i have to agree. at first, i saw them and it was like, "what's with the burlap sacks?" but i knew after seeing all of the opening costumes what the theme was. i was quite impressed by the costumes, however unconventional. i do have to disagree on their "best visuals" award. i felt that cg or center grove should have taken it. however, they put on a great show and i think it takes guts to spend money and time to travel across the country and compete with some of indiana's finest...AND to show them who's boss ;] congrats to burbank.
and as a member of belles et beaux: thanks, i feel like we're underappreciated sometimes and it's nice to know that people enjoy our show :]

Thank you very much.

I disagree! Burbank's costumes were stylistically correct, fresh, well-designed, and quite innovative and practical. Besides CG, they had the best costumes of the whole competition. Also, NC did give some really great moments of modern and fresh choreography but ultimately, Burbank was too good. Burbank's choreo was clean, it gave you great pictures (which is an area I think NC could improve in), and every bit of choreo was stylistically appropriate for every music selection. Damon and April did their thing with Burbank's show.

Great competition last night! All the finals groups were impressive! I felt the results in both divisions were accurate and fair. P.S Congrats to Plainfield on making finals in a tough field. I enjoyed you guys last night. Great opener!

I came to the comp expecting Burbank to win, but wasn't so sure after seeing the performances. I really though North Central gave the best show. Burbank's vocals were amazing, but their choreo was nowhere near North Central's. I was quite surprised to see Burbanks getting the visuals. The caption that they could have given: "Worst costumes in the history of Show Choir: Burbank."

N.C.'s costumes were on the opposite side of the spectrum. Maybe N.C. got some points taken off by judges who were unhappy with the inconvenience of having to put their eyeballs back in their sockets.

People, people, peoole... allow a little post-contest hyperbole, will ya? There area good choirs everywhere. And as a born and raised Hoosier I'm proud to say Indiana is and always will be the ancestral home of all show choir. I am nevertheless just as proud to say my adopted home is gettin' 'er done!

I agree with Damon. There is just so much talent in the whole country when it comes to show choir. I wish there was a true National Championship in show choir. not like we have now where only a few top schools face off....but where All the top notch programs get together and have that showdown. Think about it...yes it would take more time...but if you had a regional competition at the fame sites (which would be designated for regions) and then had one national championship for the top two or three of each regional.

I think a greater point is that it's really cool how you now have tremendous powerhouse groups from virtually every part of the country! Yes, the midwest (Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska) has a true depth of great schools that's difficult to rival for sheer quantity, but you can look virtually anywhere in the nation and find excellence. Look west and there's a lot of great California schools, plus a couple largely unheralded quality programs in Arizona and New Mexico. Look east and you've got Greece Athena, Manchester, Hurricane and others. Look into the deep south, and you find not only Clinton and Petal, but lots of up and coming powerhouses in Alabama and Mississippi. In Utah you find Spanish Fork. In Oklahoma you find Jenks. Even Texas, always considered a state dominated by marching band and football, has show choirs sprouting root now in the Dallas area. I know of show choirs even setting up shop in Alaska and Hawaii (where would I rather travel for contest in mid-February between THOSE two!?)

I'm not debating this discussion or voicing an opinion on where the best choirs lie. Just being appreciative of the fact that our art form continues to grow, spread its branches, dig its roots deeper and provide increasing opportunities for people to enjoy this great "monster" we all love!

My apologies for going off topic. I just thought it was a good discussion.

California mentionables:
Burroughs
Burbank
Maybe chula or hart

Indiana Mentionables:

Carmel (who would in my opinion beat any show i've seen from burroughs or burbank, though burroughs is my fav choir ever!)

North Central (who, beg pardon, did beat burroughs... Cali's best choir)

Huntington North (incredible again this year though didn't show strong early)

Center Grove ( Always a feared name at any competition)

Franklin Central ( Very close competitior to all these groups mentioned above, every year)

Lafayette Jefferson (The very reason cali knows how to do show choir)

You can't have 2 national championship choirs in your state and call it the "New Home of High School Show Choir".

