How did you get a DVD so fast? I thought DVDs were only available through mail order from ISSMA?

Directors received a copy of their group's video that was wide format only, so it wasn't edited, with their score packet.

ok...

First of all i really think everyone needs to know that the judging at this contest was legit and fair... If anybody actually watched the top 4 groups (Franklin Central, North Central, Ben Davis, and Carroll) you would know how close every group actually was.

I feel like I could even say you could probably put these groups in a hat, throw them out on the floor and whatever order they landed in, you could argue that as the results of the contest. All 4 groups sang flawlessly and danced with extreme precision (Which made this contest really fun to be at).

Its crucial to know that the 5 judges of this contest are all trained, accredited, and respected professionals of this field. They all had their opinions and that is how the contest is scored. Show choir is not objective like football where you can score touchdowns and gain points (Thank God). Its an artist competition in which all results are subjective and can vary. Somebody always has to be 4th or 3rd place, no matter if your better than the groups or not. Because in the end its all just an opinion of 5 people.

So if it were up to me id like to spend more time on this website appreciating the arts, hard work, and accomplishments of the choirs rather than debating the results of the competition....

With that being said i just want to say

Carroll: You guys looked amazing! You sang flawlessly and had amazing precision! You guys really had an amazing year and have a lot to be proud about coming as far as you have this year.

NC: You guys rocked it... I think the coolest thing about your show on saturday is you guys looked so into it (i know, when does NC not...) ! My friend and i kept talking about how jittery and almost giddy you guys looked performing this show. I think a kid fell while he was getting of the stage he was so hyped in the performance. You guys sang spotlessly and danced with amazing passion. A well deserved GC!

BD: WOW you guys have gotten soo much better... I actually really did not like your show at the beginning of this year and wow you guys killed it on saturday. I am now a ben davis fan, and man you guys were awesome.

FC: You guys killed it! I was really impressed with how clean you guys danced on saturday. You brought a great show and have nothing to be upset about. I really cant say anything other than Im really proud to be an alum of this group. You guys were supposed to have a down year this year (with all the losses and gains in experience), but in no way would you call this a down year in the history of Franklin Central... you guys killed it this year and really added another great season to FC's record... amazing job!

Mr HJA...... "HAHAHA wow issma NEVER fails good ole NC hahaha wow anyone care to comment who watched the performances??" and

"Yea woody, i could really careless about judges at issma. never said they had any affiliation, I was NOT there and did not see the competition and im SURE NC performed so well as usual. But yea congrats to all groups that went to state."

Sounds like Mr HJA has an issue with "good ole NC" winning state AGAIN, but since you were not there and you asked for comments from someone who was (and saw all the performances) I'll share:

Many groups had great openers and fell apart by closing, bad solos, lost energy, utilizing small groups of singers for long periods of time for costume changes, however, every single group had some element that was outstanding. In my opinion this shows that being consistantly strong throughout the show in all the areas outweighs excelling in one area but not living up in others. All the choirs really brought it and it was a very enjoyable evening-so thank you to all the choirs! And congrats to the NC Counterpoints.

2010 ISSMA ADJUDICATORS
KEN THOMAS Choral Director from Enterprise Al. Community College , Chairman for ACDA
PETE ECKLAND -Nebraska
LINDA MAC --Buffalo Grove
Annette Layman--Raleigh NC

If u google these adjudicators, you'll notice their credentials and that they are QUITE capable to adjudicate for ISSMA! You'll also notice that they have no affiliation with ANY of the choirs that competed yesterday.
NC! You worked it out yesterday! FIERCE! FRESH! AND ON POINT!
I'm soooooo PROUD!

