Good insight Jorge (even though you knocked us out of there). And totally true Pete Eklund made Jefferson AMAZING back in the day and he will not put them into finals becasue he taught there. He will only put them in if they deserve it. I agree with what you are saying about West Delaware becasue last year they placed right out of finals (becasue they went last, I believe anyway). They are good but not as good as some of the other competeing groups. However I believe Bemidji will make finals but I dont know how I feel about you putting them that high. They are good but judges enjoy Happiness Inc. Sometimes Bemidji's themes do not appeal to judges and they may hurt them every once in a while but Happiness usually places well. I believe Happiness will snake 3rd about them.

Blind Predictions-

Grand Champion- Urbandale "Studio 2006"
1st Runner Up- Ankeny "Visual Adrenaline"
2nd Runner Up- Bemidji "Vocalmotive"
3rd Runner Up- Cedar Rapids Kennedy "Happiness, Inc."
4th Runner Up- Cedar Rapids Prairie "The Ambassadors"
5th Runner Up- West Deleware "WD Forte"

This competition could go in a number of ways... the predictions above were formulated in a number of different feelings. I think Urbandale will win over Ankeny because they always seem so prepared for competition season (not that Ankeny isn't). I also think that if Bemidji has a show like they did in 2003 (it was awesome, and the only one I have seen of theirs')... then they will make finals and place high. If they have just a mediocre show... then they won't make the cut. I think with West Deleware's time placement that they will make finals. Their shows have improved from year to year, and they have become quite the competitive little group. Sioux City East is also reported back on the rise again... they could through their hat into finals.

I didn't put Central in because, again, from what I hear... they are having some difficulties. I think later in the season they will be big, possibly even huge... but this being their first competition, they will either make finals and get 5th Runner Up, or not make it.

Judges influence could play a part to. Some people have already said that Eklund could be an influence to Jefferson making finals and Ankeny winning. I don't know how true that is. If Jefferson really is having another down year that everyone is saying, and they make finals... well, then we'll be able to tell. But, I will put faith in Dr. Pete, that he will score because of talent, and not because of other things.

Linn Mar is going to be surprising to us all. The most surprising competition on this weekend. (Unless Buffalo Grove doesn't make finals at Onalaska )

just curious. whats julius' qualifications? i know that he graduated from lincoln was it? in 03 i believe. just wondering. in 04 i think he helped out april, but didnt actually have a spot of his own on the panel. and im not sure what he did last year.

I found this in Julius's SCC profile, so here you go:

Julius Caesar Carter is a currently a student at the University of Iowa, finishing degrees in dance and business with an emphases in entertainment and media. Mr. Carter spends a great deal of time working with choirs across the Midwest in workshops and clinics that focus on dance and performance. He has worked with award winning choirs, and his groups routinely place in the finals.
Mr. Carter is an alumnus of the Des Moines Lincoln Infinity Show Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Dina Else, and was a member of the University of Iowa Old Gold Singers Show Choir. He has performed in award winning dance companies and has toured the country as the assistant conductor for the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. He is currently a member of the University of Iowa Afro/Cuban Drum and Dance Ensemble, which tours the United States, and is heavily involved in the Department of Dance at the University of Iowa as a performer and choreographer.
Mr. Carter has appeared in the Dance Gala 2004, Martha-Ellen Tye Opera Theater Amahl and the Night Visitors, The Nutcracker, was a guest dancer for the Cedar Rapids Follies’ Mr. Bogangels, and various thesis concerts. Carter has worked with The Edge Performing Arts Centre out of Los Angeles, and San Francisco Dance, San Francisco California. He has also studied and worked under the direction of George De La Pena from the American Ballet Theatre in NYC, Deanna Carter , ballet mistress, from Aterballetto, La Scala, and Leipzig Ballet in Europe, and Alan Sener from the New York-based Louis Falco Dance Company.

Sorry that's really long. Julius is an amazing dancer and choreographer. He definitely knows what he's talking about and what he's doing.

I hope Julius does his hiphop thing before awards; that was crazy awesome last year!

Forget Julius! Who recalls the girl in the pink tank-top who taught most of it?

My point exactly!

5$ says JC and April are critique judges...

Im curious as to how things might end up it if is Jefferson and us battling for one of the last finals' spots or something of that nature with Pete Eklund on the panel.

Its also intereting that there is ONE female judge, and she is a critique judge! Im sure its nothing intentional, but the ratio at most competitions is usually a bit more mixed, could someone post who the judges were last year?

I know, I wasn't going to go down and do it, and then Derek dragged me down... *sigh* last year was awsome, just sitting with a bunch of Happiness/Protege people.

With those judges:

GC: Urbandale "Studio 2006"
1RU: Ankeny "Visual Adrenaline"
2RU: Cedar Rapids Kennedy "Happiness Inc."
3RU: Davenport Central "Central Singers Inc."
4RU: Cedar Rapids Jefferson "Westside Delegation"
5RU: Sioux City East "Headliners"

Vocals: Urbandale
Choreography: Ankeny
Band: Jefferson

REASONING!

I think Urbandale will overall have a better show than Ankeny, however I think Ankeny will stun the crowd with choreography. I've heard they are very clean choreographically. I think Urbandale will win with best vocals, with these judges. Although, I wouldn't be surprised to see Ankeny capture Best Vocals, with Pete Eklund judging. Sioux City is in there because they have the potential to be a good group this year, we'll see though. Davenport Central is supposed to be crazy good this year, so I think we'll see them in there. And regardless of whether or not they are having an off year- I don't see groups such as Bemiji and Prarie beating them- yet. This is my opinion.

Took me a second to catch that one!

So... Linn-Mar Takes place in < 2 weeks...

Thats nuts...

So much to do...

OMG!!!!!!!!! that took me WAYYYYYYYYYYY too long to get..... i feel absolutely stupid!

but i need to make new predictions.... cuz i just do

GC: Urbandale "Studio 2006"
1RU: Ankeny "Visual Adrenaline"
2RU: Cedar Rapids Kennedy "Happiness Inc."
3RU: Bemidji "Vocalmotive"
4RU: Cedar Rapids Prairie "The Ambassadors"
5RU: Davenport Central "Central Singers Inc."

Best Vocals: Ankeny "Visual Adrenaline"
Best Choreo: Urbandale "Studio 2006"
Best Band: Cedar Rapids Jefferson "Westside Delegation"

i finally hafta admit that bemidji is good even though im not a fan of the show. i had just forgotten some of their previous shows so after catching up i realize they should make finals.... i switched prairie and central because i hear central is having a bit of a tough time... although it should be really close between the two, like last year! I bumped Jefferson out because even though Pete Eklund will be judging i just dont think WSD will make finals. they are having too tough of a year. sorry WSD i love you!
