Single-Gender groups this year.
I just want to make sure that you understand that these rules are not from "Great River" but are from the IHSMA (Iowa High School Music Association). If the State wasn't lame, it would not have been a problem (because it really wasn't with any of us), but because there are consequences to the host schools for not following STATE rules, we had to implement them.
I still feel really bad and embarrassed about the situation… but we are so glad Mundelein is returning!
