i agree. many of the choirs that were in the top stood and clapped for groups that should have been. i personally felt better for having the respect of my peers than from any judge. it was great seeing choirs that are typically a-wholes clap for groups and not jus look at them smugly.
i do feel that the juging, not only at state, but at other comps was horible too!!! forexample MIC. its was crazy and CG was too. i missed most of the central sound classic because of a track meet and didnt see any day time performances and only saw CP in finals so idk how the judging was there but i dont think many groups complained.
i would love for judges to be more objective in judging and judge for quality of performance and not preference of songs/ choreo as money so do.

I personally don't like the state comp because it’s not real. Many of the top groups don't attend and the judging is horrible.
It was actually 4 GC's for FC last year... A RECORD for the school, and they were one of only 2 choirs to win that many GC's if i remember right

3 points on the issma scoresheet IS close... But we all know the ISSMA sheet is a joke, and the Larger (non founder directed) choirs have been reluctant to go for some reason... I'm not sure what it is... but i'm pretty sure there's a reason it took HN and FC so long to accept their position at state. I'm also pretty sure there's a reason FC beat Everyone EXCEPT North Central and Carmel at a competition prior to last season's State competition, went UNDEFEATED never travelling out of indiana, and then didn't make finals...

I am so glad that the group that won BEST VOCALS won. It shows that a show choir doesnt have to have money, super huge poofs, a million props, men in a girls group show, a orchestra behind you.... THANK THE LORD.

girls- character voices for almost the whole show... PLEASE.. thats not really singing. How can they judge them. But the set was amazing.

Hey, so I understand that this is showchoir.com, but I really want to give props to Heritage Christian's Colla Voce. They have an awesome set and are working wonders with it!
The thing we compete in is called "Show Choir". I've seen choirs play to the audience so much to get them into the show and they do time after time. The thing is though they forget to show the judges why they should really win. Why they should get marked in box 5 if they can. As example Warren Central 08-09'. I love their show and they consistently place high in vocals but the choreography is a crowd pleaser not necessarily a judge appeaser. Everyone has a great show this year. That's why these competitions are so close. It can sway from weekend to weekend just based off a groups work ethic, and even the judgeing panel. I know so sad to say yet so true. I don't see why everyone should be up in arms about how one competition went. Had it gone in BD's or CG's there would still be controversial talk.
Im sorry to be a little negative but Center Grove was so much more entertaining and well-prepared.meaning being clean and great vocals. L.C they were good but the only thing worth seeing is the opener :/ this sounds harsh but many people feel the same way ..Congrads on winning though...oh and Ben Davis...love ya'll lol the opener vocals "WOW" ..and alot of great performers

This goes back to the days when he was at Columbia City, I have no idea what he's thinking... it's almost like his trademark. Aside from that, the group did an excellent job. Everyone seemed to have fun and performed well. I would have had them a close second behind Center Grove.
This is an interesting comment/observation since I have only had one other "backdrop" and that was at Churubusco in 2003...
My students put on great shows and we were honored to be with such great competition : }

I have to say that I have never seen such a great performance by the Purple Aires Concert choir. I attended the finals performance and was blown away. This was such a great competition this year. Efficiently run as well. CG, BD, your shows are so great in their own way. The competion was very close would'nt have had it any other way.

and i def. liked ending with the ballad...
how did it go with switching it around, though? other than it being a little awkward for the audience... like, did you guys like it better?
I think there was no doubt that center Grove took the mixed division. I will give credit to LC they have a amazingly clean show but it just isn't that fun to watch if you ask me i have seen LC and CG at least 6 times each and LC show is just not that fun CG show is fun every time i watch it and the visuals are amazing. On the topic of vocals LC is better but not that much better. Overall i just think CG puts on a better show and was without a doubt they best group there. And just to let everyone know the final point margin between LC and Cg was .6 yes thats right 6 tenths of a point separated first and second so defiantly was a great competion.
Central Sound is 3-0 for a reason an were in 2nd goin into finals so clearly u watched a diff performance then the judges did. central sound always has great vocals its one of the strengths an jena Adrianson akes sure of that. its amazing how ppl always dwn CS. even in 2006 when we won MIC an by a big margin. the vocals judge jumped up an clapped which doesn happen and we still had ppl sayin we shoulda done worse. an groups like CP who do great shows but have abu 4 parts in there music an very little dynamics are loved by fans. i love cp an havent seen the show this yr so hopw u guys are doing well an can pull it together because i hear u arent up to the past couple of yrs but idk.
central sound has wrked they're asses off for the past 7 or so yrs to be the best and have consitently been in the top at many comps they have beaten,CP, HN, CG, BD, WC, illinois an iowa groups and almost beat attache yet no one wants to give them props. what is the issue? is it because they dont do new school stuff or jus do things for entertainment for the crowed? i will alwyas be proud alumni of CS and good job guys my senior yr was great although many judges ddnt care for the show they loved the ballad an its soemthin that no group in aindy other than a carmel or HN could pull off so god job fror 2008 an show thse haters jsut how good we are. you guys will do amazing at showstoppers orlando an then come back an take state!!!!!!'

To "Lifestyle": I never claimed to be an esteemed adjudicator, nor was I trying to undermine any of the judges. It's a show choir forum, I was just giving my opinion. Read the very first line of my post.
I don't think Lawrence Central was bad by any stretch. I didn't feel like giving a detailed breakdown of each group on here so I just mentioned the things that stuck out in my head. The show wasn't bad and third place certainly isn't a bad thing either. If you watch the tape from finals, you'll see what I'm talking about with the back row, and the girl's sound about halfway through. Judge for yourself.
I'm sure the judges gave you guys some good constructive comments to work on, and hopefully the show will get continue to improve and you guys will rock the next show. Great job last night.
