how did carmel's middle school compete in tier 2 mixed?

They didn't compete in Tier II Mixed - they were in the Tier II Finals. Those aren't the same thing, just to be clear. Tier II Finals just indicates it's the second, lower, set of finals at a competition. Carmel MS competed in the middle school division in prelims and the middle school division was eligible, alongside Mixed Tier II, for Tier II Finals. Both the middle school and mixed tier II prelims divisions were in the auditorium and judged by the same panel. Hope that helps!

Yes it does! I got confused because i haven't seen a middle school compete and sweep a tier 2 finals, but that's Carmel for yah. Thanks for the clarification!

No problem at all. I can understand the confusion.

But yeah, you're definitely right. It's unusual. Carmel MS is likely up there among the best when it comes to middle school groups. Fairfield MS and Martinsburg South MS also come to mind as middle school choirs that have placed, taken captions from, and beat high school level choirs.

I predict this will be an amazing competition, not only because of the caliber of the groups attending, but because of the spectacular venues and friendly hosts! I know all choirs have a great day!

Hmm, interesting that they haven't posted any schedule details on their website by now.

I'll make sure to comment the schedule the day-of if it's not posted by then.
