From gmboilers1 profile....

(Old) Minstrel Almnus, proud parent of 2 outstanding recent minstrel alumni, UNCLE OF 23 more CURRENT minstrels, and the biggest non-parent fan of the whole super awesome group! Obviously not a student anymore tho...

Okay gmboilers1, your telling me that 23 current minstrels are cousins?!?! I really don't want to know what is going on in that choir program...I'm a little creeped out right now

I wanted to add that I have seen in person 6 of the 10 large group choirs so far this year, and the other four I haven't seen have top reputations. With only 5 choirs making the finals, no choir is a shoe in. I think every one of the large choirs are used to making finals, and that doesn't even count the small group choirs, which believe me, I am not overlooking!!

If you love show choir, what a great competition this should be!

Good luck to all the choirs. I understand this is an ISSMA qualifier.

...and after how Warren Central placed last week at their contest, I'm going to go ahead and predict that Pike will take this spot.

Warren - Another group I haven't seen, They always sing well, I hope this year is no exception....

I wouldn't base how Warren will do off of last week. Their scores were CRAZY!! haha. Years of being one of the best vocal choirs around... they were placed DEAD LAST vocally. Which was more off than words can explain... I had them at 2nd. Then visually they were scored 3rd (which I had them at 6th). I didn't like the scoring at all.

But who knows. Should be a great competition!!

I don't quite understand why everyone has luers for winning visuals...I can see them winning vocals but come on...

Here's my predictions:: a little bold

GC: North Central Counterpoints
1RU: Pike Encores
2RU: Bishop Luers Minstrels
3RU: Franklin Central FC Singers
4RU: Dekalb Classic Connection/Warren Central

Vocals: North Central
Choreography: Luers
Band: North Central

Luers will not get best choreography because that is actually their weakness. Their strength is their vocals, including the best ballad I've ever heard. (and I've seen WV 2008,9,10, WW 2008,9,10, Xavier 2009, JBHS 2008, and Totino 2010.) If the score-sheet favors vocals Luers could win this.

GC: Franklin Central
1RU: North Central
2RU: Dekalb
3RU: Bishop Luers

North Central: the only reason i have franklin ahead is because this isnt their first time competing.

Dekalb: from what i have heard you guys have gotten 100x better since i last saw you at Northrup. you guys are incredible at dancing but i think your energy is lacking. but if you guys give a great performance you could easily route out BL.

Bishop Luers: lets start by saying how great you guys sing! HOLY CRAP! but im just not a believer. i saw both you and FC at northrup and i was shocked that you guys beat them. i think you guys will have a lot of difficulty with judges in indy cuz of your choreo.

FC: i love your show! by far the best show i have seen all yr but im worried you are peaking. if you guys bring it you could easly be waring a medal. after your win at Pike you guys proved me wrong about your singing. But i wouldnt b suprised i u guys get caught in finals by NC.

Here's my predictions:: a little bold

GC: North Central Counterpoints
1RU: Pike Encores
2RU: Bishop Luers Minstrels
3RU: Franklin Central FC Singers
4RU: Dekalb Classic Connection/Warren Central

Vocals: North Central
Choreography: Luers
Band: North Central

North Central: Enough said
Pike: I'm kinda goin off last year with how they did at their competitions, plus I know they are capable of amazing things.
Luers: This choir has been kicking ass all year and they deserve to get top 3 at this tough of a competition. Plus they already beat FC and Dekalb at Northrop this year.
Franklin Central: Again, going off of northrops finishes and how they have done in past years.
Dekalb/Warren Central: This one is a toss up because yes, we all know dekalb is good, but this year is in a sense a little bit of a rebuilding year for them, and they are not necessarily as strong as past years. Warren Central could also take this spot because they have placed decently at this competition before as well. Should be interesting!

now that it's later in the season...i'm feeling:

Mixed

GC : North Central "Counterpoints"
1RU: Franklin Central "F.C. Singers" / Dekalb "Classic Connection"
2RU: Dekalb "Classic Connection" / Franklin Central "F.C. Singers"
3RU: Bishop Luers "The Minstrels"
4RU: Pike "Encores"
*Carroll could slip into that 5th spot, depending on if they keep improving the way they have been..

