Don't count Busco out of the night show. We have the potential to have one of the best years our group has ever had. Plus our show is freakin sweet!!!!!!!!!

That just seems like it would be sooooo chaotic and stressful. You have to go to one school, unload the trailer, get ready for your first show, perform your first show, sort out the costumes to pack them up, load the trailer, get on a bus to the other school (which is kind of blowing off the hosts at the first school), unload the trailer, get ready for the second show, perform a second show, somehow manage to eat, I have no idea how preliminary awards would work especially since the times would probably be close, get ready for a third performance if you make finals, perform a third time, sort out your clothes to pack up again, load the trailer, get on a bus to go back to the first school, unload the trailer, get ready for a fourth performance, perform AGAIN, sort out your costumes, go to 2 final award ceremonies, load the trailer AGAIN, and go home. It would be exciting but way too stressful.
well this would how it would work. We go to dekalb, perform, then head over to norwell, and perform there, and then we'd stay for day awards there and when we make the night show, then we stay at norwell and perform as one of the first groups in finals, and then we hear from a parent or something if we made finals at dekalb, and if so, we'd shoot back over to dekalb and perform in the finals there. I'm not quite sure how we will eat something in between, but we'll probably have something to eat after that. so yeah, that's what we kinda did my freshman year in '07 with carroll and luers.

Coming from someone that was used to seeing a group when they were the "Edgewood of Old"... They have the opportunity to be very good this year, but then I don't see the ambition and motivation that those older groups had. So I can see them making finals and making a name for themselves, or going home early for the day and being very disappointed. This is one of the competitions that is a gut-check. The weekend before at Danville will be where everyone can gauge where we will place @ DeKalb.
I'm a big Verda fan and I have fallen in love with some old Edgewood shows thanks to YouTube I know that the talent is there I just hope the drive is there like you said...I'm wishing Music Warehouse tons of luck and I can't wait to see their full show live for the first time since 2006(which I loved)!!!!

This is going to be a great day!!! I'm going to just predict finalists because the caliber of groups at this competition is crazy.
Wabonsie Valley
Buffalo Grove
Marysville
Eisenhower
Franklin Central
Edgewood (IN)
I think the top five groups could go so many different ways. Depending on the panel and order of performance it could be a totally crazy day of show choir, with results going almost any way. I hope that Edgewood can return to their old form this year and produce a great show that entertains like they used to. Good Luck to all of the competing choirs. Can't wait for this one!!!!

Why do groups go to 2 competitions in 1 day?
It's pretty much a thrill for me. I can't wait to go to 2 comps. in one day. I did it with Northrop my freshman year in 2007. We went to Bishop Luers and Carroll I think. It was quite hectic at times but such a rush. Also, it was pretty nasty to put on sweaty clothes for the third time in the day since we made both night shows. oh myy. We ended up placing 1ru at luers and i think 5ru at carroll. Not positive. It is going to be a verrry busy day on Valentine's Day. Ahhhh!
I agree. I would think that having Middle Schools on Saturday would be the preferred way to go. But at Lawrence Central we are seeing the same thing. We have two Middle Schools for the Classic on Feb. 28th, and both of those are coming from great distances (one from Ohio). I would think Middle School directors would want their kids to see the high schools perform. The Great line-up that DeKalb has or those who will be at LC this year: North Central, Center Grove, Burbank, Plainfield, etc.
Speaking as a junior high director myself, we prefer the Friday nights. There are several JH basketball tournaments, jazz band fests, and other middle school activities that occur on Saturdays. Tell the truth, 2/14 is really the only Saturday in the month of February or March where we are without conflicts.
Though I agree with you, having the younger kids observe and support their older counterparts is worthwhile, if your school feeds into a program that hosts a contest, such viewing could, and often does, occur then.
In years past, we have attended Fairfield as our lone Saturday contest, as they usually get a ton of JH's attending. This year, it doesn't work with our spring break.
I'm hoping, and thinking, that Dekalb will still be a terrific opportunity for our kids to cheer on some of the best HS choirs around. However, driving all the way up 37 and 69 to perform against only one other school is a little less than appealing.

Why do groups go to 2 competitions in 1 day?
Almost a straight shot down I-69 makes this a tempting double, but it would be too much to think about if bad weather hits up here in NE Indiana. Even in good weather, its quite a stretch. We thought about trying a double 2 years ago, but it was a Friday/Saturday split with Franklin Central and Lawrence Central. We ended up deciding against it and just doing FC. I would have liked to tried that one. Good luck Northrop. I hope it works out for you.

By having the middle schools compete on Saturday they can watch all the high school choirs at no additional charge. I think this would help add more middle school choirs. Look at the choirs they could get to see this YEAR!
Any way what I here the most is that we are to far North and they don't like to travel that far. I would like to have more middle school choirs, if you are interested drop me an email at dekalbshow [email protected] and I will get you on the list for 2010. We are full for 2009!!! We can only take about 30 choirs.

We take groups as they sign up. This year I contacted more middle school groups than ever before. (Some by letter, some by email, even by phone)
I think we give out very nice trophies and medallions to all winning choirs of each division which include middle schools. We hold the middle school groups on Saturday along with the high school groups. Maybe this has something to do with it. I know several schools that hold them on the Friday before.

For us it was just a few miles away. Our group, Soundwave, would still be in it if they wern't in temporary hold for lack of class time. But the high school group will still make its regular stop there.

I can't tell you why the lack of JH/MS groups competing here. This invitational has had as many as 6 and as few as 2 in the past. There's another contest in NE Indiana that same day that also has a JH/MS contest. That could be part of it.

The junior high division looks a little thin... I'm surprised with the strong field of HS's that there aren't more JH's looking to attend...
Any updates?
