Yes yes...hehe great memories from Southmont this year! My friend (FC) was the girl who had a skirt thrown at her...it hit her right in the face and just stayed there for a moment. My skirt came off, but it was during the ballad and before we danced, so I managed to fix it. Eeek, so much craziness with the show, but it was fun! And I was so happy when they turned the vending machines back on around...oh, 12:30 at night. We all leapt onto those and got water and chocolate!

Southmont was an awesome competiton...everyone there did a great job.

My thoughts:

DeKalb--Very well put together and CLEAN show. I enjoyed the costumes and your energy. But would we expect anything less. Your entire group is a class act!

Teays Valley--Was that Teays Valley?? VERY vocally insecure. I definately dissagreed with the vocal award. I think that your opener is so overdone and that was the biggest turnoff. But overall you all had great energy and I look forward to seeing you as the season progresses.

Franklin Central-- Other than a weak closer...I loved your show. Costumes are so trivial...you guys pulled through the falling skirts VERY well! I thought your vocals were the most solid and think you prolly should have placed one up from where you did.

Crete-- Your energy was awesome. You all did very well.

Mooresville-- This was the best Mooresville show I have seen in a long long long time. The last couple of years have made me wonder if you all were the great show choir that the Spots have always been. I loved the costumes and I thought your choreo was so so so clean and visually pleasing. GREAT JOB!

Beavercreek-- Except the boys in blue pleather pants...I loved your show. Very entertaining!! I cant wait to see you all at Piqua (that is if you are going but you usually do).

IT was well worth the four drive to see this competition. Thank you to all of the performers for making it a very entertaining day!

Southmont was a great competition, congrats to everyone! Here are my view points on the finalist. Please remember I am not a judge and these are only my opinions................

DEKALB- WOW! I was blown away by your show. I really liked your opener. You had amazing vocals and your choreography was wonderful! Everything was very percise and right on the spot. I loved the black and white costumes! Congratulations on a GC winning show! Fantastic job.

TEAYS VALLEY- You had great vocals, and good choreography. Nice ballad. Your guys number was fun, very nice soloist. Great facials. Good job and good luck this year!

FRANKLIN CENTRAL- I really liked your show. The costume change was rather distracting, but I like the idea and am sure it will be fixed by the competition season (you did a great job however, of handeling it). Well done!

MOORESVILLE- Nice job! Good vocals and choreography! Great Facials! I thought your show was very well done and think you all will go far this season. Nice job!

CRETE-MONEE- I really enjoyed your show! Superb job. You had some very good vocals, and sharp/clean choreography. Such an improvement from past years!! Great show, you guys are headed for a very sucessful season! Congratulations and good luck!

BEAVERCREEK- I really liked your show, it is very fun, but there is some room for improvement. Great dynamics and energy. I liked your ballad, wonderful soloist (she sounds like the recording)! However the ballad is some what long. I think with a little work you all will go far this spring. Good luck!

Great job to everyone and good luck to all of you in everything you do this year!!!!

Oh man, I'm just picturing a girl onstage who's skirt falls off ... then she picks it up, and throws it at another girl dancing by her ... man, that's very humorous. Southmont sounded like it was a great competition ... Also, I have a question, were you Lawrence Central people there competiting or just watching?

Wow! Thanks guys! I didnt know how well we'd (DeKalb) do and i was afraid that it wouldnt go down too well since we lost 24 awesome seniors last yr., but it turned out great and southmont continued to be a really fun competition to go to. I just wanna say that everybody did and awesome job and it was sweet having it so competitive. Great job especially to Fc, Teays, and Crete(!).

[Franklin Central: Very entertaining, I wouldn't expect any less. The costume change was a disaster, although I'm sure that won't be that way for the contest season. The performers handled the costuming issues very well (with the skirts falling off), although when the one girl threw her skirt at another girl, I laughed my ass off. Excellent facials and energy, definitly some of Damon's better work.

Thank you very much....and the costume problems will definitely be fixed by Ona! ;)

So here are my thoughts on the finalists:

GC-Dekalb: What more can I say. That was just good ole' fashioned singin and dancin the way it is supposed to be done. You guys had a great sound and some very clean choreography. The second number was really creative. I loved how you guy's combined the novelty and the tap number. I just hit close to home b/c CS is doing both kinds of songs. I was just refreshing to see that another choir were doing it and doing it well, that gives me hope. The ballad was really good. Great female soloist. The closer was a great way to finish off the already great show. The costumes were really good as well. So congrats on a great show and winning the competition.

