Hey all, quick question before I add the prep groups. Is there a 9th grade division or just a general prep division? Last year's Supernova apparently just had a prep division, but there has been chat of a 9th grade division so I just wanted to double check. And if there is a 9th grade division, is that just "Vivace" and "Chanteurs"?

Agreed Jay! A good number of "prep" groups would be considered 9th grade then (even with upper classmen). I know there are some groups that specifically ONLY have 9th graders (I know johnston has a group like that), but I am sure there aren't many of them.

right Kevin! I believe Chanteurs at Kennedy is still 9th only. I'm not sure what Wash will do next year, since we only have sophomores in Vivace due to high enrollment in show choirs, and we'll have a large senior class leaving after this year.

Predictions:

GC: CR Kennedy (BV)
1RU: Hastings (BC)
2RU: Urbandale
3RU: Bemidji
4RU: IC High (BB)
5RU: Davenport Central

These are going to probably be COMPLETELY wrong. Most of the reason for this is because of Ankeny Centennial. I really don't know how they are going to come out of the gate right after the split. I do really have high hopes though. I am rooting for them to make it to the finals here! I will have a better feel of how they are after Viterbo the previous week. CR Wash also has a small chance of slipping into the finals as well. I am so excited!

GC: CR Kennedy
1RU:Ankeny Centennial
2RU: City High
3RU: Davenport Central

I am happy that Supernova is incorporating a Prep Exhibition into the finals this year. I always love competitions that do that. It really allows good prep groups to perform another show that they really deserve. It also gives them a bit more experience for when members move to the varsity group and have to perform in finals regularly. It is just overall an awesome thing for prep groups to experience.

It seems to me like a LOT of prep groups would qualify as 50% freshmen. However, the rule is fine by me!! Thanks!

When I've registered my groups for competitions, the rule that I have come across with the 9th Division is that if the prep group is made up of over 50% freshmen, they can qualify for that class. Of course, the rule is at the invitational's discretion.

well I know that Hi-Style, Linn-Mar's "9th Grade" group has never only had freshmen in it. You will often still find a few juniors and even seniors in the group. So Hi-Style has always performed in the "9th Grade" Division without problem, so I highly doubt that Vivace will have one either

I just assumed the choirs went in order of "tiering". For instance, Vivace will go first for Wash, not Celebration. Davenport Central's first slot must be their prep. And I assume Ankeny Centennial's girls group will be the first Ankeny group to go and that the Urbandale choirs are switched. I'll post an assumed corrected schedule on here later tonight.

I do have a question for Mr. Anderson (though it's not urgent). For the first time since 98 Vivace is not exclusively freshmen. Is Vivace in a 9th only division? There are only a handful of sophomores so I don't even know whether it matters either way.

The schedule is really confusing. There are varsities and preps scattered throughout the day at very unusual times. Davenport Central's varsity is listed twice. CR Washington Celebration is listed twice.

yes we will get the mix-ups worked out eventually, but that is where the good schedule will be able to be found in the future

Predictions (that are obviously way to early to be even moderately accurate but they're still fun)
GC: Hastings/Urby
1RU: Urby/Hastings
2RU: Kennedy
3RU: Ankeny Cent
4RU: Davenport Central
5RU: IC High

Honestly there are 7 groups that could definitely win this competition and it's great to see linn-Mar pull in such a crowd!

Wow been awhile since I've been on the forum! Just curious who is attending this competition! I am sure I will make my way here since it is right up the road and it is always one of my favorite competitions to watch each year!