Im going to have to agree...I think that California has some great choirs, but as far as overall depth I feel like Indiana has 5 or 6 that could Win anywhere on any given weekend. Also people tend to forget about Lawrence Central when they talk about the best in Indiana. They have not traveled as much lately for them to get there name out there more...but they have been very strong the past 5 or six years. They are always in the running for GC come time for awards...and in the past few years they have beat Center Grove, Franklin Central, Huntington North a few times, Lafayette Jeff at least twice...and they came real close to beating Attache a few years ago...just sayin its somethin to think about.

as for yesterday...Burbank definately brought it yesterday and got a well deserved Win...Great Job!

Second place could have been a toss up between Center Grove and NC...take ur pick really...but I think the Judges definately got it right yesterday in finals.

wow! The Fact that u mention chula and hart and not Brea shows you have NO CLUE about cali show choir. Brea is currently clearly on the level of Burroughs and Burbank. Not to mention los al. Arcadia. Bonita. Serrano. El rancho. Rancho verde. Diamond Bar. Etc... You have probably never seen those top notch choirs who could most definetly compete with the best of Indiana. To say Cali only has 2 choirs who could compete with the top Indiana groups is ridiculous and ignorant.

Back to topic though, congrats to Burbank! I knew you would win... What a year you're having... If Burbank wins Los Al they would have beaten North Central, Brea , Burroughs, Clinton, and Center Grove. Have a safe flight home and can't wait to see you soon!

well, well... another week of show choir! here is how i feel about this competition...
however, keep in mind that my opinion and 4 dollars might get you a cup of coffee at starbucks, so...

well, burbank got GC... as everyone predicted... i, personally, had mixed feelings about their show: i thought vocally they had phenomenal sound, but i felt like there wasn't a lot of contrast... i loved their opener, though... what can i say? i'm a mozart fan...
visually, i thought their outfits were kinda weird... and i'm just not a big fan of damon's choreograpy (personal preference)... however, very clean and mutifaceted

center grove's show was... i don't know... boring? i know that's terrible to say, but i think i'm just not really into their "style"... their guy's number was cute, though

i think that north central should have won this competition (as well as ben davis)... but that is obviously just me... i can't help it; i LOVE their show... it is so different than anything that we are so used to seeing... and it is just... so fun... CP keeps me entertained throughout the show, unlike many groups that i see

as for the last finals slot, i cannot believe that plainfield got in over warren central...
it's incredible, and i'm glad that we did, but i just wanted to let everyone know that it was not expected...

oh, and congrats to NC for the solo sweep... and especially to LAUREL!!! for winning... you go, girl!

I was incredibly shocked to see that Warren didn't make finals. Thats the first time in several years. Congrats to Plainfield!! Can't wait to see the results.

Well it's not necessarily unheard of.

I LOVE Warren's vocal sound! 2006 2007 2008 and 2009 shows have been GREAT! but they really don't dance much... I think their shows are still really entertaining but visually a little dry.

Before 2006 Warren was kind of a dark horse school. They might slip into finals occasionally but it wasn't until then that they became a threat to the other indy schools.

Congratulations to Lawrence Central for hosting the 21st Central Sound Classic. As always, it was a totally professional and well-run competition. Kudos to the LCPAA for all the hardwork to make it a success! Parents rock!

The photos were taken by The Studio by Mark Rice. They have a website; I think it's something like thestudiobymarkrice.com but I'm not exactly sure.

HAHA! 2 choirs that might compete with any top 5 in indiana. Lucky for burbank that there were 3 major comps going on in indy that day.

Come on scott...

I beg to differ...

Burbank, I couldn't possibly have been more proud of you last night. Although I was confident your show could be great, you brought it to a level I didn't know you had! Against some truly remarkable competitors with fantastic shows you came away with your goal. Great work!!!

To Impressions, I thought you performed admirably last night and I was thrilled at how your show has come along since January. CG's ladies were spectacular, as were NC's, so you have NOTHING to feel bad about. You're a great, talented group. Get well, then get back to work! God Bless, Damon

Does anyone have information on how to get a DVD of the finals at Lawrence Central?

KI Video Productions out of Kokomo Indiana. I don't believe they have a website so you will have to look up the telephone number.

Additionally Middle School Results:

GC: Ankeny Connection
1RU: Oak Hill Singers
2RU Norwood Wave of Youth
