This is the rule in question...
Go to page 19 of this PDF file, and look at #6.

IHSMA Rule

This is from 2005, and I couldn't find show choir rules on any of the new "bulletins". Maybe they don't have the rule anymore after the Mundelein issue. I do not know.

I know Clayton because we've worked together, and we're friends.

Nothing has been sent to directors yet, but when we get them, there will be a list of rules that your director can read through- it will include any state rules that are in effect at the competition.

yes, one might think that, but it's probably difficult for people that frequently compete within Iowa state regulations to realize how strange it is to have to abide by rules from a state-wide body. nothing remotely similar exists within nearly all other popular show choir states, so from an out-of-state competitor's point of view, following these rules might seem very bizarre (if they happen to be privy to them at all).

Can anybody post or pm me all of the Iowa state rules for show choir? Good luck to all who is going to be there.

lol I thought EVERYONE knew about the rule after 2005!!!

btw... there is another competition across town that you can split groups with. I know in 2005 LaCrosse Central also had shared members and so GCS competed at Mo-Show and Central Connection went to Jefferson.

Aww! I love Clayton! I'm excited to see his choreography!

How do you know Clayton? I'm not saying he is unknown. I'm just wondering.

That statement is partially correct. The error of it is "Mundelein's mixed group has to be disqualified".

The choice was given to Mundelein to decide which group they would want to compete in finals (their girls group won the division and made it to finals). Mundelein ultimately decided to have the girl's group compete instead of the varsity mixed.

Thanks for the information. I will have my director check into that this week.

You aren't allowed to share members between the women's and the mixed choir? I will let my director know because Fusion is planning on making it to Finals and that would be a great shame to come 8 hours and leave because we were disqualified.

Eeeek. And so it begins.

perhaps this might cause some trouble. i see that both Rock Bridge's varsity and women's groups are signed up to compete in the open class - just this weekend both groups made finals and placed above some well-known choirs at Troy's invite, if this would happen again at CR Jeff's competition, would i be correct in assuming that one of the choirs could not compete?

if i recall correctly, Mundelein's mixed group had to be disqualified at Great River in 2005 for breaking Iowa state rules by sharing group members with their women's show choir. maybe Rock Bridge does not share members between their different choirs, but i know it's a commonplace practice in many programs and i'd hate to see another school be unwittingly dropped from competition, so perhaps someone from the Rock Bridge program should check into the specifics.

It has been a few years since I have attended the Jefferson competition, but I believe that it, at least was, the Top 6 scores regardless of class.

That's true; I remember a prep group making finals in 2004 over some open class groups.

How many schools go to finals from the open class? 3A class? 1A class?

But chances are they'll get annouced to go first in finals anyway - even though they aren't anywhere in the building (like last year... ugh...)

Ha! That was one crazy weekend last year!

The competition is creeping up fast. I'm guessing a schedule will be out soon. When one comes out can somebody post it (with performance times) so I can see it.
Thanks
