Ohio has more points devoted to vocals, and I may be wrong, but isn't F.C. a choir well known for their vocal performance? They did a great job a Piqua last week and I am sure they will step it up and perform just as well or better at Edgewood tomorrow. But saying that they didn't do as well because the competition was in Ohio doesn't really make sense, because they should have been able to dominate with the vocal sound that they produce. Also it was said earlier that F.C. could have done better with a more diverse group of choirs. I don't know about anyone else, but i felt that the styles presented at Piqua were all very different, and exceptional!!! I will completely agree with osumondo in saying that Fairfield's energy is comparable with that of eisenhower's, and that Ohio groups and what they are all about should not be grouped together. P.S. good luck to all of the performing choirs this weekend, and I cannot wait to see EEE b/c I haven't seen them live since 2005 Love to all and Good Luck

Speaking on behalf of Franklin Central's FC Singers, let me say the judging panel at Piqua last week was totally fair and totally competent. At Edgewood this weekend, it's another completely great judging panel that we look forward to receiving feedback from. Some people look for alterior motives in why judging turned out a certain way, and I guess that's human nature. However, the panel at Piqua featured a number of wonderful, nationally respected adjudicators (among them David Legg from West Virginia, Verda Slinkard from Indiana and Mike Crandall from Ohio) that all offered reasonable, logical and helpful criticisms of our show. They also offered appropriate amounts of praise and compliments where they felt they were deserved.

FC Singers thank Piqua for holding a well-run competition and hiring an excellent judging panel. We're working hard to improve all elements of our show, just like every other group out there, and we wish all groups we compete against nothing but the best.

Please realize the people that speak about FC on this and other threads are former, not current members of the group, and do not reflect the group's opinions or beliefs. Just like every other group, we try our hardest and hope people like what we do. God Bless and good luck in your competitions this coming weekend. Damon Brown GO COLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really all i meant is that if you look at a Fairfield Show, a Marysville show, a Findlay show, a Twinsburg show... The style is Completely different from ANY damon show... His choreography is just a lot more... i don't know how to say it... Spastic? that sounds like it's a bad thing, but i don't mean It that way, i just mean that it was definately obvious the difference between the styles between the 3 ohio choirs and FC that were at Piqua... and i thought that if the judges had been different, OR there had been a more diverse group of choirs, the results could have easily been different... but thats any competition in the world... SO anyway...

ok, i gotta chime in. i don't buy the whole "ohio groups, ohio judging panel" explanation. i realize it's early in the year and maybe not many people have seen fairfield's show, but i think that most would agree that it's much closer in style to an eisenhower or buffalo grove than a twinsburg and definitely worlds apart from a findlay show. in fact, now that i think about it, the top groups in ohio all have very different "styles", historically speaking, so i have to respectfully disagree wth that school of thought.

on a side note, if you are headed to edgewood this saturday, drive safe and good luck to all groups!

i don't understand this wording. if you take Marysville's opener as an example, you are looking at a number with a more moderate tempo, but i would still describe the choreography and facial performance as energetic. the same applies with numbers like Fairfield's opener, which, while undoubtedly having a darker mood and intenisty unlike that of typical show choir, still features very sharp, energetic dancing.

And no... i didn't mean it as a bad thing (about marysville)... I effing loved you and think you should win the world... I just think that (just like clinton) You are beatable...

I feel like i have to analyze my wording so much on here... i hate text... LOL

Scott, I agree with your post and in last years show when Franklin Central tried a Laidback Jazzy opener, it was DEFINATELY more appropriate to use a laidback effortless approach to the song... But this years show is completely opposite of that. Think Eisenhowers show 2005...

The Judging panel at Piqua last week was heavily Ohioan... Most of the great choirs in Ohio tend to have a more Laidback style, whereas... if you watch FC... they attack everything... they are energetic, emphatic and... I was looking for another E word but i couldn't think of one that didn't mean the same as those other 2... lol

I think this next week will be a very different scenario than last week just because of the groups that are competing...

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!! and Especially to the FC SINGERS!!! woohoo

Oversinging, pushing, rushing tempo - all can be a result of too much energy. Certain styles of music also require a relaxed performance; jazz and blues for instance. And nothing is worse than over-eager facial expression and unnatural hyped "emoting" either.
