Essentially, what you're really saying is that the judges don't have credibility - not FAME. FAME didn't decide who made it and who didn't, they are just putting on the event.

Frankly, I know several of the judges personally and they are all super stand up people. I think declaring that anyone has "lost credibility" has just lost credibility.

I'm not going to make any commentary about who should or should not have made finals, although I certainly have opinions like anybody else. What I will say, though, is that the folks at FAME have astounding credibility and integrity in how they run their events. Having judged at least a dozen FAME events over the years, we're lectured before each event about not letting personal friendships, animosity, group reputations, etc., cloud our judgement. We're asked to not talk AT ALL about where we have placed any group until the end of FINALS! As a matter of fact, at FAME Chicago we all had to read and sign a letter of agreement that we understood, supported, and would abide by these principles.

Further, I know and respect each and every person on that panel and to question their integrity, qualifications, talents and abilities to fairly judge actually makes the person doing the questioning look a bit comical and ridiculous. These folks are some of the absolute best there are out there, and while it's perfectly fine to have differing opinions on who should've made finals, blaming either FAME or the judging panel is unfortunate for those making the silly accusations.

Last point. I worked with one of the groups there today, Carroll Minstrel Magic, as one of their 3 choreographers. They got 7th and missed the finals, although I'm tremendously proud of them and thought they did beautifully. I don't blame the judges, FAME, the students, the parents, the director, myself, the other choreographers, the parents, the costumers, the arrangers, the sound people, the lighting people, the security guards, or voodoo witch doctors that may have put some secret curse upon us from a faraway island. No, instead I realize it was a great competition, run by a great company, with great judges, and it could've gone many different ways. No sour grapes at all, just respect for those running the contest and congratulations to the fine groups that made finals. God Bless, Damon Brown

I don't believe any of the people you were talking about judged vocals or choreo in prelims. The people I believe you are talking about all judged captions.

Though I don't necessarily agree with the statement that FAME has lost credibility, I supposed I kind of do. No Totino is a joke basically. Not to take away from the other groups but anyone who knows show choir even a little bit knows that Totino Grace deserves a spot in finals here, especially since people are saying it was their best performance of the year. But I guess thats how it goes sometimes. Keeping things interesting. Congratulations to Totino on another great season. You have nothing to hang your head about. You guys are fantastic.
Also Wheaton, the predicted-by-many-champion, didn't receive captions? Weird.

Good luck to the rest of finalists!

Well anyone who knows show choir knows that all the groups in finals also deserve to be there. I think one could make an argument for every group in attendance that they deserved to place in finals...obviously they do since they placed in the top 3 at another FAME event. But the judges are qualified enough to make a rational decision. There's never going to be a unanimous consensus with show choir placements.

Of course that takes something away from the other groups. You're saying one of them shouldn't have made it in. Who would that be? What if every choir had their best performance of the year?

As an alumni from totino it's hard to hear that the group didn't make finals this year. Many would say that they deserved a finals spot and I was unable to be there or watch the live feed so i shouldn't make any comments on that. Still though, it's true that Totino has NOTHING to be ashamed about and they should hold their heads high. THey had a fantastic season and i am so proud of them.

p.s. could someone please change my status to alumni instead of student. thank you.

A guess is that he's reacting to Totino not making finals... but as Scott pointed out, there are only five spots and several great groups in attendance. Not everyone's favorite was going to make it!

in my opinion, they had the best show i've ever seen them have this year. granted i was online, but i thought they did phenomenally and were one of the best shows of the day.

Hmm, I figured it would be close with those six schools, but I certainly didn't expect Totino to not make finals. How did they do today?