As a member of Counterpoints, I am always curious of what people on these forums think of our shows at each competition. As members of the group we give our own opinions of our show based on how we have progressed from the beginning, but it's always good to know outside opinions. However, this year with our DQ at Ben Davis and Carroll's accomplishment of winning of FC, I have always wondered what people have thought of our show this year. So with yesterday's performance, I ask all what did you think of us? Also, how were we versus other groups because we did not get to see any other group live. In response to the results I was suprised too about how things turned out because I believed that things would be different going into the competition. However, congrats to Carroll and FC for a great season and it was an honor to compete with you guys. Although I never heard anything about HN, I'm sure that after their win last weekend you guys were great yesterday. And finally, congratulations to BD on your 1st runner up. From these past 4 years I have been in high school, BD has certainly gone a long way. You should be proud . Just wanted to say that NC loves you all!

North Central, you guys were easily one of my favorite shows this year. it is extremely impressive to me that you learn your show so quickly and perform it so well by competition season. You guys rule.

I can only imagine what you guys were thinking. Of all the groups that went to state for class A i definitely think HN sings better than all and you guys are fresh from a win at homestead. Judging at state has been so off except 2007 i think it was fair. I'm wondering what state will look like next yr pretty sure more tier 1 groups won't compete again. That's sad also a friend had FC then HN then BD as top three but State is over HN so just get back to work and prepare for FAME hopefully CS and HN will do extremely well a 1-2 finish (in either order) will be AWESOME for INDIANA!!!!

Thanks!! we were all really surprised with the results. And i totally agree! Even though we are competeting against each other, I hope LC and HN both do fantastic at FAME! Let's show Indiana that ISSMA really doesn't know what they're talking about. I wish the best of luck to LC!! I'm sure they will do fantastic!!

One benefit of the "riser rule" is that the event runs on time.

ISSMA does an excellent job of clock management.

A big thanks to Plainfield HS for hosting. You have the most beautiful HS in Indiana. I really appreciate the comfortable seats!

Oh yes, and as a side note...we thought it was slightly ridiculous that ISSMA refused to remove the fourth rows of risers for any group that only used three. Not only did it confuse us onstage, it made things more difficult for our crews. In the past, we have used the 4x4 formation, so I don't know if this is a new rule, but why is it there? It takes less than three minutes to set up the row, and even less to take it down, and there was certainly time in between groups.

i think we got ripped off this year...

To add some insight into this, Premiere Edition's choreography scores were very, very low, and the comments did not at all match with the show that the girls felt they performed, that the parents watched them perform, and our director's scrutiny of the DVD after awards. They easily gave their best show, both visually and vocally, of the entire year, and to fall from second place qualifying scores to ninth place in competition was shocking to us. I am very proud of all the members of East Noble Show Choirs, though, for their grace, optimism at their loss and the support to Knight Rhythms. KR, especially the girls that are members of both groups, had to pull through not only unexpected absences and choreography and blocking changes, but also the results of the women's division, and still pulled out one of our best shows.

Obviously, there was something about both PE and KR's shows that the visual judges just did not agree with, as vocal scores were within our "normal" range.

Oh yes, and as a side note...we thought it was slightly ridiculous that ISSMA refused to remove the fourth rows of risers for any group that only used three. Congratulations to all the schools who competed at Class A State Finals, and an especially big congratulations to the North Central "Counterpoints", awesome way to represent class A!

Dekalb - You out-sang and most definitely out-danced your competitors yesterday. You are very entertaining and enjoyable to both watch and listen to, rarely do groups consistently year after year achieve both. You along with the other top choirs at class B exemplify what show choir is all about! Congratulations on being 2010 Class B champs!

Plainfield - Wow! Having not seen you guys yet this year, I was very impressed with how you all sounded. Your show was definitely the most classical out of the top three, and you pulled off that style very well! I thought you guys danced better than I remembered in the past, and thought you looked very, very clean! Congratulations on 1st Runner-Up!

Bishop Luers - Your show was the most original of the top 3, meaning it was very cool. You guys do sing very well, and are very clean. I feel like the large amount of soloists may have hurt you vocally against DeKalb and Plainfield who had less solos. Visually you guys are REALLY sharp, but the choreography does not require as much stamina as the groups ahead of you, and they were just as clean, which i feel may have also hurt you guys. You were very enjoyable to watch, and i loved how creative your show was, esp. Jai Ho. Congratulations on 2nd Runner-Up!
