While I don't think Bloomington Kennedy has the vocals to beat Burroughs, Waubonsie Valley, North Central, or Clinton, I do think they will solidly be in 5th place at FAME Chicago.
I am excited to see how North Central does their first time out, as I think they could potentially be at the top here- provided they have their usual vocals and energy, with a really well-designed show (an area in which Clinton is difficult to top). I LOVE Waubonsie Valley, but unless they changed their end of the show, I just don't think they have the show design to hold up to Clinton or North Central. Burroughs could be a bit of a wild card here- their show seems fantastic, but decidedly out there and perhaps a bit dark at the beginning- could alienate some judges, or could completely win them over.
I am painfully jealous of everyone free the weekend of this competition- I want to attend SO badly.
i know its really early, but does anyone have predictions?? i can say that the top spots will go to
Clinton, Waubonsie Valley, North Central, and Burroughs ... then rounding out the top are Bloomington-Kennedy and South Jones ... placements are still kind of a mystery really since Clinton and NC havn't competed yet ... Waubonsie has won everywhere they've been so far and Burroughs got 3rd at the competiton they went to ... I'm not sure about Bloomington-Kennedy or South Jones, though ... for a blind prediction, i'm gonna go with:
Grand Champion: Clinton "Attache"
1st Runner Up: Waubonsie Valley "WV Sound Check"
2nd Runner Up: North Central "Counterpoints"
3rd Runner Up: John Burroughs "Powerhouse"
4th Runner Up: South Jones "Company"
5th Runner Up: Bloomington-Kennedy "Rhythm In Gold"

According to FAME's website, this will take place March 29, 2008 (as someone else also mentioned) and will take place at the Genesse Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.
It's unfortunate that the contest is so late in the season, but either way I hope to attend.
I can't wait to see the official schedule or list of performers!

Please send me the FAME CHICAGO lineup when you get it PLEASE
This comp is on my Spring break so I will definately be there. I was at the cup in 2005 when Burroughs finished right behind Attache and I will be there for the rematch.
Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like the battle of the titans in March! I'll be VERY interested to see the results.
Let's not throw around that "T" word. I heard it so many times referring to the Hastings 2007 competition that it has lost its grandeur. I’m actually pretty sure they copyrighted the word!
Let’s call it the TITANIC COMPETITION! Only… this one won’t sink.

Talk about ridiculous
Clinton
North Central
Waubonsie Valley
Burroughs
4 of the top ten choirs in the country IMO, this will be one stacked competition
i shall be in attendance for this blood bath! hopefully they booked a large seating place for this one bc the show choir fanatics will all be in attendance for this one!

I think you've underestimated the potential gross. If we brought our group it would be 50 singer/dancers, 14 combo members, and 10 crew. We also usually allow any upperclassmen that are in our prep group to come on national trips, so you can usually add another 5-10 people for that. So we're talking about 80 people total or $20,000 just from one group. You can probably tack on 3 directors and 5-10 chaperones.
I'm guessing they're more likely to gross in the neighborhood of $500,000 if they pulled 30+ groups. And all of that is before all the parents and show choir fanatics pay $30-$50 in admission.
They still have to pay for the hall, promotions, judges, full time Fame staff, event staff, transportation/expenses for all of those folks, etc., etc., so that's not all profit. Even half of it in profit would be pretty good though if they can duplcate it at just three or four of their events (Chicago, Branson, Orlando, NYC).
Just to stop the rumors that may or may not be flying from such a post. The profit margin on putting together a national show choir competition would likely boggle your mind and leave you wondering why they go to all that work for such a small profit. Im certainly not interested in posting all the actuals, but Chicago, New York, Hawaii, Orlando and San Francisco are all INCREDIBLY expensive cities to produce an event such as ours in. In New York alone you are looking at $70,000 - $90,000 to rent a facility and that does NOT include sound, lighting, or the mandatory union/teamsters payroll. Factor in airfare for 5-9 adjudicators, hotels for three nights for those same adjudicators, staff airfare and hotels, meals, incidentals, etc etc. I think you'd be surprised that they offer you what they do at a pretty reasonable rate in the grand scheme of things.
On a more exciting note, Waubonsie Valley just joined the line-up at FAME CHICAGO!!
A smaller but very mighty line up this year.
CLINTON "ATTACHE"
JOHN BURROUGHS "POWERHOUSE"
NORTH CENTRAL "COUNTERPOINTS"
WAUBONSIE VALLEY "SOUND CHECK"
BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY "RHYTHM IN GOLD"
SOUTH JONES "COMPANY"
OMAHA NORTH "EXPLOSION!"
GILBERT, AZ
MacARTHUR, OK

Bloomington Kennedy Rhythm in Gold is competing for AA, East Side Swingers for A/Prep, and Viva Voce is just doing the choral portion.
We're really really excited! Hopefully we get to watch everyone else perform, it'll be amazing to see what schools with such big reputations can do!!!
