Here's to hoping the judges wouldn't be biased because of the school's situation....

I guess I'm going to have to be the whiny bad guy and say at first, this comment really upset me. But hey, if Marysville earns a GC in Nashville in their minds, who really cares what the judges decide?

So I'm not really upset, and I see where you're coming from. But I think the judges will be fair and honest regardless of the choir's situation.

It is true that Loveland beat Marysville at Fairfield and took choreography, but nobody knows what the point spread was there. I bet it was within fractions of a point.

Marysville and Loveland were tied in both choreo and vocals after finals, so yes, it was very close. I believe the overall margin was about 2 points.

The reason I believe Loveland will do shockingly well at this competition is because it seems to me like they have improved a lot over this competition season. Not only did they beat Marysville but they also beat Piqua at Teays Valley comp. after losing to them at Twinsburg. This leads me to believe they are just getting better and better every week! But honestly Marysville, Loveland, Findlay, Clover Hill and Hastings all have a shot! Good Luck to All!!

Also, you cannot judge groups based on previous records or what previous judges thought. Every competition is new and every judge has their own preference and opinion.

Very idealistic statements and while I agree that the latter is true, I disagree to a certain extent with the former. Judges do have different opinions and different preferences. However, it's not like judges have exorbitant differences in valuing vocals and choreography. If someone is a judge at a show choir competition (let alone a national championship event), then it more than likely means that the person is qualified in their respective category (vocal, choreo, band judges, etc.). I think the "every judge has their own preference" debate is a better fit when talking about Powerhouse/In Sync styles (Story shows/theatrical) compared to Waubonsie Valley/Twinsburg styles (Midwest/traditional). Or at competitions where the level of competition is so severely awesome that it's unpredictable. Whereas at this competition, I think the best group will win and that it will be relatively clear in the judge's eyes.

Long tangent, but in short, I think making predictions based off of a show choir's performance record thus far this season is fair. And the Marysville/Loveland conversation was discussed on the second page, so check that out as well.

Any news of a possible live feed????

I don't think Show Choir Nationals provides a live feed. At least I had never heard about it previously, so if one is offered this year I believe it will be new. There is no information about it on their website.

It will be interesting to see how Loveland and Marysville place. Marysville has beat Loveland on many occasions this year. But most recently Loveland beat Marysville and took Choreo at Fairfield. The reason I put Loveland ahead of Marysville, is because I think the judges scores at Fairfield are usually very accurate.

Marysville beat loveland 3 of the 4 times they met this year (including a 34 point sweep over them at Loveland acording to patrickmon) then loveland had their moment at fairfield. You never know until it happens, and when it happens it happens. Good luck to all competing!!!! Any news of a possible live feed????

Good luck to Hastings and Marysville! As an alum of Hastings, I honestly wouldn't be any less excited if Marysville won this. It would be an awesome way to end things for Mr. A, if things are indeed ending. Hastings has been doing well for the past few years and it wouldn't be the end of the world if they didn't win this competition. However, I bet they disagree with me. Hehe. I bet they want it! They are a bunch of nice kids though and if they've heard about what is going down in Marysville, I bet there will be some hugs exchanged at that competition! GOOD LUCK!! Marysville, I hope you get to keep your awesome director!!

But seriously... does anybody for sure know who's judging?

The SCN website doesn't say. I would encourage students of attending choirs to ask your directors. I would assume they have (or will) receive a packet of information and I would assume the judges would be included. ... and when you find out, let us know.

I strongly believe that everyone in the show choir world will be pulling for Marysville.

Jeremy Alfera is one of the best directors in the country and the best way to send him out, sadly, will be a GC at SCN. I love you guys.

these posts seriously bring me to tears! we are doing everything we can to save our director and i know every single person appreciates immensely all the support the show choir community has given us.

so excited to see other groups, especially my Clover Hill Big Cheeks friends;)

Everybody needs to know that this isn't the end for Alfera! There is still hope! Marysville has a levy in May, and that will be the ultimate deciding factor of whether or not he'll stay with us next year or not.

Please have hope! And thank you to everybody for all of the support!!!

Same here, except I'm gonna replace Rock Bridge with Jefferson. From what I've seen, Rock Bridge is could be a little out of their league with choirs like Hastings, Loveland, and Findlay. Jefferson is used to a more difficult playing ground and are consistently scored against many, many ridiculously talented choir. Rock Bridge was beat by their own JV at a competition this year. BUT, Jefferson could be bumped out of finals by Totino if they don't step it up. Totino is a confidence shaker for Jefferson, even if it's an off year for them. It'll be interesting to see Totino and Jefferson duke it out for the last spot in finals!

However. Rock Bridge was tied with ATSC going into finals at Pleasant Hill. ATSC did sweep Hastings this year(Viterbo 101). It was the first competition of the year however so that was an extremely risky comparison for me to make. Buuuuttt I'm still gonna make it.

Predictions:

GC: Marysville. I think a lot of people in the show choir community will be rooting for them here. I just really hope that they can channel all of that emotion into positive energy on stage. Best of luck. I will be rooting for you all the way from Des Moines Iowa.
1RU: Hastings. Even with all that Marysville has been through I think that Hastings could really push them here.
2RU: Findlay
3RU: Loveland
4RU: Rock Bridge
5RU:A big bunch of groups could work their way in here. Ill go with Clover Hill here though. However, I really could see Jefferson and MAYBE Totino.

Im not gonna even try with captions. I really dont know much about any of these groups. Over 4 years I only competed against like 6 of them. I was only in varsity for 2 years so that narrows down my knowledge even more.
