South Dearborn Opening Knight received 2nd Runner Up! They forgot to announce it at the awards and gave us our trophy afterwards. I am going to go ahead and say this but it is hard for small groups of 20 something to compete in the same small mixed with groups with 50 singers. Maybe unpopular opinion but have to say it.

Congrats to all!

I think that's a pretty reasonable perspective. As an Ohioan, it seems bizarre anything below 1600 enrollment (or whatever the number is now) is considered a small school. I know Indianapolis-area schools are ginormous, but school size is just an awful classification system for show choir.

We have 25 singers and there were a few with less than that. I think there is a better way to do this. However, one reason I travel to Ohio more often now. Happy with my kids BUT it is discouraging.

Currently, our school size is 635. However, a small mixed division should be done by group size. This is my opinion. Seems like you agree. I am very proud of my 17 girls and 8 boys. They did all I asked of them.
Congratulations on your small mixed win!

Thank you for your incredible insight! We hadn’t thought of recruiting, perhaps you should come take his job as well as mine, since you obviously know how to do a better job than we can. It is so fair for groups of 50+ students to be in divisions of 25 singers, again just excuses. We’ll try to limit our excuses in the future. Thanks again for the great advice!

I am sorry you had to be on the receiving end of this kind of negativity. I don't know what it is, but every so often it seems to swell. We've had more than one post recently of people just being nasty... I am not sure what provokes it.

I know it is a small minority of people, but please, everyone, work to be a good influence on your fellow show choir members and practice supporting each other in our community. If there is one thing I have taken away from my time visiting show choirs all across the country it's that everyone truly is the same. It doesn't matter the group or the style or the accents or the approach. Enter any classroom full of show choir students and you'll find one thing - a bunch of kids working their hardest to make beautiful music together. That's it.

I do believe there is value in competition and it's fun to support your home team. But we have so much more in common than we do not, and there's just no reason for the snark or the straight up disrespect. I will keep removing posts (and users, if it comes to that) who feel the need to belittle others, but I sure wish I didn't have to. Let's use our time and energy for good; there's already enough that needs fixing in the world.

What exactly are the full, accurate prep/festival division placements? We've seen it listed two different ways. We need some clarification.

I think its dumb that there are so many one and done comps because finals are the best part of show choir I think

Bummer. Thanks for letting us know. Guessing the snow made it dangerous. They were at our contest last weekend (Plainfield QCI). Admire them every week making that drive up from Evansville to Indy for contests.
