Franklin Central and Lawrence Central are around 20-25 minutes apart..

Lawrence Township is located in the northeastside suburbs of Indy. Franklin Township is more southeast. From Lawrence you have to pass through another township (Warren Township e.g Warren Central HS) to get to Franklin Township. Most of the metropolitan townships here in Indy are 15-30 minutes of each other. From LC we can get to say North Central (Washington Township) in 15 min. It's around 20 minutes to get to Pike (Pike Township).

That's approximately how far apart Cedar Rapids Washington and Cedar Rapids Jefferson are, and both of them have a competition on the same day. It's been that way since 1997, so it works. The mayor even proclaimed it "Show Choir Day"

i agree choirs new but how can a choir like carmel come in with one of the higest cores on the sheet and not make finals?? or central sound who had the second highest score?? an idk about state last year but i was a senior in 2008 and i agree HN has amazing vocals so does carmel, center grove, and cs (who got 4th vocally that yr) but the issma system is faulty i ddn necessarily say judges were incompetent but the system sucks

yes you did imply the judges were incompetent. so much that they couldnt watch the choirs and form their own opinions, but listen solely to things they may or may not have heard before the competition.

and who can be ignorant to think that choirs cannot have different performances from a completely different competition? carmel's vocals may have sounded weaker than wherever they did their qualifier at. the choreo may have had less energy, or not been as clean. faces could've been lacking. the band may have played wrong notes, or completely overplayed the choir. same with LC. just because your choir did not do as well does not mean the competition is flawed, or the judges are incompetent.

there are SOOOOOO many factors that combine to make up the results. that is why i personally can say i have never gotten a prediction right. you just cannot know beforehand how each individual choir is going to perform. and especially when only 3 choirs make finals, the schedule is going to make a big impact.

i understand that most people around there think the ISSMA system is faulty, but the directors knew all the rules and the scoresheet BEFORE even competing at State.... they had all been scored on those scoresheets at a competition before then, and placed well enough to make the state competition (when many choirs didn't) the directors agreed to be judged by that scoresheet twice, and therefore cannot complain about the judging process.

ISSMA state has been a fluke for so many years i think MANY choirs are just over the attempt at a state comp because it is not fair. i mean all the sites use indiana judges for the most part an then state is out of town judges who know only choirs who have national reps so it still biased although they tried to eliminate it...thats jus my opinion tho lol LOVE CS AN tHE classic woot woot

my old college choir director was a judge at the 08 state competition. he is EXTREMELY well-respected around the nation and judges at numerous local and national comeptitions in numerous states. he knows what he is talking about and he would NEVER judge simply based on choirs he knew. for instance, he had never heard of Huntington North before that day, and he came back raving about their vocals. he said that he had them in first before carmel performed. he also said that carmel was a unanimous favorite among the judges that year.

also, last year a big name school (Carmel) didn't make finals over a lesser-known school- Pike. so i think your interpretation of judging is faulty. if judges didn't know what they were talking about they wouldn't be hired- ESPECIALLY by a state competition. it seemed to me that last year's competition was especially deep and close. none of the choirs that placed were no name choirs who didn't deserve it. and different choirs perform differently at different competitions. that's just how live performances go.

i understand that most people around there think the ISSMA system is faulty, but the directors knew all the rules and the scoresheet BEFORE even competing at State.... they had all been scored on those scoresheets at a competition before then, and placed well enough to make the state competition (when many choirs didn't) the directors agreed to be judged by that scoresheet twice, and therefore cannot complain about the judging process.

instead of just complaining about how faulty ISSMA is, how about directors work together to come up with a system that everyone can agree on. one that helps keep qualifying competitions uniform and provides a competitive state competition. and btw... with that deep of a field there is NO WAY everyone can agree with the results. a crowd favorite (Warren Central) placed low. a crowd favorite and previously undefeated carmel didn't make finals. but those results can come from MANY different reasons. tired vocals, no energy, overpowering band, unsupporting band, too loud of a crowd that covers up the vocals, staging that places the choir farter away from the mics... etc. simply blaming the competition is not the answer.

So far we know Northop and Marysville. You can usually count on Center Grove, and Warren Central. Since it is not an ISSMA qualifying site this year, I doubt that North Central will be back (that's a shame), but it could lead to a lot of other great choirs.
