Thats awesome to hear. The song is called "When you come Home" by Mark Schultz, and they are performing next week at johnston and then at keokuk and waconia.

That's a wonderful song.

How did Linn-Mar do in exhibition? I'm excited to see their show after the great things I heard after Viterbo?

And did Sioux City East not come this year? Is this the first year they haven't?

Sioux City East was at Onalaska this year.

One note- I wasn't able to watch many shows because of our performance time, but I did get to see a couple groups. IC West's ballad... wow. I cried. The vocals, the feeling. It was just great. I have never been touched by a choral piece like that. What is the name of their ballad? Where are they performing this year?

I had an amazing time!!!

In the Prelim awards, my heart was racing. The amount of talent at Supernova this year was outstanding... I was scared from the moment I walked into the competition. I enjoyed all of the groups, everyone was incredibly nice, and I made some new friends this year, which is new for me. I usually don't venture out to make friends at comps...

One note- I wasn't able to watch many shows because of our performance time, but I did get to see a couple groups. IC West's ballad... wow. I cried. The vocals, the feeling. It was just great. I have never been touched by a choral piece like that. What is the name of their ballad? Where are they performing this year?

The placings were based on ranking. I wish I had the numbers, but last night everything was just so jumbled...

The hospitality was great, and our hosts were amazing!!!

Good luck to everyone throughout your seasons!!!

What was totino's show?

Opener- "Who Loves You?"
Ballad- "Chances"
3rd Song- "Orange Colored Skies"
4th Song- "Ain’t Nobody Hear But Us Chickens/ Brown Derby Jump"
Novelty- "Snuff that Girl"
Closer- "Raise the Roof/Rock this Town

I would just like to congratulate everyone because in my opinion there were a ton of amazing groups that didn't even make finals. Thank you to everyone at Linn-Mar it was a very fun day!

Wow....when I was sitting there watching during finals (unfortunately I only got to see part of Bemidji, and then Kennedy and Urbandale), I was BLOWN AWAY. I didn't know show choir could GET this good! I'm so proud of every person who came to Linn-Mar because every group did extremely well, and personally, there were at least 11 groups I would have put in finals.

Ankeny--congrats! I REALLY wanted to see your show, but you guys performed right before us during the day, and you went 1st in finals, so I didn't get a chance...unfortunately there is no DVD for me to watch, so I'll have to catch it some other time. My mom said your show was really, REALLY clean, and that the band and the dancing was spectacular.

Urbandale--I was melting during your ballad. It was just plain amazing...I can't even describe it. Your energy is really high, and your singing is well supported despite the fact that you are dancing all over the place. Even though you didn't get GC, give yourself a pat on the back because you did REALLY well.

Totino-Grace--I'm in your group, and you all know that I'm extremely proud of how we did. Getting into finals was a huge acheivement in itself, and I don't think we have ever performed so well, even though Sam was in the hospital. I love you all!

Johnston--I didn't get to see your show either!! My mom wasn't in the auditorium for it, so I can't really comment on your show when I don't know anything about it. All I can say is that when I saw you last year, you had tons of talent, and that probably carried over to this year. I hope to see you later on in the season

Bemidji--GO MINNESOTA! It's great that 2 MN groups are in finals...we gotta represent, right? ;) I LOVED your show! It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time because I had no idea what was coming next! This just goes to show how underestimated you really are.

Cedar-Rapids Kennedy--I was laughing so hard I was almost crying during your novelty...it's probably the funniest novelty I have EVER seen. You sing really well too! You all have a TON of talent, and I'm thinking you will do well later on in the season.

CONGRATS TO EVERYONE!

Katy

until theyre officially posted i know a rough point outline for some of the schools in prelims. ankeny was about 8 points ahead of urby, urby was about 14 points ahead of totino, and totino was about 10 points ahead of johnston, and johnston was 3 points ahead of bemidji.

for band scoring, ankeny was .5 ahead of johnston, and johnston was .5 ahead of urbandale.

hope somebody can shed more light on the scores more accurately!

So, I have never before spent so long in a gym without once losing interest. I got there just in time for IC West, and saw every group after them, and wow, it was seriously amazing. In my opinion, the caliber of groups these days is much higher than when i first started paying attention to show choir. Or at least it seems that way. I think that the day round was pretty much dead on, although i really thought that Prarie was gonna make it into finals because their show really blew me away.

Urbandale was of course amazing, as was Ankeny. What made me the happiest, i have to say, was totino's show. I had really loved their show two years ago, and i got a little bit turned off last year just by the sheer size of the show. I loved the show this year, and it was great to watch them. Hopefully I'll get to see all three of these groups again this year.

Edit: Apparently, I have forgotten how to spell things.

I am writing this before work, but Bemidji I am SUPER excited to see you guys at Totino Grace. Your show was super fun but the only problem was the band overpowering you guys alot, which did suprise me that you made finals.

I had Xavier in finals, they looked awesome! And I can't wait to see them later in the year at Great River.

Johnston deserved the spot they had, they were wonderful and loved the show. My favorite show of the day.

Kennedy, the damon part in your novelty is hysterical I couldn't stop laughing at it. I liked the guys closer costumes

Totino- YAY! I loved your show. Not a "Totino" show in any way, I miss the 029384203841 props, but it was awesome. Every costume was excellent and fit the show very well. Be proud of the show and I can't wait to see you guys at Milton next week

Now I'm off to work.

Wes, we just spent like 13 hours at Linn-Mar High School, and you REALLY don't know how to spell their name? Seriously, no more poptarts on the bus... they do weird things to you.

This weekend was really fun! The results really weren't a shocker, but the level of competition in finals kind of was- it really did feel like old-school Onalaska finals- everyone was REALLY on their game, and there was definitely energy in the auditorium. Every single show improved from prelims to finals- some improved by leaps and bounds. We were really proud of how our kids performed last night- it was an awesome way to start the season. It's really an honor to place in a competition with groups like the ones we saw this weekend. Our kids had a great time at the competition, and a wonderful time on stage- they also really pulled together after a student took a little trip to the ER with a dislocated shoulder- things are never simple at Totino-Grace! lol

Ankeny, congrats on the sweep! You were definitely super clean!

Urbandale, I love you. Your show is just so fun and uplifting, and you have some really creative songs. I could listen to you sing anything, all day long, every day for the rest of my life and be content. The ballad is really beautiful- I loved the restraint and emotion the students showed- it's so nice to see a group take what most of us would turn into a typical show choir power ballad, and make it a nuanced, vulnerable journey- I know I sound cheesy, but once you hear it, you'll know. I really enjoyed your show, and can't wait to see you all in March at our competition.

A very big congrats to Bemidji- like usual, you have a really creative and challenging show, you're singing beautifully, and you make me proud to say we're a fellow Minnesota group. Someday, people will learn to stop underestimating you!!

Thanks to Bob Anderson, and all of the Linn-Mar parents and students for a really wonderful start to our season. It was a pleasure to be back this year- you run a FANTASTIC competition that we would recommend to anyone!
