"Showquaah, Just wondering, You dont like Damon do you?"

Nope, I don't. I was in a Damon group in high school, and performed his poorly put together shows and lame choreography for years. It's nothing against Beavercreek- you guys are always a great group who sings very well; but from an unbiased spectator perspective, your show designs aren't nearly as cool as they were back in the day. When I sit and watch his groups, it just looks like a bunch of random moves that make no sense together... for example, Beavercreek was doing the same moves in "You're Timeless To Me" that Franklin Central was doing last year in a Michael Jackson song from the 80s- come on now! You guys do well with what he gives you, but I'll never understand why your director hired him in the first place. Much love to Bcreek- I wish you nothing but the best this year!

You lady's did a great job! I know the explosion during your opener was a little freaky and scary. I was freaked out and scary. But way to recover and go on with the show!!! EXTREMLY professional. You guys did a great job!!!

Overall: Alot of the choirs could of given a louder fuller sound. The bands could of played louder. I know the acustic i gyms aren't that good. But everyone did an amazing job!!! And Congradulations to everyone!!!!

Here's my thoughts about the finals at Southmont...

Crete-Monee- This group just keeps getting better and better each year. There are a lot of nice things happening here, both vocally and visually. Crete has a certain flair onstage that makes them really enjoyable to watch, and I would agree that they should have placed a little higher.

Mooresville- it looks like things are taking a turn for the better at Mooresville this year. They sang beautifully, and the show was much better than those of the past couple years. The closer was a little on the slow side, but I assume you're changing it for the spring as usual. The ballad was great!

Beavercreek- better than last week, but still in need of a lot of improvement. The show feels like a bunch of pieces that don't quite fit together- a typical Damon show. Beavercreek could do well this spring, but I'm afraid their show will hold them back.

DeKalb- just about as good as you could expect for so early in the year... they were the obvious winner. The group sang better than it has in several years (awesome ballad), and the choreo was energetic and extremely clean. DeKalb looks like they are going to have an amazing year. "Everything Old Is New Again" was hilarious!

Teays Valley- you guys are one of my two or three very favorite groups... but I just wasn't feeling it at Southmont. It didn't feel like you were ready for this contest. There is a lot of good singing, but the sopranos need to get themselves under control in a few places. Your ballad was very expressive and pretty, as always. Everything after your ballad felt frantic. I didn't feel like the Billy Joel stuff worked that well... overall, it was a strong show, but just not up to Teays' usual standard.

Franklin Central- this group has so much poise and presence onstage. I liked the first costumes a lot. The show was very high-energy. The singing, however, seems like a very secondary concern. It's not particularly pretty, and I honestly hardly understood a single word of your show. The ballad soloist was really good. I didn't think "The Jam" worked very well as a closer... seems like another dumb Damon idea. It doesn't have enough "zing" to end your energetic show. The hairpieces and skirts falling off happened so much it was comical. Really though, you were very strong, and I think you'll have another great year this year.

If I was a judge, I'd have gone...

Grand Champion- DeKalb (best vocals, best choreography)
1st runner up- Teays Valley
2nd runner up- Crete-Monee
3rd runner up- Mooresville
4th runner up- Franklin Central
5th runner up- Beavercreek

Just my thoughts! What do others think?

Just wanted to say congrats to everybody at the competition. It was really a great one and all the groups did soooo well. Special congrats to Dekalb and Crete. I loved both of your shows! Dekalb deffinitley deserved the win, and I thought Crete should have placed higher...this is the best show they've ever had.

Great job Southmont for running such a great competition. Good luck to everybody in the upcoming season!
