Just some quick random thoughts on yesterday's competition...

The acoustics of that theater were simply phenomenal. Slight microphone issues or random technical glitches aside, I don't think I've ever heard any of these choirs sound so good. Balance with the band was great, the slight hint of reverb on the solo mics really warmed up the tone of the singers, and all of the groups sounded full and clean. I was weary of the venue because of its smaller capacity (and limited audience size as a result), but after having the pleasure of finally hearing these choirs the way I feel they were meant to be heard, I can't say anything but good words. I would take this over Citrus any day of the week.

Several groups have really improved since the last I saw them, and overall I think most choirs were at the top of their game. Chula, you guys really impressed me and your effort shows in spades. I can never predict these placements but just because you didn't leave with a trophy doesn't mean you should feel down. I had a great time watching your show.

Hart - wow, your acapella was amazing. There are times when I'm sitting in the audience and I wish I could pay for a professional studio session with each choir so that we can preserve some of this amazing talent for years to come in pristine quality. This song is definitely one of those I would want in my collection.

Burbank, you already know how unbelievable you are but even you guys have really improved since the beginning of the year. Your male sound has become as mature and developed as your amazing women and at this point I honestly think you could stand up to any group in the country. Sometimes when it clicks, it just clicks...

Burroughs, you are the most wonderful people and I really thank you for always welcoming me into your home with such open arms. There isn't much secret that I've had 'Burroughs envy' since the first time I saw your choir eons ago. There's just something magical in that Burbank water I guess! The new number is fantastic (I was raving about it to Jen after Pop Show) and like Chula, I think you deserved a much higher placement. But that's how these crazy things go, I suppose. Leatrice, you sounded spectacular last night.

Bonita, I am so proud of you and I know that it's tough to perform your hearts out week after week and come home with little in hardware to show for it, but there's no question that this was your best show yet and I will always be out there rooting for you. Live the music, cherish your friends. That's what this whole thing is all about. Every single one of you really has an impact on my life.

Shane - it was really great to get to know you better and thanks for being such a great host. You really made the evening fun (and those were the best goodie bags ever!!) " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> To the rest of the SoCal show choir circuit, thank you for being so positive and amazing people. I've seen more inter-choir friendships this year than ever before, and it really feels to me like there has been a lot less emphasis on "winning," and more on celebrating each other's music and enjoying the time we have to spend with each other. There is nothing like a great SoCal lineup, and every single one of you make it what it is.

This has been a great year so far; congrats to everyone and I'll see ya at the next one!

oh btw.
you can`t "tie"
and get different places. =]
nancy`s coooool. hahah.

uhh. how long have you been in choir for? a tie is very possible, whether or not you meant to specify (which you should've), ties ARE possible! Since the music was tied, the higher in show took the "bigger" trophy and plausible bragging rights. no offense, but i speak for most the people in the advanced mixed division trying to skim through every page for their results and discussion, while bombarded by perpetual bickering (that goes nowhere since no one can set their facts straight): when it hits around our time of the competition, no one really does care about what happened earlier.

THE PLACEMENTS WERE CLEARLY UNIQUE THIS TIME AROUND, but congrats to all who placed, nonetheless!

i loved our hosts. i had a really great time at los al with all personal things considered. thank you los al (staff, students, and boosters) for making this all possible!!! thank you to our hosts again; we inarguably had the best goody bags last night. JUICE BOXES, STARBURST, SKITTLES, GLOW STICKS, AND DONUTS. sheeeshh. thank you! thank you! thank you!

you have no right to degrate them like that. they did amazing and just because burbank/burroughs/hart didnt place first for once....doesnt mean u can go and talk down to choirs that did a really good job. did u ever stop to think maybe those choirs didnt have a good show that day and brea did? no because ur too busy thinking that the schools who usually get first were "robbed" even though brea is AMAZING

uhhh.uhhh. okay i just can't pass this by and not say something. did you ever stop to notice that burbank pretty much describes flawless? or, that burroughs is truly a powerhouse? how about, that harts show overall is spectacular? maybe its because i have close companions in these choirs, and im not gonna lie, but what logic does your post have? okay, brea is amazing...but is burbank, burroughs, and hart isn't? im pretty sure all of these choirs have in recent years placed more than once on the national level (and we're not just talking about showstoppers and fame). im not arguing the placements, im arguing how you can even begin to ask if we noticed if they had a good show or not. brea gave an amazing show, but the choirs that you listed (as represented by a significant maorit reaction) did NOT have an off night and clearly during the awards ceremony a great majority of occupants in the theatre had mixed feelings about how things went, not just for themselves but for eachother. i dont think anyone used "robbed" or was even looking for anyting close to that definition, but rather that the schools who usually place 1st 2nd 3rd - consistently, past and present, weren't given the right placements. it's a slap in the face.
perhaps im blowing this way out of proportion but i dont believe i am. congrats to brea, arcadia, burbank, burroughs, and hart for your entertainment and for placing. congrats to all of the other choirs who made the competition worthwhile, and the placements worth less (if it's necessary). big wheels keep on turning, so dont stop believin, just knock on wood, and sail away with self gratification and a hopeful next competition.

an extra extended thank you to the patricks: your hard work and dedication in making last night as fun-filled and welcoming on a personal student - to- student level very possible.

thank you! thank you! thank you!

