LOL "risers dont do anything except elevate people to create levels so everyone is seen" r u kidding me? come on, everyone knows that risers are also used so the people with better voices can dance less intensely and project their voices better...espicially into the overhead mics...and about our boxes, they are between 2-3 feet high... u r telling me people otherwise would have been 6 feet tall is around 8 feet on the boxes and that is not that much of a difference?

to jbhsvmasoundwave...u wanna know whats sooooooooooo funny? i dont hear ANYTHING about soundwaves...good or BAD " border="0" alt="zipped.gif" />

also about the risers... wat you say is true for some choirs but not all choirs

in some choirs, the people on the risers dance just as much as the people on the floor

you are a hypocrit by saying that last statement.
AND, what show choir dress isnt similar in some way or another?
I'm almost pretty sure you're refering to burbank copying last years Powerhouse dresses. If thats the case, get over it.

Bro, she's just stating that Arcadia doesn't traditionally go for a gospelly sound when performing. Mind you, their voices are amazing, but it's just not their style. And in regards to your rudeness and overall crass demeanor, get over it...

wow some of the people on here are being a bit rude

who ever that person is that is bringing down burroughs should just stop...

yea maybe you had your time to shine for arcadia but this is a new year

and frankly going into a new year especially with a new director isnt an

easy task to take up... oh and about the risers... YOU SHOULDNT BE LOOKING

at the risers anyways. you should be focusing on who is on stage and the costumes

the risers dont do anything except elevate people to creat levels so everyone is seen

with boxes even when you stand on them your pretty much the same height

so it doesnt make a difference. so anywhoo im not trying to argue i just thought that

was really mean to put up i dont know if anyone knows this but i was told this

a lot as a child (if you dont have anything nice to say dont say it at all!)
BURROUGHS im sorry someone came on here & said some rude comments

personally i think you guys did really well like you always do

Let's keep all our negative comments to ourselves, or at the very least, just talk about it with your close friends where you won't offend others. No need to start spewing insults...this isn't the presidential election ya'll. There are so many talented choirs in California, and simply placing in the top 4 is quite a task in itself. Give credit where credit is due.

I'd like to also say that Show choir community is not a place to put down other groups.
To Neil Tandon..I don't think you have really listened to gospel music..It's nothing like the vocals you might have experinced in your years at arcadia..

You know what is sooooo funny? I was siting around a group of people, and heard other groups of people, say Arcadia did NOT deserve 1st place. The comments I heard were, they were ok, I have seen better, they did not WOW me, you could not hear them, plus a few more. I am not one to say Burroughs is always the best and always number 1, but Arcadia did not deserve 1st. I was just not impressed. Oh...the best comment I heard about Arcadia was they really belonged in the intermediate division. " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

If I understand this post correctly, I think that the only logical deduction that can be made is, well... that you were beaten by an intermediate choir. Congratulations!

"Ok, what is a Shadowland???

Also is there a specific theme of songs that everyone had to do at this comp?"

SHadowland is the name of a song from The Lion King. It happened to be done about 3 times from different groups at this competition. And there is no theme for competitions, its just performing your groups set, no specific theme.

All the groups were great and entertaining. I enjoyed it.
I <3 BURBANK!
To the groups getting bashed on, i thought you did great *cough *cough John Burroughs! ;) I LIKED IT, (especially the closer, after hearing the real version i luved your version)....as well as everyone elses performances you all did great.

To those that say risers are so great; that groups are flawed because they do not use them:
In my opinion, most groups with risers (not all) have risers with no decorations, and thus they are an eyesore to me and many others not associated with show choir at all. People in show choir that see them everyday and especially those that use them are brainwashed into believing they look great. The effect they give on stage is hardly greater than the blocky-ness and, in my own words, *an* “elementary-school-glee-club” style *look*. I hope so much that choir*s* move away from risers that are disturbingly bland and either go back to cool looking boxes or, another and more time consuming option, spruce up your risers into cool looking raised roman coliseum steps or a mountainside cliff - I don't know. What I am trying to say is that when I see people talking about how other groups "need or should have" risers, I laugh to my self on how retarded that sounds.

To Arcadia:
Your first song has a great soloist and your group vocals are fantastic. When the guys are singing by themselves it sounds great - like real men. Your choreography is cool, however, for the entire song you guys just stand in one place. You never move more than two feet from your initials spots. But you know what... that is the way all the other groups are too so I just might be surprised because it is just that this might be the first time I have seen Arcadia do it. Your A Capella was fantastic. I think tenors were a tad bit off key. To those that say you had major vibrato: I did not hear it and that must mean either I was not listening (which I definitely was since you are my Alma Mater) or that you were not really doing it enough for it to be disturbingly noticeable. I will put my money on the latter. I think what I enjoyed most was the greatness of your closing number. It was fantastic! The dancing was great. The vocals were better than anyone else. Even the “box people” did awesome. Therefore, in the end, you disserved what you guys got and I would be surprised if you did not get first at every competition considering how all the other groups did last night.

