***CAN ANYONE tell me how I could purchase a DVD of this competition? I really hope you guys are gonna have one! i didn't see anything in the program about one - if someone could tell me, I'd really appreciate it.

Linn Mar does not sell DVD's of this competition, its sad, but that is they way they've always done it.
I think we should start an online protest and then give it to Mr. Anderson

wow - i meant to post this about two days ago, but my computer was screwy so i couldn't... until now!!! MUAH-HA-HA!!!! (so i just cut and pasted it and just reposted it now...)

Holy moley!

this was a really cool competition and I loved it! the most amazing thing to me was that this was prob. the 1st competition for most groups, and they were SO good! I couldn't believe it!

I was wanting to see Linn-Mar again since I saw you guys @ Viterbo. I guess i didn't look at schedules and assumed you were gonna perform after finals. CRAP! I was really looking forward to it, too! Oh yeah, i think your school is visible from space! how do you guys find all your classes in time? i'd be screwed!

I really didn't see one bad (no - not "bad" - less that good is what i mean(if that makes sense) " border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> ) I got to see Iowa City West right away when I got there @ like 10:30. I loved your show.

Then, I saw Iowa City High, Xavier, and Bemiji right away after lunch. Every one of you were really strong in your stage presence and performance. I was really amazed at how clean these shows were so early in the year.

I thought Bemiji had a great show, and like always, i love your band! The costumes were so different and cool! (metallic purple! AHHH!)

I never got to see Ankeny, even though I really wanted to. I did catch pretty much your entire show from one of those TV's throughout the school. Oh my lord! you guys were super clean and strong, and even though I couldn't see anything from the TV (all the girls dresses looked white in the wideshots) I could feel all the energy nonetheless! Congratulations!

And then... I saw the final few finalists. I saw CR Kennedy, and I thought you had one of the best novelties. A t first, I wasn't so sure, but then it went on, and i realized how clever it was! Your closer was really cool, too. I was reminded kinda of "Singin' In the Rain" with the flapper-type style.

I don't remember the order of finalists anymore, but I do know that I stayed to see Urbandale - which was the show I was most looking forward to seeing... and you rocked!

It was so good, easily the best live performance I saw there. I can't remember your songs off the top of my head, but I thought the 2nd song (the one about rain) was super cool! and your ballad was incredibly perfect. When they were gonna anounce Best Vocals, i really wanted you guys to get it! amazing job!

***CAN ANYONE tell me how I could purchase a DVD of this competition? I really hope you guys are gonna have one! i didn't see anything in the program about one - if someone could tell me, I'd really appreciate it.

I can't wait for the rest of the season to see some of those groups I missed! CONGRATS TO ANKENY!!!

A snipet from today's Des Moines Register:

You know, I honestly didn't realize that half the finalists were from the Des Moines metro area until just now...

which girls solo won?

Barracuda, of course.

I was surprised that we made finals after our day performance, but I was pretty happy with how we performed during finals, especially considering how many new people we've got.

I could go on a long discussion about how much I liked the other groups, but i've got homework to do. I had a lot of fun at the competition, and can't wait to see all the other groups at hastings.

First of all, congratulations to everybody that competed-this was an amazing day to watch. This was the first time I have ever been able to watch a competition through, and I must say it was really nice not to have to run around everywhere the whole day, although there were people everywhere.

Ankeny-YAY! " border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> You guys absolutely rocked. I loved the purple suits with the pink dresses and matching shoes-they looked really nice. Your singing was beautiful and your band was INCREDIBLE. Hooray. Your ballad was really pretty, and your dynamics were oh so good. I really liked your arrangement of "My Favorite Things"-it was different, but really cool. And I must say, I was just happy during and after your closer. The green flapper dresses looked really great, and your group actually did the tapping well (or at least it looked like it). Especially that one guy in the front middle. Way to go. You deserved every award that you received, and you should be very proud of winning this competition out of such an quality field of groups. " border="0" alt="thumbsup.gif" />

Urbandale-You were amazing as always. I loved your show. It had so much energy and just kept you on the edge of your seat. I loved the opener dresses. (That's probably just because I love purple and it seems like everyone else really likes red this year. lol). I loved your band too " border="0" alt="wub.gif" /> I really felt some great things during the ballad. All the horn breaks were really good.

I'm saving Totino for last because I have a ton to say about them because I know their show. blushing.gif

And I kind of forgot placements after this, so forgive me.

