Is the order they’re going in for finals how they were ranked?

Any updated predictions after seeing some groups?

After seeing groups, it’s really tough to say. Every group I’ve seen has a different issue to work out if and when they perform in finals. Findlay is about to go on, but my best guess right now for placement order is Hastings, Homewood, North Central, Oak Mountain, Mt. Zion with Findlay to perform and Linn Marr somewhere (didn’t see them, but have heard good things).

EDIT: I have Findlay over North Central

This is such a hard competition. Watching all the groups here have really impressed me. They all deserve finals. Seriously

That is the difficulty of this contest. There usually aren’t big point spreads here.

I can confirm that last night was based entirely on ranks. Everything is running on time or ahead so far, and I anticipate no change to that.

I know you're in the middle of the comp, but if you have a chance, can you explain what placement based on ranks means (vs. raw score?)? Thanks!

Raw score is your total points from the scoresheets. This contest takes the average score of the five core judges to determine placements for prelims.

Ranks is based off where each judge places a group rather than the score. There are two ways that this can work. One method is to add all of the rankings together, and the placements are decided based on whoever has the lowest total. The other method (consensus rank) determines placement based on how the majority placed a group. If three or more of the five judges have Group A over Group B, then Group A places over Group B regardless of if Group B out scores group A or if the sum of the ranks is lower for Group B. This contest uses consensus ranks for Single-Gender and finals.

Out of these 11 teams, (which seems low!) how many will move on to Finals?

6 move on to finals. Performance order is reverse placement for the top six.
