So what'd everyone think of the Mt. Zion Invitational last night? I was there all day from the mixed groups all the way til the end of the awards. Being an alumni, I TOTALLY missed being up there on stage, singing and dancing. It was great to get back into the groove of show choir again, being a viewer instead of a performer. That was really different for me. I definitely thought that every group got what they deserved, but thought danville was slightly better than Sullivan, who really disappointed me this year in all my years of watching show choir. I even called 5th runner up all the way up to Grand Champion correctly, and I wasn't even going into the competition with a favorite group. I was trying to be as fair as possible, being an audience member. So those that were there, what'd ya'll think?

Foghorn and 420Maria04 need to either stop posting or learn how to judge groups because those were the worst critiques I have seen of this competition. I thought the only change that should have happened was that Crete should have placed higher than Sullivan. Onalaska was the best group competing there last night and toatally deserved first place, anyone who says they didnt is wrong plain and simple. Suki, not sure on spelling, is the best dancer in the world by the way and sarah is the best singer. And why is everyone critqing Mt. Zion. They weren't competing so obviously they werent concentrating on every little detail about their show they were just enjoying the crowd and having fun so their miniscule vocal problems are excused. I guess being the best dancers in show choir isn't good enough for those who are jealous.

Yeah, many of you are gonna give me crap for that, but just shut up because that's the truth and Ona deserved it so don't even bother posting.

Well..where to start? Let me first start off by saying that Mt Zion did a great job this year running the competition. Everything went well and ran smoothly.. great Job!

I was lucky enough to attend the competition the entire day.. Performing in the afternoon, catching some afternoon shows and then watching Finals..And this is what i have to say..

Onalaska Hilltoppers- first off let me say that your best vocals award is well deserved. You quality of singing was stable throughout your whole show.. paul is doing some awesome things with your vocals. Your Choreography was relatively good, great execution - You can def tell what numbers were choreographed by dwight and which ones were done by that other guy. Overall Awesome enegegy through out the entire show, your closer was rockin..cept ive seen that choreo somewhere before...Your ballad soloist is amazing, she deserved every award she took home this weekend! Costumes were unique. In my opinion i would have place you guys in the 1st Runner Up spot.

EEE - One word. WOW. ok maybe two words. AMAZING. You guys were definitly rockin the house in both your day show and your night show. you were NAILING your choreo like it was no ones business. Scott is doing some awesome stuff with you guys.. You opened your show unlike any other group, which stood you apart. Your combo was amazing - good use of combo-choreo connection.. not overdone like the weaver groups. Another thing - you guys have great solo voices in your choir.. there was a moment in your show where i heard like 4 awesome solos in row.. Your energy is unstoppable! Keep up the awesome job guys. I would have placed you in the Grand Champion Spot.

Totino - Very very entertaining show. When i saw you guys in the day, your show was pretty good. It gained energy has the show progressed. Awesome job on Hernando, you performed that well and pulled off the disappearing act very nicely. Your ballad was awesome. Probaly the best tone i heard all day...(note i said day, not night) Now you guys know i wanted you to take this competition, but i feel that during your night show, you werent giving 110%. As the show went on your vocals decreased and near the end of the closer..they were still good but not what i saw in the day. Some Choreo wasnt as sharp either during your night show. During the day I feel you deserved to be 2nd to onalaska. But Night show i would have to put you guys in 3rd Runner up.

Crete - I like your show, you guys performed it well and i am happy to see you doing your swing number.. variety is good! Your choreo was def. different in a medium-good way. Grreat job, i just feel that among these groups with 62 singer dancers, you just dont have the power of voices they do. But i did notice that almost everyone of your singer/dancers were on the whole show, i could tell you guys wanted it and were giving it your all. I think you were good in the 5th Runner Up Spot.

