Day results

1st: Waukee "Millennium"
2nd: Ankeny Centennial "Spectrum"
3rd: Valley "Choralation"
4th: Mitchell "Friend de Coup"

Best Male Soloist: Valley "Choralation"
Best Female Soloists (duet) Valley "Ignition" (wow)
Best Band: Valley "Choralation"
Best Male Performer: Valley "Choralation" (their drummer)

Can anyone verify if they had a specific best band performer caption or if this was the only one? My contacts are all busy getting ready for finals

Just got a frantic call from my sister who's in ignition. Sorry I don't have full results but sounds like Valley Ignition is in finals! Wow!

Will there be a live feed? My current ailment might keep me from going anywhere this weekend.

Here's an opinion from someone who was at Roosevelt all day! First of all I saw both Mitchell and sioux city twice that day. From prelims alone: Mitchell definitely had better more consistent vocals through out while sioux city sang well for a close second. From finals: Mitchell sang about the same as they did during the day which was still very well. Sioux City on the other hand made a HUGE leap from the morning and sang beautifully. They fully deserved the best vocals. BUT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT MITCHELL. They can have their show for a month and still be amazing. So I am 100% sure they will be much better in every possible way by this weekend. They are singing very well and I fully expect them to blow some judges away because they improve so rapidly it leaves me speechless.

Bless

1) I had friends that went to Roosevelt that day and I was asking them how the competition went and they said that Mitchell deserved a clean sweep and they were very surprised that East took vocals. I personally was not there and I have no idea how their vocals were. I simply said that Sioux City getting best vocals was shocking because none of my friends (all show choir lovers and supporters) thought that would happen. I wasn't dissing Sioux City East at all actually. I was simply reporting what I heard so don't get all offensive.
2) My loose understanding of what you just said is that Roosevelt wasn't a competitive competition and Mitchell has never had outstanding vocals. Now you're offending Roosevelt who had a very competitive competition obviously and Mitchell year-in and year-out has some of the best vocals in the country so I don't know what you are trying to say.
3) I've never said anything to destroy a group or hurt their feelings. I'm a conversation starter-- the point of this website.

Oh, I guess I had a faulty interpretation of what you were saying then. Also, I was saying Roosevelt was not, comparatively, competitive to Urbandale. Waukee, Ankeny C, Valley…all would probably be said to be tougher competition…at least I assume that that is the general disposition

Also-- will stephen todd judge finals? If so-- Mitchell will be in finals... is that unfair?

No, he won't.

Honestly Mitchell, Ankeny Centennial and Waukee are so amazing and it could go ANY way.

My guess:

GC- Waukee (BV)
1RU- Ankeny Centennial (BC)
2RU- Mitchell (BB)
3RU- Valley
4RU- Ankeny
5RU- SE Polk

Literally though-- anyone of the top three could win... I think the two Iowa schools will come out on top though because Mitchell isn't a "traditional Iowa choir sound" and I think that's why the judges favored East over Mitchell at Roosevelt because most of the judges were from Iowa.

You might know, is it true they learn their show over Winter Break? If so, it's insane they put that out in January. It doesn't leave much time to work out kinks.

We used to learn all of the choreography and most of our vocals during winter break and then travel to Onalaska the second or third weekend of January. It might have changed since then.

Yup. I have no idea how they do it. They just have so many people that are 100% commuted to their show. That includes everyone NOT onstage. Directors/choreographer/tech. So many great things happening in their program

I also have zero doubt that Mitchell will get best chero. Hands down no competition. Their choreography is flawless. I'm not putting anyone down I'm just saying that it is out of this world ( ba dum pish) haha I made a funny.

Yes. I remember the first time I saw them, I was blown away by all of the show choir parents, both moms and dads, who had traveled to support them and who were helping set up the stage before they performed. Definitely cool to see.

I think Mitchell will win this one. Their shows aren't always my favorite for some reason, but there's no denying that they are a fantastic show choir.

I honestly can see this competition going so many ways and most of it will probably come down to personal preference. I would not want to be a judge at this competition with this hard of task. However, I will throw out some predictions cause I always love being wrong

Predictions:
GC: Waukee (BV, BB)
1RU: Mitchell (BC)
2RU: Ankeny Centennial
3RU: Valley
4RU: Ankeny
5RU: SE Polk

I can see any of the top 3 switching around as well as BC going to Ankeny Centennial or BB going to Mitchell

Anyway, this competition is STACKED. Here are my updated predictions:

GC: Waukee (BV)
1RU: Mitchell (BC)
2RU: Ankeny Centennial Spectrum (BB)
3RU: Ankeny Visual Adrenaline
4RU: Valley
5RU: Lewis Central
