Nothing looks messed up here... if there is an issue, can you send me a PM or make a topic in Website Feedback? Thanks.

I think we might just be missing the first ( on the quote when copy/pasting. The problem is that once you've made the post, there's no way to get it to show up as a quote in the separate little box at the top again... not through edit at least.

I don't know how else to explain it?

Okay I see what's going on now. It happened to me too. The editing is messing up. And the quoting.

I'm not saying show choir has to be serious, or broadway, or realistic. I'm saying that personally, I appreciate that style of more adult showmanship from a group of 50 kids, a lot more than I do the pop/edgy numbers a lot of choirs do. There are only a few choirs that still really stress this, Carmel, HN, Findlay, CG, etc, and for whatever reason, the older I get, the more I appreciate what these Directors/choreographers are doing to prepare their students.

Show choir is different than movies or musicals. It's not about realism or anything like that. Do you think marching band is "realistic"? Why would people playing instruments go around making shapes if 50 people on stage can't dance in their spot while singing? I'm just rambling and saying the first things that come to mind but show choir is not the same as these other things. Wheaton has awesome stuff this year, Factual Verbatim.

Oh, and I love Carmel's 08 opener

I see your point lol. Marching band was probably not a great comparison. I guess the difference is you can actually join a professional competitive Drum Corps after high school if you're trained well enough in marching band. Not so true with Show Choir except for the few universities that have show choirs.

I'm glad you love that opener and didn't get too bored to watch it. They were way too perfect that year. lol The crazy thing for me, is that even though the 2 styles are completely different, My OTHER favorite opener is from the same year. John Burroughs "Show Must Go On" from 2008. I literally can't pick between the 2 bc while Carmel was nearly flawless, while burroughs wasn't, the performance that Burroughs gave was so high energy, real, and relevant, that I just can't even critique that number (plus I LOOOOVE QUEEN).

So I know it's hard to understand where i'm coming from bc my tastes are all over the board.

Let me slow it down for you. If you can't sing the repetoire you're performing while dancing, You might as well stand still and do it, because if the vocals suck, you're going to seem like garbage no matter how well you dance. Is that plain enough?

Have you ever seen a movie, musical, or music video, in which 50 ppl on the same stage stood in a 2 foot by 2 foot imaginary box, in 4 tiers, and performed exactly the same arm movements and steps as the rest of the ppl on stage? Only worrying about straight diagonals and guiding to the ppl in front of you? No... Why? because it's boring, unrealistic, and isn't a great way to utilize the stage...

Having to memorize and hit marks all over the stage is more difficult than "Hit picture, dance, move slightly in 4 counts, hit picture, dance repeat", and should score higher accordingly. Just as, regardless of how boring you think it might be, Well executed tapping should be rewarded accordingly...

I'm done with this conversation, If anyone wants to keep insulting me, go for it lol

Just saying. I looked at your post where you quoted 'djf2010' which is the post above. Aren't you the one who wrote that? You changed the username so it looked like you didn't right it. Correct me if I'm wrong but you shouldn't do that. On page 4 you wrote the post that started out with "Lady Gaga makes..." and on the post above it says 'djf2010' wrote it.[/quote]

It was an accident just like yours man, I was editing and the "(Quote)" bit got deleted. So it seemed like a quote from him rather than Me.

Sorry lol. I'll gladly take responsibility for that post haha. It just got messed up.

Wait. Everyone doing the same choreography? I thought this was show choir. But I could be wrong?

And again, how would this be show choir if every group just stood and sang?

I'm very confused...

Lady Gaga makes a living with what she does as well, but there is NOTHING legitimate about her.... Maybe there was back when she was a brunette stoner, doing covers of D'yer Maker by Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd songs....that's legit.

Lol When it comes to pop and urban choreo, I only have seen Woody or Jen do anything that I LOVED watching and thought actually looked Urban, or Pop n fresh...

Dwights choirs are not my cup of tea. I always hear a lot of foot noise, I rarely see an overall Visual presentation. Just individuals dancing the same choreo as the 15 other ppl right next to them, until the blocks change. They rarely do any major stage movement.

When it comes to traditional or broadway numbers, It's gotta be Ron Morgan and Andy Haines, or it just ends up being interpreted as pretty vocals and armography... Zzzzzz.

I think Dwight, April, Jared, and Damon all do what they do well, and there is a place for them in the world, But I think it's fairly obvious that Carmel, North Central, Burroughs, Center Grove (etc) students who seriously are pursuing musical theater or dance, come out of their respective programs better prepared for major universities than those that come from other choirs that are just about being a great "show choir".

This is the last time i'm mentioning choreography, because frankly, I don't give a crap about choreography. It detracts from the time spent on vocals and If you can't sing, then you might as well just stand still.

Again, all you have to do is watch the first 30 seconds of any of these vids and if you're not blind, you'll see the legitimate theater aspect of this choreography, and stop asking me to support my opinions with argument.

1 - just watch 30 seconds or so, that's enough.

same deal

3 - Spanish Fork - opening dance break

Lol, I'm trying to talk to high school kids about level of difficulty.... Why do I make myself miserable by involving myself in such stupid discussions.

Do any Alumnists who are dance majors want to back me up here? It's feeling a little chilly...

I prefer Jason Johnson and Mike Weaver to DJ and April as well. Why does that make me a jerk?

How can you say what Dwight does is not "legitimate"... clearly he has made a living off what he teaches. This world is full of different styles of dancers.

So Scott, why do you feel the need to say what is legitimate or not?

you already told me you were coming.
no takesies backsies.

i want to so bad. i'm working on it. trying to decide which way to go around it.
i really want to 'shoot' more show choir competitions. or even just show choir performances.
and i obviously want to spend time with you! imagine the fun we will have.

oh, and pertaining to the competition aspect of fame...i honestly think this could go ANY WAY. anytime i have it set in my head, it changes. these groups are all incredible and i am so excited to find out what happens. i'll probably implode from joy if i do make it out there. i mean, to see marysville, totino, waconia (<3) and wheaton in one venue will be enough to kill me.all of those groups are so near and dear to my heart. i absolutely always always always love marysville's show. and that's enough of my humbo jumbo.

and, what's this choreo discussion? i think it's all pretty real. i love all of the discussed choreographers! and damon was difficult for me, but maybe i'm not the best judge. you can ask mr. brown, but i was never the quickest when it came to choreography. ahahah.
