and regarding the water, the toilets worked, and it didn't seem like the water was that much of a problem at all... i think it would be funny though if we saw kids going to the bathrooms in the porta potties on the MTV show, just for laughs... but it was very impressive that the Poca guys got those potties there overnight and were prepared to have a competition without water.

Does anyone have daytime and final scores?

I forgot to thank Poca for a good competition. There were issues that I had but in a small venue it is to be expected. The weather, the tent , the staging area, and the water were the main issues but that was no one's fault.

Any opinions on Nitro?

Again congratuations to all of the groups!

I think that nitro has come a long way, and with the new choreographer and show design everything was very catchy and Dave Leggish...but I really like that.

Congratulations to all of who made it to finals!!!!!!

Just wondering what you think about MO-TOWns show???

Morgantown- I thought that overall, you all had a pretty good show. But it was a little non-conventional and I think that in a way, that's a difficult show to pull off. Don't get me wrong though, I really like non-conventional shows because it shows the versatility of a show choir. A few things though...First, the director in the crowd was extremely distracting. Not even because he was down there, but his directing cues were REALLY extravagant. Additionally, that takes away from a ballad, because to a lot of people, it appears that you can't "do it yourself." Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against choirs that choose to do that, but it does take away from the show a little.

I thought your opening soloist was phenomenal, and, being a bit of a band nerd at one point, did enjoy the drumming session at the end of the show, along with the song selections. I think that at this point, you have the concept there, it's just about tightening the screws, because there's a lot of potential in the show. Just get back to the fundamentals, improving singing while dancing and backing the instrumentalists off a little if you can't sing louder, because it tends to get a little jumbled. But once again, great job overall..

This competition was pretty fun, it just sucked about the water thing and that during daytime awards we had to watch from our homeroom. it wasn't as fun to hear our name called for finals watching it on TV, but i had fun overall.
I met some really nice people from Winston-Churchill and Morgantown. it was also really cool to get the Sportsmanship award. my group loves to meet new people! Thanks for a great competition Poca!

yea that had 2 suck...and trust me...they all felt bad that it happend and stuff..they (poca) felt pretty crappy about it

to allison: the reason that the kids were taken out was because of the space issue in our gym...it sucks that this has to be done, but its understandable...they look at it in the sense that if someone paid for a wristband, they should get to watch " border="0" alt="homestar.gif" />

this was probably the best organized competition i have seen in a while, considering the circumstances

1st...they had already rented out the Keith Albee Theatre in Huntington which is a very large and nice auditorium (site of the marshall movie premier also, so that should say enough there)..they canceled on poca about 3 weeks before i think, so considering they had to get a stage and order lights and all that stuff in 3 weeks, a GREAT job by poca..

2nd...the water situation was unfortunate, but lucky that got fixed soon enough, so i dont think that was a big probably anyways

3rd...im pretty sure Kincaid does his placings by the order people send in his stuff, so that comment really has no standing and from wat i can tell, nobobdy cares either haha..so thats good..

but as for everything else, GREAT job by absolutely EVERYONE!!...great day!!

I think they got second runner up in their class....which class they are in, I'm not sure.

Morgantown did not place in their class. Second runner up was Edgewood, first runner up was St Albans and GC was Hurricane for Class B. They did get best female soloist. I'm not sure where they ended up at the end of the day.

Great job everyone!! Would have liked to see more groups perform, but, hey, what can you do.
I'm part of vertigo, and since we aren't really part of a school, this is the only competition we get to go to..which is kind of sad. But it was fun.

I found it rather odd that about halfway through the day they announced that only people who had payed could remain in the gym .... no show choir members.
Isn't most of the fun of competitions getting to see the other choirs? Isn't is amazing when people you don't even know cheer for you?
My friends and I decided to stay in the gym surreptitiously in order to see Nitro ... and we ended up staying in there until awards since they weren't allowing anyone back in. We were able to see everyone, but it was odd because the audience was pretty much dead. No offense to the parents, but it's truly electrifying when there's screaming going on in the audience.

To Nitro: You should have made finals. Your show is truly amazing and all of your soloists were wonderful. Great job!

To Morgantown: You guys are really good, but I think you should have stuck with showtunes. Maybe it's because I really don't like it when show choirs do rap/hip-hop songs. At any rate, best wishes with the rest of your competitions and have fun with the MTV Show Choir thing. I wish you could have had a more excited crowd.

By the way, since I'm "Not Listed", I'm from Marietta. We're not very good, in case you're wondering. Our music program is horrible and our director is unorganized. We watch everyone else and wish we could be better. " border="0" alt="ermm.gif" />

This competition was already decided before it even started. I was just informed that the director at Poca just placed choirs in whatever order he wanted them to perform. Rather you submitted your information in August or in December it did not matter b/c he placed the choirs where he wanted them. Usually the performance schedule is decided by the order in which you submit your information. So basically he placed the bigger power house choirs at the end of the day. This puts the smaller choirs at a huge disadvantage. Not to mention the fact that it's straight up rude. Second, who charges $12 to get into an overcrowded gym? If your going to invite 16 choirs from three different states at least make sure you can handle them.

BTW - Colerain, you guys should have been in finals. Your show was really good. I personally had you guys ahead of Cabell Midland and Edgewood. Nothing against those groups but vocally you were much stronger.

Number one, you need to watch what you say.... Your information should have been coming from a credible source, for you to come out here and say that.... Another thing, $12 is nothing for day and finals.... And if you bought your ticket you had a seat, if you didn't hold onto your seat the whole day, that was your fault.... Now, I didn't think it was the best venue, nor did I like the fact that the kids had to leave the gym, but they did the best they could with what they had, and I found it was very hard for them to make us and MTV happy.... It's not easy to have a production team at a competition.... But in all, I think this is one of the better run competitions I've ever been to...

And Colerain, as much as they have a rich history, in my mind was beaten fairly by Edgewood and Cabell Midland. Yes, there vocals were good, but show concept, and choreography was real rough for Colerain. They deserved a 6th or 7th spot. Cabell and Colerain were very close, but on this day it was Cabell's spot.

As far as the order goes...well that is not a deciding factor in who the judges give the highest score to (everyone performs their show). And as a alumnus, this was the first competiton I've attended that I've had to pay to get into, and if it cost $30 to sit in a crowded gym and watch show choirs all day with other crazy show choir people then I would. Poca, you guys have once again done a great job organizing a competiton from the front office to the backstage dads everything was first class and very professional. Except for the fact MTV was there running around, but you know how that goes. " border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

Now seriously.

#1- A director who runs a competition can do whatever he or she wants with the schedule of competing groups. It may not be "fair" to just place groups where they want, but it happens enough. There is no set way to put choirs in order. Some do it in order of registration, some do it that the past years finalists get to perform in order of 1st goes last, 2nd goes second to last, etc. if they come back. and then the rest however (or back to registration order), some draw out of a hat. By the way... who were you "informed" by, how would a person know what the director did?

#2- At Sauk Prairie this year tickets were $14.00 for the overcrowded gym. What do you expect? This is show choir we are in. The early bird gets the worm.