Vocals: North Central "Counterpoints"
Visuals: Dekalb "Classic Connection"
General Effect: Franklin Central "F.C. Singers / Dekalb "Classic Connection"
Band: Franklin Central "F.C. Singers"

North Central - Enough Said, without a doubt the best singing school in the state, and probably the country...the thing that might hurt NC is the lack of experience the other groups have at this point in the season. They should win, but an upset isn't out of the question.

Franklin Central - Haven't seen them, but heard they are great, I assume they look as good as they do any other year. FC always has such a mature sound and a classy show. FC is consistently one of the top choirs in the nation, and I doubt this year will be any exception! They came so close last year, and I would love to see them give NC a good run for the GC spot this year.

Dekalb - Definitely the best dancing group at this contest. I know they were bested by FC earlier, but I feel like since they've had 2 weeks to improve their sound, they'll be back at normal Dekalb level which usually means they're another one of the top groups in the country, another group that could give NC a run for their money....plus Dekalb has done very well here the past 2 years, so just a guess...

Bishop Luers - Luers started very well this year! They are incredible....but I feel like now the other schools have had the time to catch up, and bring their shows around to the level that Luers is at. I have a feeling that this groups just "peaked" early, but I could be wrong and I hope I am. Good Luck I hope you do very well and give the groups hear a good scare....I just feel like this will be a "good old boys" competition...

Pike - Haven't seen this group, but after last year, they should be pretty good...and after how Warren Central placed last week at their contest, I'm going to go ahead and predict that Pike will take this spot.

Warren - Another group I haven't seen, They always sing well, I hope this year is no exception.

Carroll - Not the Carroll that people are used to seeing this year, they have a very full...and in my opinion, sometimes overly loud sound... Their intonation is excellent, and song selection is fun, even though the costumes are...interesting. If they have a good show, they could surprise and slip into that last finals spot.

Ladies - don't know as much about these groups but i'll take a shot at it...

GC : North Central "Descants"
1RU: Dekalb "Sound Sensation"
2RU: Carroll "Select Sound"
3RU: Lafayette Jefferson "Expressions"

Vocals: North Central "Descants"
Visuals: North Central "Descants"
General Effect: North Central "Descants"
Band: North Central "Descants"

North Central - should easily handle this division. Descants are always amazing, and i just don't think the other ladies groups will have anything on them.

Dekalb - I know they beat FC at Northrop, so just a guess...

Carroll - I believe they won at Dekalb this past weekend, but I could be wrong about that...

Lafayette Jefferson - I can't say I've ever seen this group, but if it's anything like LJ's mixed group, this seems appropriate...

The list of competitors at this event is amazing. Based on reputation only (I haven't seen a bunch of these groups yet this year), it's going to be a real feat to get to the night show, and a lot of great choirs won't make it. So everybody bring their "A" game (show?) during the day show! It should be fun.

Good luck to everyone....

You might want to include Bishop Luers in your predictions. They were Grand Champs at Findley this year and also Grand Champs at Northrop this past weekend beating both Franklin Central and DeKalb. This is going to be a great competition and hopefully there will be some surprises!

1RU: Franklin Central

GC: North Central "Counterpoints"... I'ts North Central, enough said...
1RU: Dekalb "Classic Connection"... Traditionally, Dekalb has done very well at this contest, they might
be a shocker...
2RU: Franklin Central "F.C. Singers"...Very consistent and excellent choir, should do very well...
3RU: Warren Central "Connection"...They always sound very full, but their lack of movement might
hurt them...
4RU: Pike "Encores"... Could very easily place better, but I wonder if they'll have the momentum that
they did last season...

Vocals: North Central "Counterpoints"
Visuals: Dekalb "Classic Connection"

Ladies

GC:Franklin Central "High Voltage"...Class A state champions last year, just guessing they will be
great again this year...
1RU:North Central "Descants"....Could very easily take 1st. Always one of the best ladies groups
in the state. Powerhouse sound, and clean choreography.
2RU:Dekalb "Sound Sensation"....Another consistently excellent and entertaining IN ladies group,
but usually aren't quite as solid as NC, which is still impressive.
3RU:Jefferson"Expressions"...Just a guess...

Vocals:Franklin Central "High Voltage"
Choreography: North Central "Descants"