To Burbank Sound Dogs, OOTB and Impressions, WAY TO GO!! To In Sync, I know you would've like a different outcome, but you're in the midst of an incredible year. Just realize that not every day is gonna be that perfect day, clean what needs cleaned, and come back stronger than ever. I know you will! Sapphire ladies, keep working and come on strong next time. I'm proud of all of you! God Bless, Damon Brown

basically you kids wasted 2 and a half pages writing absolutely nothing important. Nobody cares what place your choir got, we don't even know where you came from.

What is significant is the placements that the advance mixed groups just got.
1st - Brea
2nd - Arcadia
3rd- Burbank
4th- Burroughs
5th- Hart
only words to explain this = what in the heck?
Don't worry burbank burroughs and hart, go to the top three from each state forum and you are the only ones named representing California. Burbank just proved that a few weeks ago by beating extremely stiff competition in the midwest ( motherland of show choir ) and im sure Burroughs will prove that soon enough. This reminds me of a certain competition last year that everyone was totally confused with the placements...

Sorry but this is a ridiculous outcome.

(sorry for any spelling errors , im on a sidekick :-D )

WOW! two things....
1- that was completely rude! "nobody cares..."
im sorry were not in the advanced division and we havent really placed for the last couple of years so no one heard of us really till now. but you dont have to say no one cares about us
2- OMG! Brea has an amazing show! when i read the forum about the top 3 choirs i couldnt believe brea wasnt named because thats one of the first school i think of. you have no right to degrate them like that. they did amazing and just because burbank/burroughs/hart didnt place first for once....doesnt mean u can go and talk down to choirs that did a really good job. did u ever stop to think maybe those choirs didnt have a good show that day and brea did? no because ur too busy thinking that the schools who usually get first were "robbed" even though brea is AMAZING

At the end of the night... i was really freakin' confused but here's my overall impression:

B.Bank: It's really apparent how you just swept Indiana or wherever it was. Couldn't spot a single choreographical/musical mistake. perfect to be exact and i feel it was ill-rewarded. Congrats on best closer btw.

Burroughs: So much energy... it was freakin bursting at the seams. It was reaaaaallly fun to watch... as long as you have sunglasses. lol jk. But the closer i always love *chills*.

Arcadia: Fantastic everything vocal. I was like... was that like one person singing? because you were all so on it like a summer-time bonnet. You shocked us all with your supprising 2nd place congrats!

Brea Oli: Didn't actually see them but they must have pleased the judges.

Hart-izzle: I had alot of fun up there and despite the outcome it was one of the most performances i've been a part of.

Chula: i just love the "leaves" effect in shadowlands. Ha and you're amazing. yeah that too. lol.

Los al: niiiiicccce video. lol. *panels panels panels* BAM *man in underware* nice.

Overall i thought it was a great experience no matter how confusing the outcome was. Though i was looking over the sheets on our bus ride home and i was sort of confused as to how the scores ended up that way but whatev.

Lata choir kids!

i was talking with one of my friends on the bus ride to los al and he was saying how he loves this time of the competition season because everyone really improves really fast. by the end of the night, regardless of rankings, this was absolutely true for every group that i was able to see.

powerhouse: you guys had sooooooo much more energy and excitement. it was such a pleasure to just sit back and enjoy the show. i love the new song. go shana!

main attraction: all of us were absolutely blown away by your improvement. your vocals blended beautifully. i also noticed that every person was putting a lot more effort into choreography, but you all were still as amazingly clean as you have been this season.

sound vibes: tonight i took note of how connected you guys are to your music and whatever song you were singing. whether it be your a capella or your spicy latin number, it was awesome to see that in you guys.

and of course masquerade: you all came out looking incredibly confident and that stayed with the entire show. it sure paid off! awesome job tonight. and man... you guys can scream really loud when you're excited; those of us sitting directly in front of you can definitely attest to that. haha. congrats

i didnt get to see diamond bar, bonita, or arcadia, but hats off to you guys for what im sure were great performances as well!

Well with the 2-3 pages wasted between bickering over who got 2nd in the intermediate division and probably more to come from them as well as the outcome from the advanced division, I'm gonna venture a guess that this topic will reach... I don't know.... say 27 pages? ;)

tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk

sometimes i wish i never wrote that comment

and by the way a trophy is just a piece of plastic and like 3 pieces of metal that supposed to make you feel better about your self

when you look at the scores you see that both rancho verde and rowland tied for 2nd

the director of los alamitos also said that there was a tie for 2nd in this division

they just gave us the third place trophy because you scored higher than us in musicianship but we scored higher than you guys in showmanship.

but what do i care all i know is that both of our groups kicked butt last night and had the best times of our lives

but if it makes you guys feel better about yourselves you guys got the 2nd place trophy and we got the 3rd for you guys who actually care what they got.

SO IM ENDING THIS TOPIC NOW!!!!!!

and on a second note congrats to brea for winning first in the advance mixed

4 - Burroughs

WOW!! I'm actually sad I missed this now. Really. o_O I just woke up briefly to read this, and I can't really believe my eyes. i don't think the rude words from the post below this one I've quoted were necessary about this outcome, but it is suprising!
