I agree on all of these posts. When Davenport West had April as their choreographer from 2003-2006 they even had a certain difference from Linn Mar and Ankeny.

I'm also pretty sure Benton is choreographed by April as well.

Ankeny and Linn Mar may both be choreographed by April but they are completly different. If you will take a notice at the April groups they do not all get the same difficulty or style of movements. This depends on the directors styles in song choices along with the abilities of the members of each individual groups. Some April groups choice to sing more and dance less, some dance more and sing less, and i think some groups try to blend them. I do not think you should be sterotyping Linn-Mar as an Ankeny/April/Iowa group. Also Linn-Mar was has had April longer then Ankeny so if you wanted to say that it would be Ankeny has a Linn-Mar/April/Iowa style which is not the case at all. I have watched all the shows April has choreographed for both Linn-Mar and Ankeny, and the styles are different.

I don't view Ankeny or Linn-Mar the same way. I think both schools have their very own style. I don't see Linn-Mar doing tap numbers and I don't see Ankeny doing rock medly closers.

No way, Troy's prep group gets into finals (unless the top scorer from prep goes into finals). I doubt they will even beat Kennedy or Linn-Mar's prep groups let alone CR Xavier or Prairie.

April only does a few groups in Iowa, and I like to think all of her groups have an individual style. I think she does an awesome job of coming up with unique ideas for each of her groups. I know Ankeny's style and our style is completely different, thus I don't see how there could be an "Ankeny/April/Iowa/style."

On another note, we're extremely excited for this competition. I can't wait to see Momentum and Jefferson as I have yet to see them this year.

after seeing troy at mt zion (finals placements aside, i think they got robbed!) I would have to say that Troy will be a top contender for Grand Champion. I know LinnMar is good to, but in my opinion Troy offers more variety and sings better. I like what Linn Mar does but it all kinda tends to look the same, very "Ankeny/April/Iowa/style" NOT that there is anything wrong with that, its merely an observation. I appreciate the variety Troy offers, and again, IN MY OPINION, they will be a hrad act to beat. Of course it all depends on who judges, if its a predominatley Iowa panel then I figure Iowa groups will do well, if its a true mixed manel, then Troy should come out on top.

Iowa panel: Mixed panel:

GC: Lin Mar (choreo) GC: Troy (vocals)
1RU: Troy (vocals) 1RU: Linn Mar (choreo)
2RU: CR Kennedy 2RU: Kennedy
3RU: CR Washington 3RU: Washington
4RU: CR Jefferson (band) 4RU: Jefferson (band)
5RU: CR Xavier 5RU: Troy's Prep (the are QUITE good!)

A few things...

Have you seen Linn Mar this year?

Please explain the "Ankeny/April/Iowa/style" to all of us... last time I checked, not all Iowa choirs are Ankeny and not all Iowa choirs are choreographed by April James.

Also... Our "Iowa panel"? We have many judges from out of state come and judge. You must mean the "Iowa panel" that decided that Illinois choirs such as Eisenhower, Mt. Prospect, and Mundelein were to make finals over many Iowa groups in 2005? Hmmm.

Just curious.

GC:Linn-Mar “10th St. Edition”
1st RU:Troy “Express”
2nd RU:Cedar Rapids Washington “Momentum"
3rd RU:Cedar Rapids Jefferson “West Side Delegation"
4th RU:Cedar Rapids Kennedy “Happiness"
5th RU:Iowa City High “4th Ave. Jazz"/ Xavier “Xhilaration”

Best Vocals: Linn Mar
Best Choreo: Linn Mar
Best Band: Jefferson

I wish I could have seen 10th Street at Linn Mar, but from what I've heard they are the front runner to taking GC. Jefferson's band is usually awesome. I am sure my predictions will change after the next few weeks. And overall I think 1st RU-4th RU is a toss up.

Those finalists look about right to me. But I still need to see some shows to determine myself.

I don't know what happend to the 7th spot in finals. Usually they allow the highest scorer in either PREP, 1A, 2A, or 3A to compete in finals also. I'll check.

As a whole, the department was pretty upset. We got slaughtered that day. I mean, we didn't deserve probably top 3 or 4, but we were quite a few groups away from making finals if I remember correctly. Hopefully we'll do better this year. The director's way nice and he's kind of awesome at pep talking us into performing our best. But yeah, Adler got renovated? Sweet, I'm stoked to see it. What all's new?

Yea Umm... Kelsey... We have never not made finals there... You are thinking of Linn-Mar 2006 and honestly we didnt deserve to make finals that day, yea make sure you know what you are talking about before you say it,

Also I Hope to make it back for that Comp, but its a long way for me, anyone coming from west of ames that would want to pick me up lol or anyone that needs me to pick ya up? It looks like a fab five thing and i cant wait to see the CR rivalary without me pefroming in it ha, should be fun let me know if anyone needs a ride seriously

This looks to be a great competition. It'll be nice to see all the Cedar Rapids groups again. And an all-C.R. finals would just be crazy. " border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

I've asked and wondered about this forever. Your schedule online has said you guys were attending for a very long time, but we have not received ANYTHING telling us that you are. No registration form, no check, zilch. I am having Mrs. Dunnegan contact Mr. Drinkall ASAP to figure out if something was lost in the mail. It also could have been received on Central's end, and not relayed to Wests... but that's really hard to believe since they have meetings weekly and they have been working on the schedule.