Johnston-Don't worry, I saw your show, both times! I know someone who graduated from there, so I made sure to watch you guys! I really liked your opener-it was very cool and I liked those beginning outfits. I slightly remember thinking that your diction was good in some spots in particular-of course I can't remember where " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> One of my favorite parts is when the girl soloist in "Lift Me Up" gets swung by those 2 guys. It just makes me laugh. I don't know why. lol. She was really good by the way I really liked your ballad. The guy with the solo (long hair) was great. Hug the girl with the trumpet solo for me yay! Your horn section was just good in general.

Bemidji-You guys continue to get better and better every season. Overall, the show had a lot of energy, but the band was a touch loud most of the time. You either need to adjust the volume or sing louder ;) But I must say that it wasn't louder than your fans sitting in the row behind me. lol. I was impressed by how many Bemidji folks came to watch you. You always have a great guitarist and use electronics really well. Sometimes I really don't like electric drumsets, but I think that it worked for the style of your show's music. I thought your vocals were good, but it sounded like you weren't pushing out a lot of sound like some of the other groups. This might have been because of the volume of the band. I think that your energy is really great, but peaks during "Eye of the Tiger." It would be great if you could carry that energy into the closer (which I really liked too!). Sometimes you lose intensity when you change dynamics, but overall, you were really great! And which girls solo won? There were a few in your show.

Happiness-I really really loved your show. I was sad that you didn't place higher. It was nice to see a novelty when there weren't many groups doing one, and like many people have already said-the Damon part is hilarious. " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I really enjoyed it, except the concept of "show choir satire" kind of got worn out with all the groups who did it last year. And the relationship part is so true. lol. I really liked "That's All." You had great attitude during that song. And I love love loved your closer. The solo girl was super duper. And the red flapper dresses and yellow shirts looked very nice. It had great energy all the way to the end. And how can one not like your group when you have a name like "Happiness"? ;)

Ok, Company (Ana please don't kill me for making so many comments... )

I am really proud of all of you. You really stepped up for finals. You looked waaaay more comfortable than during the day. Hooray for Brian I really like the opener. There are a few places where the synth is too loud towards the end of the opener. Chances is really pretty. I think that you guys can get a little more emotional with it (there I go sounding corny) and it will only get better. "Orange Colored Sky" looks really great, but you need to sing a touch louder and it will be perfect. I really like the Chicken song. In my opinion it could be a little faster, but like I have any influence anymore lol. Brown Derby Jump is so fun. During the dance break the band needs to have more presence on stage-you still look a little shaky. (I love Nick's little spin " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> ) "Snuff That Girl" is probably my favorite song of the set. I think it's because it has a little but of a novelty feel, and CoS always does well with that. Evan and Hannah's solos were really great. The auxilary hits were good, but they need to be a little louder. The beginning of "Raise the Roof" is the only part where things just seem a little off. I know that it was hard for the singers to hear on stage, and that most likely was the problem. You need to lock into a groove and stick with it. Things fell together pretty quickly, but there was a second where the singers and band were not quite in line with each other. Way to go for both Sams-one for the solo and the other one for dislocating his shoulder and still finishing the second half of the show ;) "Rock this Town" is a great way to end. As tough as all the dancing is, if you could push any more energy into it, you would really end with a bang. And the cops at the end are funny " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> , although I don't think anyone, especially during finals, can hear "The cops are coming!" because everyone is cheering (which isn't a bad thing lol). yay for those lifts at the end and not dropping anyone " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />. Those building backdrops look really nice-they make the stage look bigger and add a nice touch to the show. Yay for Company and way to go for holding your ground in Iowa!

And a lot of my comments are about band stuff...in case anyone gets confused (you can't tell that I was a combo kid at all... " border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> lol)

My only complaint about the competition would be that the theater isn't quite big enough-it's a shame that a lot of the choirs couldn't watch anybody because of space issues. It would have been cooler if the awards could have been in the auditorium, so that no one had to walk back and forth, and also to preserve the "official" feeling of the competition. However, the view was great from wherever I sat-even up against the wall. Thanks to Linn-Mar for hosting-your performance was really great too!

Here ends the longest post in show choir history. " border="0" alt="zipped.gif" />

i neglected to add my 2 cents worth. as stated from everybody it seems, i loved happiness' novelty! i also loved was it iowa city high, or west, that had novelty with the guys wearing mustaches'- with a little cleaning that will be killer! i only got to see urby on the tv, but i really liked your opener, and as the kids were taking the stage in the finals, a few kids from vitality i think, were nothing but supportive of johnston, and i think thats the greatest thing coming from the biggest rivalry that we have!
ankeny- although you do songs that have all been done by previous show choirs, i hate to admit it but you raised the bar to each song that had been done. i think your vocals were outstanding- with previous ankeny years since mr. dean has come into the picture i felt your choir had shouted a little bit more than needed, but this year i felt like y our group was dead on and diserved every captilon and ranking that you received.

bemiji- (i spelled it wrong i know it!) way to go! i havnt seen you guys since my senior year in 2004 at the totino grace compititon! i remember in finals watching the tv of you guys with some of inno in the cafeteria, and all of them saying 'holy crap their good!', i loved how you took the stage, and performed your opener, i hope we get to see you again this year, and if not next year for sure!

totino- sorry i didnt get to see your show i heard great things from it, and i saw you guys in costumes and im assuming you had done your show because everybody was full out exhausted
i only heard great things about it, and going off of past run-ins i'm sure it was nothing less of spectacular.