To Burroughs:
I am so happy you opened with the Muse! I think you should have gotten second just for that. However, you guys have awful vocals and your soloists must have been super nervous or really out of breath (it was the first song though...hrmmmm). Very good bass parts on the A Capella. Nevertheless, the last half of the song was a mish-mash of notes that was not pleasant for me. You have a good dynamic range but what it did not include was dynamic flow, and by that I mean your progression from softs to louds was poor. Your closer is just a bunch of YELLING and out of tune yelling, at that. Anyway good job and I hope to see those problems fixed by the next competition.

More to come later...

Fun competition. I left before the awards and got there after Burbank. I was upset not to see them.

Arcadia, I have to say, even not seeing Burbank I believe you deserved first. Your guys are very nice sounding and the ladies have AMAZING vocals. Listening to some of the songs I was thinking just how good the girls sound compared to other years. Your second number, I thought was sung perfectly, maybe a little more dynamic contrast but theres one part where I think the alto's have a solo and everyone else is oooing, but they weren't drowned out, and you could still hear each note. It was well done.
Great job and nice outfits for your costume change...your choreography was clean too. Dang near perfect, I suspect you've been working on this stuff since September...

Burbank, I'm upset enough congratulations of 2nd. I heard you and AQUARIUS. I was very sad not to see it but, you sounded nice.

Burroughs, I really shouldn't judge you on this comp. It's your (not to be mean) but, "half-assed" set " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> ... No, there was nothing Half Assed about your performance. Agina, who I thought was a senior last year sang her best yet for Shadowland. Your opener was artsy... and your ballad sounded hard, I'll have to listen to it again, as soon as I finsh uploading it to youtube. But your closer, I LOVED IT...Not because of Jesus, but because its the first group in socal I've heard sing a gospel esque song and sound....not....WHITE. I understand you took runner up last year against a group that had a gospel type sound, I think it would be fun to see you compete against that group again. The sounds I heard up there weren't your typical Burroughs. I'm just impressed with that closer, it sounded gospel but not muddy, clean and powerful sound and I congratulate you.

El Rancho, you remind me of my group at our first competition. A good show with lots of potential, not to mention we sang the same arrangement of shadowland. Almost the same costumes too. Sorry you didn't place but I think you'll place later in the season. Your wedding song made me laugh, thank you.

Brea, since its a different director than the old Brea, I have to commend the director. It had to be the most entertaining Willert show yet. Big improvement from last years group.

Serrano, I have to say. I really enjoyed you this year. I wasn't bored with any of your songs, except your closer. I'm sorry. You go from Thriller to Jesus, I understand its part of the set, but still, the weakest song, and you could have gone without. NONE THE LESS, Your opener was strong and I was VERY surprised with your sound in the beginning, you sounded totally different than previous years, just needed a little volume. Your ballad was the only ballad I REALLY wasn't bored with, It was different, and it hasn't been done before, I like the song too. I think thats where you lost most of your music points, from the quartet to the group going on stage, it's a hard ballad to keep together, IT DIDN'T sound bad all the way through, just the beginning...the rest was actually very well done. Zero to hero was entertaining, but the mics kill me at Aztec, good for nothing. THRILLER, I was laughing and excited and my eyes got teary seeing this song. It really was good, EVERY person on that stage had me convinced they were zombies. It was a perfect entrance to that song, the speaker was good to, but again the mics killed. The solos too. The singing for the group needed volume, and there was some cleaning up in the moves, but I really liked the way it was choreographed, and the costumes were outrageous. Props to the dead purple sequin girl. P.S. the people crawling on the stage scared the crap out of me, they were amazing.
OH...ONE MORE THING. I SWEAR!!! Where you even wearing shoes in the closer??? ::laughs::

~MY TROPHIES~

Most entertaining song- Serrano - Thriller.
Best Solo - Shadowland, Burroughs. Agina ( I hope I spelled that right )
Best A Capella - Arcadia
Most Improved- Serrano
Best Vocals - Arcadia
Best Moves - Burroughs
Best SHOW - Brea
Best WIGS - Brea
Best Sequins - Nobody likes them anymore...But El Rancho had the BRIGHTEST.
Best Shadowland - Burroughs, it just sounds better.
Loudest set up- Burroughs!!! Ithink the mics were on.
My FAVORITE GROUP OF THE NIGHT- Serrano, Vocal Point.
