any linn-mar kids know whos hosting urbandale studio??

Haha, that's actually a weird situation. Whoever assigned rooms messed up and gave Studio to people in or prep choir, and Vitality to people in our varsity choir. So I'm not sure if they're going to switch or not. Either way, you're going to have really great hosts

To kind of solve this confusion a little bit, Linn-Mar used to sell DVD's. United Video used to sell DVD's and tapes at their competion. I have one from 2002 for sure. I am not sure if they sold them in 2003 (I don't think they did) but I know they haven't in either 2004 or 2005. As to whether or not they are doing them this sure I am not posetive but they haven't for at leat two years because it was too expensive. So yea thats all I know and that should solve the problem as to why some people have some Linn-Mar tapes and DVD's form the past.

Anywho I am reall excited for this competion can't wait until Saturday. It is going to rock. 4 days!

I'll just say...

"What a difference a year makes."

Groups change... we'll see who changes this year. For the better... or for the worse.

im going to hafta agree with you on this one. Kennedy lost so many seniors... I think the returning count was either 11 or 13.... this is a fairly young group. their show was mostly vocals last year and I'm in the opinion that they do not have as strong of vocals as last year. Yes, Linn-Mar judges tend to favor them, but I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they didnt get Top 3. I fully expect them to make finals, though. This is going to be an extremely tight competition. I cannot wait to see results!

We tape our own competitions, so I don't know how you would have one. To my knowledge, we do not offer DVD's for sale, and like Mr. Temple said, we give them only to directors.

We had our hosting meeting today, and we all went out and bought our room decorations. I'm so excited!

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that Linn-Mar has offered DVDs/videos of their competition in the past? They video tape if for critique purposes and give a copy to each participating school, but I don't remember ever seeing a place where they were selling videos.

I'm pretty sure they do... I have one of finals from 2003 I think. I don't remember the company (sorry!) because a) I lent out the tape to someone in TX and never got it back while I made a transfer to DVD for my own use, I never wrote down the name of the company. It was an OK quality I guess... the only real problem is that it's such an early competition, I'd just as soon get my favorite groups at a contest later on in the season when the performances are generally stronger.

I agree With Him Y'all, Dr. Ecklund has worked to get where he is and he doesnt deserve to be critizied, he will do the right thing, and score how he should score. Keep those comments to your self thats where they belong.

im Excited for this comp. in less than a week this is going to be awesome. My Last year and im going out with a bang C'yall there

I read that post and finally realized that they were in response to my comment, I in no way intended to trivialize Dr. Ecklund's credibility as an adjucator, I was merely making reference to the mid-nineties strong rivalry between Mr. Ecklund's Westside Delegation and Mrs. Keeler's Headliners, at the time, those were VERY strong programs and the two would go head to head in both All-State and Show Choir, so keeping that in mind, he knows the precedent of both groups quite well and wouldnt give ANY group a free ticket to finals. I am positive he will use his full expertise to pick the groups that belong in finals, whoever they might be.

While agree that having Dr. Ecklund on the judging panel could raise some questions, I don't think its fair or professional to discuss his integrity on public boards. In my peronal opinion those types of statements should be kept to yourself or in pm's. Anywho good luck to all the groups in attendence. Kinda bummed that im gonna miss finals, but it should be a good comp. anyway.

Why Wisconsin? They are from Minnesota.

What I ment, is it seems like they have a flashier show than most Iowa groups do. And why i put WI, i have no idea... maybe the remind me of some Wisconsin groups, but I knew they were from Minnesota.

And the flashy parts of their show may come off different here than they do other places. But different can always be a good thing too. Hopefully that explains that better to ya

I was thinking about it the other day... i feel like Bemidji's shows are directed more twords Wisonsin Comps.. i may just be talking out of my butt, but that is what I feel, i feel there is a difference in prefrence at WI comps... so yeah... no offence to them because i loved their show last year.

Good insight Jorge (even though you knocked us out of there). And totally true Pete Eklund made Jefferson AMAZING back in the day and he will not put them into finals becasue he taught there. He will only put them in if they deserve it. I agree with what you are saying about West Delaware becasue last year they placed right out of finals (becasue they went last, I believe anyway). They are good but not as good as some of the other competeing groups. However I believe Bemidji will make finals but I dont know how I feel about you putting them that high. They are good but judges enjoy Happiness Inc. Sometimes Bemidji's themes do not appeal to judges and they may hurt them every once in a while but Happiness usually places well. I believe Happiness will snake 3rd about them.

I'll just say...

"What a difference a year makes."
