Who knows? Perhaps it's a loyalty factor. Clinton seems to have frequented the same competitions over the past few years (for example, they've gone to Homewood 11 times and Petal 7 times since 2000--Sullivan 5 times and Los Al 3 times is also very frequent for out-of-region travel).
If I was a show choir director (not yet), I would want to visit places that I've had good experiences at previously (good hosts, fair judging/scoring, venue, transportation ease). Maybe those all have a factor.
For this contest, does the auditorium empty out between each division? how early should I arrive to get a seat if I already have a ticket?
They do regularly empty out the auditorium, yes. I don't think you need to be there more than 30 minutes before a division unless you're trying to get into Tier I Mixed. Then you might want to camp out overnight.
They tried to setup a livestream but they couldn't get a proper connection to the internet because the district limits bandwidth usage to a normal users.
Predictions:
GC: Clinton (music)
1RU: Burbank (show)
2RU: John Burroughs
I loved Clinton's show when I saw it live at Petal. And I loved Burbank's show when I saw it via live feed at WWS. I didn't really get JB's show this year (though, that was earlier in the season). So I really think it's between Clinton and Burbank. As for captions, what I've predicted could be a shocking outcome, but this entire year has been shocking. I think this is one of Clinton's better vocal years (I'd say since 2010). And I think Burbank's design is genius--though Clinton's is fab too (and their choreography is as usual--flawless).
*and interesting (as every time at Los Al), it's a one-and-done. No finals for any of the groups to seal the deal or jump ahead. Not that any of them really need it...
