I think one of more interesting aspects is going to be how well Nova will be received being an all girls group competing at Varsity. They have a fun show and a lot of talent. As far as finals any of the mixed groups and Spirit have a good shot. Good luck to all.

The Friday night middle school part of the competition has been cancelled, as the district is letting students out 2 hours early and cancelling all after-school events. Saturday is still on at the moment, and again, we will know by 5am if any schedule adjustments will be made.

With a winter storm warning in effect in Johnston, the district is considering cancelled part or all of Friday night’s competition, and potentially Saturday, too. A decision for Friday will be made by the vocal department by 2pm tomorrow, and a decision for Saturday will be made between 4-5am Saturday morning. Will keep everyone posted.

Tough competition, this one. Here are my current predictions.
GC: Urbandale (BC) (BB)
1RU: Ankeny Centennial (BV)
2RU: Waukee
3RU: Norwalk
4RU: Ankeny Centennial Prep
5RU: Indianola

Good Luck to all!

Predictions!
GC- Ankeny Centennial "Spectrum" (BV) (BC)
1RU- Urbandale "Studio" (BV) (BB)
2RU- Waukee "Millennium"
3RU- Ankeny Centennial "Eternal Rush"
4RU- Norwalk "Sound Revolution"
5RU- Indianola "Side One"

I think Ankeny and Urbandale are probably going to end up as the top two of the competition, with Centennial taking choreography and the vocal caption deciding who will win. I also think ER will be competitive here because they were able to take a caption from Celebration. I think the best band caption will end up with Studio. I think that Vitality or Spirit could also have a chance at making finals instead of Indianola and Norwalk. Best of Luck to all groups competing here.

Does anyone know why Waukee "Nova" is competing in the mixed division rather than the women's division?

Similar to the conversation happening in the Prairie Premiere topic, Waukee "Nova" is a varsity women's group similar to the women's groups found in Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois - women's groups there are generally considered equals to their varsity mixed counterpart and sometimes share members between groups. However, the majority of women's groups in Iowa are actually women's prep, or JV, groups. Waukee is bucking the trend and I'm interested to see what'll happen with that. It's apparently no longer against Iowa rules to share between a mixed and a women's group, but it seems to still be the culture and so having them compete in the Open Division is what contests may do. Some competitions on that side of the Midwest also do this with the Totino-Grace men's group as well.

There is no sharing between Nova and Millenium...

It's the same for the Kennedy men's group, we took a year off last year but we're back this year and we're competing at Waconia and Totino and for both we compete in the Mixed Division

Random predictions that are sure to be wrong:

GC: Urbandale
1RU: Ankeny Centennial
2RU: Waukee
3RU: Spirit
4RU: Eternal Rush
5RU: Indianola

BV: Urbandale
BC: Centennial
BB: Urbandale

Best of luck to all! This one will be so close!

Prediction:
GC- Urbandale (BB) (BV)
1RU- Ankeny Centennial "Spectrum" (BC)
2RU- Waukee "Millennium"
3RU- Ankeny Centennial "Eternal Rush"
4RU- Norwalk
5RU- Waukee "Spirit"/Indianola

Personally I think Urbandale is always the underdog. Everyone expects Spectrum to automatically win, but I think it's going to be a close one.

Urbandale s show was such a hit, that since this years show is a sequel to that should make them the favorite. Waukee Nova is new but more than capable of getting to finals. It will be interesting.
