I disagree with the statement that I am naive to think performance time has nothing to do with it. I was a comp where we were the first group of the day...8am...and we were against some really good groups and we swept it. I personally almost performed better in the morning because there is less pressure, you haven't watched the groups you are competing against.

As for the statement that a big break in the day affects energy levels...I disagree with that too. That's like saying that if you performed your show for parents or something on Friday night, then performed on Saturday...your Saturday show would suck because you haven't performed your show since the night before. That just doesn't make sense to me. Especially seeing that you are from Teays...I knew (and still know) some Teays Valley kids and I have seen their shows multiple years and performance times have never affected their energy levels.

Of course, these are just my opinions and those are yours. But I felt like I needed to respond. Please don't think I'm attacking either one of you.

Well I think it does. If you perform early in the day you really have to push aside the fact you are tired and really try to motivate yourself. It can be rough and does affect you. Maybe some people don't think it does but many people that it does.

I think it's a little naïve to say that the performance time has no bearing on the scores. In theory, it shouldn't, but there are a lot of factors to consider that negatively impact scoring for early morning groups.

I think performance time is a BIG deal. If you perform lets say at 9:00 in the morning and get a finals spot around 10pm the group has done no performing for 13 hours (more than half a day) I would say that would definately effect their energy levels. It might not cost them finals but they really could suffer a placement or two.

Thank you! We are really hoping to make it into finals this weekend as well. Both groups are choreographed by Rob Dicomandria this year. He choreographed our girls group last year, but this is his first with the mixed.

As far as predictions go, mine are as follows in no particular order:

Franklin Central
Carmel
Lawrence Central

I think those are definitely going to get in. The last two spots are probably going to be between Ben Davis, Plainfield, Castle, and Brownsburg.

Ben Davis will most likely get in finals. Brownsburg will probably be the other group if I had to guess. Didn't someone say they added a sixth spot to finals? I think there are enough good groups going to justify that.

I'd LOVE to see Castle in finals. They're a very friendly group and always a lot of fun to watch. I hosted their Single-Gender group several years ago and enjoyed every minute. Does Woody still choreograph both groups?

Concert Choir:

Ben Davis Purple Aires
Heritage Christian
Brownsburg Madrigals

Womens' Show Choir: (REALLY TOUGH event)

Carmel Accents
Lawrence Central Sweet Sensations
Ben Davis Soundsations

( the first two are a given in my opinion. Both placed in top 3 in state last year and Sweet Sensations are doing pretty well this year. Brownsburg's girls groups will be fighting for that last spot.

I'd give Zionsville One of those Concert Choir positions. They are bringing their concert choir to this competition. Don't count them out.

First of all, I'd like to say I'm incredibly excited for this competition. NC's comps have been consistently my favorite year after year.

As far as predictions go, mine are as follows in no particular order:

Franklin Central
Carmel
Lawrence Central

I think those are definitely going to get in. The last two spots are probably going to be between Ben Davis, Plainfield, Castle, and Brownsburg.

Best of luck to everyone! I can't wait!

The biggest issue about being the earliest performance time, besides less-than-optimal voices, is the sound tech. Last year at ISSMA, Descants were the first female group at 8:50 and the techies at Ball State did nothing close to a quality sound check. Levels were horrible.

Don't worry, though, Carmel! We're going to do a sound check on the stage beforehand with our own choir, so it'll be set up all nice and ready! With mics on!

Normally I would have Zionsville in finals, but their show was way below normal Zionsville caliber...I live in Zionsville currently, so I was rooting for them. But their performance at Ben Davis left me...shocked at how incredibly awkward and the teeniest bit offensive it was (mostly 'Everything Old Is New Again').

hey, im a member of royalaires, and i agree with you. Our performance @ Ben Davis was absoultely horrid. Nothing went right, and we frankly sucked. But in the last 2 weeks we changed a whole bunch of stuff. Everything Old is almost completely cut down(aka no more cheezy rap and river dance sections), and our vocals are very much improved. Not to mention that most of our choreo has been revised or cleaned extensively. Be on the look out for us @ NC. We are not the same group that showed up @ Ben Davis

I think because of performance times we could see FC in First place going into finals, But i think either Carmel will be Exhausted and have a difficult time on stage

I think it's a little naïve to say that the performance time has no bearing on the scores. In theory, it shouldn't, but there are a lot of factors to consider that negatively impact scoring for early morning groups.

However, it really only matters to groups that are on the brink of not making finals. I highly doubt Carmel will score too low to not make it in the top six.

The rankings for the day show, prior to finals, are irrelevent. (I remember going to a contest where we were in First Place going into finals, and ended up in Fourth Place at the end of the night.)

MIC is always great contest and I'm really looking forward to it. I have confidence that North Central is making progress on their visuals and prove they will be a serious contender in Chicago.

Good luck everyone!

I think because of performance times we could see FC in First place going into finals, But i think either Carmel will be Exhausted and have a difficult time on stage, or they COULD step it up huge and Get the GC:

How much do you think performance times effect the results? i'd think it would make a big difference.

GC: Camel/FC
1RU: FC/Carmel
2RU: LC
3RU: Zionsville
4RU: Brownsburg
5RU: Plainfield

Vocals: too close to call
Choreo: FC
Band: Carmel

Performance time has NOTHING to do with how well you do. I was in a girls group and a mixed group so I've definitely hit both ends of the spectrum. And depending on the individual, sometimes people in groups with later performance time build up nerves and freeze up onstage. With Carmel being the caliber of group that they are and a performance time of 8:50, I HIGHLY doubt the time slot will affect them at all.

In regards to predictions, Lawrence North shocked me a couple years ago at LC because I had heard nothing about them and simply wrote them off and they were phenomenal. I would go:
GC: Carmel
1RU: FC
2RU: BD/LC
3RU: LC/BD
4RU: Brownsburg/Plainfield/LN
(they normally have 6 finalists but the official schedule says 5)

The final three spots in finals are totally open. I haven't seen Ben Davis or Lawrence Central's shows but they are (generally) good groups....(they have both had a few bad shows in the past 6 or so years, but who hasnt?). I like Brownsburg's show (saw it at BD) and I expect with some cleaning they can possibly make finals. Again, haven't seen Plainfield's but their choreo is generally clean and cute so they are a possibility as well.

Does anyone know if the judges will be awarding best female and male soloist for during the show? They didn't at LC, and I was surprised...

Predictions (In no specific order)

Plainfield
Carmel
Lawrence Central
Ben Davis
Between Lawrence North and Mooresville for 5th spot

I don't think people take into consideration that some of these choirs have gotten low scores in previous competitions this year. Others have a bit more of a chance than some of those that are named above. I'm not going to say choir names because I am not here to start anything bad. Just, who knows .

i don't understand. carmel is the defending state champs and they perform at 8:50 in the morning??? that's probably the earliest i've ever seen a group of their caliber perform. why so early?

lol could it be revenge from north central after they lost to carmel last year? " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

If I'm not mistaken I believe that NC gives performance times based on when you send in your registration. So groups who register earlier get later times and vice versa. I assume that Carmel was one of the last groups to send in it's registration thus they get the early morning time slots!

Mixed Show Choir:

Carmel Ambassadors
Lawrence Central Central Sound
Franklin Central Singers
Ben Davis Premiers
Mooresville Spotlighters

(I think the first four slots are given (definetly the first two). West Jones and Plainfield both have a very good chance of getting that 5th and final spot.
