Creative? Yes burbank did something new this year but if you look at their old sets the are quite similar... The cowboy theme from last year and the viking thing the did a few years ago have the same concept.
I believe that because Mr. Jennings and Jen Oundjian started creating such creative sets for the Burroughs choirs Mr. Carroll had to step it up. If Mr. Jennings and Jen Oundjian hadn't challenged him with this new style of show choir I think that Burbank would still be preforming traditional show choir.
One choir that i am surprised that there isn't much talk about is Scarlet Rhapsody.
I loved their set about the genocide in Darfur and thought that the singing was excellent.
I loved that it was more than singing and dancing but that the kids were really acting and showing a tremendous amount of emotion.( you may not have been able to see their faces on the live feed)
Of course I'm not suggesting they aren't creative, artistic, and original. However, it would be foolish to say that Burbank is as creative as Burroughs. Their sets have been very similar the past two years. This year, they open with a Mozart song, and they close with 4 minutes. This leads me to raise an eyebrow or two to their claim of out-of-the box creativity and originality.

I hate to break it to you but you're giving burbank grain about not being"out of the box" yet you think that doing contemporary music(Foo Fighters, Incubus that plays on K-Roq 24.7) is out of the box?. That's a funny sentiment. Isn't out of the box supposed to be something very unexpected and new? If I recall correctly, Burroughs Powerhouse has done Foo Fighters, has done contemporary music before....yet you still call them original? Interesting. You're giving your choir a bad name by coming on this website and stirring up drama over placements because YOU think certain elements are more important than core fundamentals of a show. Grow up, please. Stop throwing salt in the wound and quit the "Burroughs is more creative than Burbank" argument. It's tired and annoying at this point.

mozart and 4 minutes are light years apart in selection but thats not what our set is about -___- our set is called "Ex Tenebris Lux" meaning "out of darkness to light".You have to look it at like that.not by the song selection buddy.
All elements of Burroughs' show are important. The visual effects in a show choir set is like the exterior of a car. You could have the best freakin car in the world, but if the exterior is crap no one will want to drive it. It would be ridiculous to say "strip away the lights, props, etc... and...", because one could say of Burbank "Strip away the clean choreography and...". I honestly don't see the merit in devaluing the artistry of Burroughs's set. Both Burbank and Burroughs have their strong points in terms of showmanship. Burbank does sharp choreography. Burroughs is creative, artistic, and original. Forgive me if I fail to see the value in playing the "which is more important" game.

How different judges see the Burroughs set is their business. I care more about what the audience saw than what the judges think they saw. Burroughs has consistently won or lost previous competitions based on their performances for quite a long time. I only hope that Burroughs' loss or tie at SoCal for the 4th year in a row will raise a red flag or two.
First of all, it's called Show Choir. Thus it is a singing and dancing competition, meaning the choirs that can dance and sing the best are the ones that WIN! Have show choir shows always used auxiliary light fixtures, backdrops, or fancy air cannons? The answer is no. The point I was trying to make was that when you strip their show of the externalities you see the core of the show, the guts if you will. All the props and such do help make a show great and exciting but in the end the judges are not basing their decisions on how flashy a show is. If you dance and sing well, you will be rewarded handsomely. In a show choir competition being "sharp" when you dance is MORE important than having air cannons. Sorry if you fail to see this. You can create your own genre where choirs can come and test out the latest air cannons and you can base their entire performance off of that instead of their natural talent and ability. It's incredibly insulting to say that Burbank is not original, artsy, or creative. I invite you to sit and listen ONLY to both shows and tell me who has the most breath taking vocals. Then watch both shows with no sound, and see who has the best and cleanest choreography. Add those two together and you've got yourself a champ. Again, I am not devaluing Burroughs' set or their originality as you so claimed. If you recall, both Burbank AND Burroughs had flashy elements that ADDED to their show.

Heck, it wouldn't be possible for their reputation to be right up there with yours (I assume you are in Powerhouse currently) unless they exerted those qualities year in and out. I have full confidence they have represented themselves accordingly and will continue doing so.

Congratulations, Sound Sensations! You guys were amazing yesterday!(: Since you guys were right after us, all the girls either ran to the balcony or were glued to the monitor to watch you guys, haha.
Chula We ALL love you and you hold a special place in our hearts and always will. Thanks for an amazing competition once again. I'm sure every group had a blast! I had never been to San Diego before so it was like a perfect day, no clouds in the sky, so i was really happy lol. Everyone who performed was ridiculously great and i feel it was an honor to have competed against some of the most talented people in SoCal.
congratulations to everyone for their amazing performances last night. socal was the perfect ending to my perfect senior year. i've never cried so hard out of happiness before. i'll remember last night forever (:

Thanks for an amazing competition once again. I'm sure every group had a blast! I had never been to San Diego before so it was like a perfect day, no clouds in the sky, so i was really happy lol. Everyone who performed was ridiculously great and i feel it was an honor to have competed against some of the most talented people in SoCal.