WOW! good times were sure had! It was an awesome competition and I am so glad we were able to go!!! I am also very thankful for the delicious bags of puppychow in the cafeteria!
Ankeny- I watched you guys on TV and wow, it looked amazing. I've got rhythm is my ultimate favorite song!
Urbandale- it was like one great song after another! I didn't even want to blink!
Bemidji- i just love you guys EVERY year. Everyone I talk to from bemidji is so nice! and what a great band ( wow guitarists! )
CR kennedy- so exciting! your novelty was soooooooooo funny, and your costumes were amazing!
Johnston-I didn't get to see the show, which is a bummer, but it was really fun meeting some of you!
Our lovely Linn-Mar room hosts- thanks for everything! The room was amazing, and so was the competition!

WaHOO!!!!!!! and so it begins...

About Johnston, Totino didn't get a chance to watch you guys, but if I could have, you know I would have been there, considering I know your group is fantastic because you always have been (well, at least since I first saw you ever, which would have been 2 years ago). I really hope to see your show in the future! Don't feel down about it, you guys just must be so good that there were no words to describe how amazing you were

I think that Scott's Photo was doing pictures at the competition. And sadly there weren't any videos for sale...just the ones that each group was given of their own performance. Maybe we could all get together and piece together a full video of the finalists' daytime performances.

A-ha - it appears it was Scott's Photo - but the pics don't seem to be posted yet. But all the groups names are there, so I guess they'll be up before too long:

Any link to pictures? I assume someone shot pics... there aren't any DVDs though, are there?

And oh yeah - huge congrats to Johnston! Can't wait to see the show!

And does anyone have the full results listings? Just curious... perhaps some of these things will surface this week when school's back in session.

im sure less people saw johnston than saw other groups like Urbandale, Ankeny, and Totino. that's what always happens to my group- not a whole lot of people come and watch. I'm guessing that's why a lot of people haven't commented on you.

i know exactly what you mean when people say what i say, even more so when no posts are made of the group. i just felt felt sorry for the group cuz they had been working really hard and it seemed that a good amount of posts had 5 mentionings of the finalists, but singled out johnston. thanks for your support thogh, and congrats on the comp! well diserved!

I would bet that fewer students saw the show, if only because of Linn-Mar's auditorium set up. However, the gym was really packed for johnston's show. I was in watching, and the energy was intense. There were literally no extra seats.

The thing is, if you look back, people have been mentioning johnston. I'm sorry if not having every single poster mention you bothers you, but it really shouldnt. Johnston's show was incredible, easily one of my favorite shows of the day. They deserved their ranking absolutely.

For everyone who went to Linn Mar, great jobs all around. I have never seen so many great groups at one competition before. And I loved the environment at both awards on Saturday. All the groups dancing in the gym was just fantastic. My only regret is I couldn't see more of the groups live.

Ankeny-I just want you to know that all of Happiness ran from our critique to see your daytime show only to be left out, because it was full. However, I watched it on the TVs and it was amazing in all aspects. I just wish I could have seen it live, because I don't think we go to any more competitions together.

Urbandale-Your day show was full and I was left out again and I was unable to see the night show, as well. But I watched as much as I could on the TVs and it was very impressive. I've been to Linn Mar for four years now and I still love how much support and respect that Studio and Happiness give to one another. As I was helping load our trailer to go home, numerous Studio members gave me compliments on our show. I hope you all enjoyed the Damon part of our novelty.

Totino-Once again, the aud was full for your daytime show and I once again watched it on the TVs and it was great show from start to finish. I hope to see you guys live at Milton or Nashville. And again when I was loading our trailer to go home, a couple Totino guys walked by and gave me compliments on our show and how they were looking forward to hanging out in Nashville. i can't wait til then.

Bemidji-I talked to a few of you at Perkins afterwards, and you are some of the nicest people I have ever met. I hope you all survived that 12 hour drive home.

To anyone who watched either of our shows live, thank you for being so responsive to every bit of our show. From start to finish, I felt a great vibe coming from the audience.

I wish all of the groups the best of luck the rest of the season.

-Chris