1st RU-Teays Valley: Ok, so like Landon I about died when I heard you guys opening with "It's Today," cuz that's our opener and I didn't expect for anyone else to open with it. That's just because I think that song is sort of random even though I was definintely singing 2nd tenor parts with you guys. On the opener you guy's sounded great. The choir has a great female sound. The ballad was another highlight of show. After that though, the show kind of fell flat for me. The Single-Gender numbers could've been better even though the guy's soloist was really good. I thought the closer was a little anti-climactic but it was vocally and choreographically good. Overall, great vocals and choreography.

2nd RU- Franklin Central: I thought you guys were technically good but I didn't enjoy the show. I really felt sorry for the girls that had the skirt trouble but most of them played it off well.

3rd RU-Crete-Monee:I LOVE YOU GUY'S!!!! You guys had really great vocals. Those were the most amazing soft sounds I 've heard. You guy's definitely had the best showmanship there. I really think that you should've gotten 2nd RU, in front of FC. I loved "Sing, Sing,Sing," it's the epitome of a show shoir song and you guy's did it great. The choreography was really clean as well. Congrats on a great show and good luck on the rest of the season.

4th RU-Mooresville: I really think that this show is a drastic improvement from last years. My favorite number was the closer. I'm a total preachers kid and we sing that song at my church. I would never think that anyone would do it in show choir. It was great. Me and my friend Anthony were singing and dancing right along with you guys.

5th RU- I liked the "ballroom" effect in the beginning but after that the show just went down hill for me. In my opinion it didn't have any fluidity and there was just alot going on.

So there is my two cents. Going to that comp. made me really eager to compete and I'm excited.

Crete-Monee: Choreography was awesome, it was well-executed, and very sharp & energetic. Vocals started out awesome but completely lost it towards the end, and that's why you guys placed so low. If the vocals matched the energy level, you would have definitly placed higher. Definite improvement from past years.

Mooresville: The dance breaks were awesome, they were very crisp and visually entertaining. The vocals were solid for the most part. My only complaint is the consistency amongst the performers, a lot of guys had no facials whatsoever throughout the entire show; then again it is understandable for a fall contest, I hope that changes for the contest season. Overall, I loved the show. I definitly would have placed you guys a lot higher. You guys will definitly dominate this year.

Beavercreek: Tremendous improvement from Glen-Este last week, especially in the vocals. They were definitly some of the best dynamics at the contest. I loved the ballad, it was very powerful. Performers communicated very well to the audience, especially the male soloist for "You're Timeless to Me". Great job.

Dekalb: There's not much else to say other than what everyone else has been saying. The vocals weren't too bad, and the costumes were awesome. I know I'm probably the only one, but I wasn't crazy about the novelty thing in the opener. It just looks like something a Jr. High show choir would have done. Choreography was awesome, but definitly not some of Dwight's best work. All in all great job.

Teays Valley: Just a mediocre show, not up to par with past years. The vocals were good, and the choreography was good for the most part. The backdrop bugged me...why was it solid white? The closer, "Only the Good Die Young", wasn't good at all. Why in the world would your director want to close with a song like that?! I didn't feel this show at all, I'm sure you'll do better for contest season.

Franklin Central: Very entertaining, I wouldn't expect any less. The costume change was a disaster, although I'm sure that won't be that way for the contest season. The performers handled the costuming issues very well (with the skirts falling off), although when the one girl threw her skirt at another girl, I laughed my ass off. Excellent facials and energy, definitly some of Damon's better work.

For anyone interested, the score breakdown was:
Vocals: 130
Visuals: 100
Instrumental: 20

Dekalb, I LOVE THE OPENER! The costumes are incredibly beautiful (as always), the black and white works really well. I can't WAIT to see the real closer for the copmetition season, but I LOVED the first half (I know you'll get that 2nd number together!)...Reach worked so well as a ballad for you. I was skeptical hearing you'd be singing it but it works perfectly for you. Not forced, and overall a great Dekalb sound!
Crete...wha, wha what??!! Was that Crete? They only had like 28 kids, and it was SO good for the fall! I can't wait until you really polish this show. It is SO fun to watch. Crete doing swing? WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT! Different styles are going to really help you this year (something usually missing from Crete). What a day!

Oh yeah, and Dekalb Sound Sensation, WAY TO PERFORM through a series of crazy events (HUGE EXPLOSIONS GOING OFF?!)...that is a moment I'll remember for the rest of my show choir life!!! " border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

This competition was AWESOME. I loved it. Dekalb I love watching u guys so much. So entertaining. Teays Valley was also amazing. Gettin stuck between 2 really good groups in finals may not have helped any. From what i heard from some people from dekalb the scored were really close between them and Teays Valley. 2 points! WOW
