I personally do not think that the scoring system needs to be looked at. Each competition is different, and each host group puts together judging sheets by what they feel is important in a good show choir.

Considering I am a senior in the group that fell to this so called "issue", and I am not complaining about it, I don't see why people who aren't even affected by this are getting bent out of shape about the judging system. I am not mad at all at Rob or Grand River, because of what they feel is important in a good show. I will quote my post from earlier
QUOTE
Points are points no matter where they come from, and you won!!
(written in a post to Totino)

Its the truth, and people not affected by this should just calm down.

And to echo others... thanks Rob and the rest of Grand River for hosting an amazing competition. Even with our final results, I know that I performed my best show ever, and I will always remember my last competition as a great one!!!

Never take a small dog on an escalator. I have a bad story about that.

Don't take small children who are wearing Crocs onto escalators either...

I like escalators

I like escalators too, Derrick.

Now.......I wish we could focus on the positive, like, how great the talent was this past weekend, and how I hope everyone had a great time here in La Crosse at Grand River!

You are very welcome Wes! Yes, it was me who talked to your Mom. Nice lady. I will also send her an e-mail, but here is the website to order videos of the invitational for anyone else who might need it: www.visionsforthefuture.net

Have a great day!

Rob

Ben,

Scott has always posted our scores. If you noticed, Scott said on an earlier post that HE would post the results. That is his duty at the invitational. If you look at last year's post, Scott also posted the final results. That is what Scott likes to do and he has taken it as his responsibility.

I personnaly find no drama about the competition. It fell as the judges saw it. I was only answering a question that was posted. I didn't answer it in a hostle fashion. I am sorry you or anyone else perceived it that way. I was just explaining that this is the way we score and others will agree or disagree. While these results are out of the ordinary they have happened before. Damon already mentioned one account and this also happened to GCS in the late 90's. They won a competition without a single caption award. This is not the first nor will it be the last time this happens.

I do not appreciate an accusation that I have not handled this with class and respect. That statement seems to stem from a personal disatifaction on your behalf. I am not re-evaluating a scoring system I was only explaining it to a poster. I couldn't be more satisfied with the competition results and the high level of talent that was displayed Saturday. No matter what the outcome, all participants really gave a performance level that I have not seen at other competitions this year. It was simply amazing.

I resent the fact that you attacked with such comments on a public forum without personal messaging me, professional to professional. Class and respect? We should all practice what we preach.

Rob

By the way, we are already working on next years competition. It will be March 20th and 21st, 2009. Please put it on your schedule! You guys had a GREAT show this year!

Thanks for the kind words tacked on at the end. We'll pass. We don't like pie. I'd love to hear your other thoughts on professionalism. Feel free to PM me. I'm not sure what "personal disatifaction" you're referring to, but I'd love to discuss this further in a more secretive manner.

Rob,

I don't understand your hostility toward people who are questioning your scoresheets. I do however think it's a bit odd that you are only speaking up now on your competition's behalf. You were posting seemingly every day leading up to the competition, and now that some drama has surfaced, you seem almost embarassed by it. You were right there to answer every question people had, and after the fact you leave it up to Scott to post the scores, but then when the scoring system is questioned, you seemingly have nothing but anger for those inquiring. Please forgive everyone for being interested, but these kinds of results are just a bit out of the ordinary.

Both Milton and Totino's students have handled themselves with nothing but class and respect for each other. I only wish you could do the same. Afterall, it is your competition. If you're not satisfied with the outcome, then you should re-evaluate your scoring system. If you are satisfied, then move on to plans for next year and let the students involved continue to appreciate each other.

i dont think that Rob was intending to come off rude at all. i read his comment and i personally found nothing rude about it. he was just explaining how the judging was at this competition and the philosophy behind it. i agree with the comment above on how both milton and totino handled themselves very maturely as i was there and witnessed it. i dont agree on the fact that you say that Rob should handle himself with class, because HE DOES. he was merely answering a question and without you hearing him actually SAY his answer, you have no idea as to the tone, attitude, or amount of class used in the answer. that is not possible to do on a computer with type. i dont mean to sound crabby or snotty but the comment above really made me uneasy and i wanted to put my opinion in. because honestly, i believe that if the top 2 spots hadn't turned out the way it did, no one would really REALLY care about the judging system and no one would make a big deal about it. it's usually different at each invite my choir goes to and it's something everyone has to live with....

i think that this competition was ran very well and, regardless of the amazing/extremely unexpected outcome, everyone had fun and (as you above me said) handled themselves with tons of class and respect.

wow is the combo just as important as the choreo in this competition?

As a matter of fact, each element on a judges ballot must fit together like pieces of a pie with vocals just being a little larger slice. We at Grand River feel Combo IS an incredibly important piece of that pie, as is Choreography and a combination of other elements that make up our Other category ( including transitions, pace, total effect, costumes and facial projection).

We at Grand River score daytime and finals and believe the points should dictate the outcome. That is our philosophy. That is simply how WE do it.
