yeah... those are some pretty harsh accusations...

i sure hope you were 100% sure of that.

luckily you arent "affiliated" with any one choir.
for that would hurt everyone's opinion of them...

and was posting that even really necessary? its over and done with... life goes on ;)

so... lets just hope you werent making false accusations or under false pretenses...

thanks for complimenting Colerain though. They were pretty bummed, but their season will continue and they will learn from their mistakes and downfalls and practice so hard for the next competitions where they face similar opponents.

congrats to everyone at Poca! great competition! best of luck to everyone in their seasons!!!

This competition was already decided before it even started. I was just informed that the director at Poca just placed choirs in whatever order he wanted them to perform. Rather you submitted your information in August or in December it did not matter b/c he placed the choirs where he wanted them. Usually the performance schedule is decided by the order in which you submit your information. So basically he placed the bigger power house choirs at the end of the day. This puts the smaller choirs at a huge disadvantage. Not to mention the fact that it's straight up rude. Second, who charges $12 to get into an overcrowded gym? If your going to invite 16 choirs from three different states at least make sure you can handle them.

BTW - Colerain, you guys should have been in finals. Your show was really good. I personally had you guys ahead of Cabell Midland and Edgewood. Nothing against those groups but vocally you were much stronger.

Wow, this was a really great competition, I took the time to come down from Ohio to see it (well, actually, it was just the closest competition to me). Here's a few of my critiques:

Cabell Midland- this was one of the first times I'd seen you, but I saw you last year and I must say...what an improvement! You're slowly becoming a very recognized choir and I definitely think you'll start to find yourselves making finals regularly. A few complaints, watch your diction, I know you like to make sure you're enunciating words, but make sure it's together. The "ck" sound or "t" sound loses its empasis when you don't do it at the same time. Also, I know that diction is important, but don't make it sound completely unlike the song "You Ain't Nuthin' But a Hound Dog" is just that...every word doesn't have to be changed to have good diction. But overall, just a huge improvement, and your parents were so nice!

Edgewood- I really thought you would place higher today. I loved the show. There's a kid in the front on the "stranger" song that I can't keep my eyes off of because his facials are so hilarious. But so much energy up there on the stage, and it really looks like you're having a blast. The choreography is pretty basic, but you still execute it well. I really like you guys and you all totally deserved the Sportsmanship award yesterday.

Garfield Heights- Wow! The first time I saw you guys, it was basically your first year in show choir, and now...look how far you've come. I really enjoyed the show. However, you all tend to do the same moves over and over. I feel like sometimes, when you don't have another move to do, you just spin around (I counted 27 times the first two songs). Additionally, sometimes, you make your vocals so intense and quiet you almost can't hear it, but Separate Ways vocals were very strong at the end, and so that was nice to see that you weren't sounding tired in the end. And what can I say, SuperGeek was great...so on the overall show, I'd say it was the 2nd strongest of the day!

St. Albans- Great job again you guys. I actually enjoyed this show more than last years simply because you danced more. Vocals were less than last year, but that sometimes happens when you dance more. The theme was cool, but that "tick tick tick" thing in the girl's number drives me nothing short of crazy. Once again, the choreography is basic up until around the last song. The instrumentalists sound phenomenal, and so did your soloists. I'm glad to see that last year wasn't just a fluke, as you all seem to be a consistent performing group!

Capital- This was also one of the first times I'd really seen you, but it was a good show overall. Sometimes, your vocals and choreography gets meshed and you really can't understand what you're saying. I liked the theme, but be careful (like Cabell Midland) when you finish "ck" on "magic." I know you want the diction to be there, but if you're going to do it, make sure it's completely together or the entire effect is lost. I thought the show kinda lost steam around the boys number, but it was still a very good show overall.

Hurricane- Wow! I'm sure you all heard this, but it was really a race for second yesterday. Your choreography is just...incredible, it's so smooth, but crisp. And my gosh, your vocals...it was just sick, I thought, there's no way they can go into this next-to-last number and still have energy left (One Vision I believe) and the rest of the show ended up having the strongest vocals. Great job turning an awesome closer (the Van Halen Song) into a sweet opener! Instrumentalists (especially that trumpet player in Paradise City) sounded great. The girl's number was great too, but at times could be a little pitchy, but nevertheless, it was one of the highlights of your show. The rest of your schedule is a dog-fight this year, so don't let down, because you really have the opportunity to turn some heads this year.

And finally, my placements:

1) Hurricane
2) Garfield
3) Edgewood
4) Capital/St. Albans
5) Capital/St. Albans
6) Cabell Midland

very glad to see St. Albans in finals after hearing that they might be having some difficulty this year. and it is interesting to see the absence of Morgantown, but moreso, to see Colerain not make the cut - they were one school i thought had a pretty good lock on a finals spot. anyone see their show, care to comment?

Although I was very disappointed that Nitro did not make finals after winning GC of their class, I was very surprised that Colerain did not make finals. Congratulations to all the groups that made finals!

I think that Hurricane will win GC but I am rooting for Capital and my new Garfield Heights buddies.