Twinsburg - Looooove The opener. I would have taken the temp up a little, because i feel it would have driven your energy levels up a bit more when singing "Life is a highway".. I would also like to say that when your show turns to the whole racing stuff... is really cool. Very Very unique way to approach this subject. Your transistion into this part of show was AWESOME.. at first i was liek this sounds weird.. but it was so cool. Good use of the Synth in the second half of your show.. VERY effective with choreo. Once again, AMAZING DANCE BREAK... you guys def. pull off the ripple effect. Although at times, the drag strip light thing was relatively bright, i feell the increase in speed with your dancing was really effective. In addition to all the other awesome combos tonight yours was RIGHT up there with the top. I would have placed you guys in the 2nd Runner Up Spot.

Sullivan - You guys had a very entertaing shows. but I think that Mr. M has gone a little overboard this year. Granted you guys always have the big set changes and stuff (which is ok). I was just very unhappy with the amount of crap you brought out onto the stage. Alright wait.. i dont wanna sound like a hypoctie, but i LOVED the huge Piano thing with the people inside, and the effective use of dancing on it. This is one of those shows they Audience will love, but the judges will see it and be entertained but know that according to the score sheet...they need alot of work. At times i feel your stag crew is more important then your singer/dancers. I also do not think that it is completely necs. to change for nearly every song. Gentlemen, work on disposing your huge fur jackets and hats.. throwing them about and depending on your poor stage crew to handle them is not the answer.. i was highly dissapointed with the execution of your show. ALSO, part of your backdrop was falling in during your day show and you didnt fix it for your night show.. not cool. See with all this i forget your singing and dancing..hmm.? Out with the Gawdy, i want the classy sophisticated sullivan back. I would have placed you guys 4th Runner Up.

Well that is my thought on the finalist groups. Plain and simple

Soon i should have my pictures of all Finals groups online - i have great pictures.

Someone posted earlier 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th place (I am WAY too lazy n tired to go back and find it) but there was a mistake. Crete-Monee Faces placed 8th in the open competition. I saw the scoresheets last night. Just wanted to make that clear.

Now that everyone has established who won. here is what i think

-Sullivan's show was quite boring. that is all i can say. sorry but i had no fun watching it at all. The kids did well, it was just,O MANY PROPS!
-Crete, good job. u should have beaten Sullivan
-Totino, For some reason had trouble watching your show. the twin thing was reallly funny and the doll was cute. but it got a little boring to me. But you all did a greeat job and deserved third.
-EEE, Wow! I thought Onalaska would take it. But u were realllllllly gooood. It was a battle, just like it should have been. I could see the GC going to u, But there were some "screw ups" in finals that just messed up the show a lil' bit. The Crazy in love thing has to Go, IT TAKES AWAY FROOM THE SHOW. SCOTT, IF U READ THIS, FIX IT!!!!!!! I Love Elliot Robinson. U R THE FRIGGING MAN. I watched your solo in the morning and u made me cry my friggin eyes out. Great job on the solo. "TELL Me My fatherrrr, Tell me HOwwww LONGGGG" Rumble rumble.... And good job on your little in the show solo. "crazy little thing called LOVE"
-Onalaska, U Guys were awesome!!!!! Don't worry about what anyone says, your show is grrrreat. I love it and u guys were INTO IT. U had energy. By the way Sarah Brown and Luke ... were awesome!!! I love all your songs, and The GC was well deserved. But don't slack. u guys came very cose to getting beet by EEE. They are good and they cooked.
-Twins, I think your show is interesting. U and totino were really close in my opinion. Great job, keep working.
-Mt. Zion don't worry about what people say aboutbeig let down, u guy cooooooked. OMG you were amazing. what a wonderful job. U had me hopppppin in my seeat the whole time, encore!!!!! You guys will be awesome. your vocals are great, the ballad made me Cry so much, it was sooo awesome. keep it up guys, i ill be rooting for ya. good luck, and don' let anyone bring you down with there nonsense about your singing or anything that they want to say.

Mt. Zion was a great competition! Everyone did an amazing job!

Sullivan: I've always loved you guys but I also did think that all the costumes and set changing did distract the audience alot. One thing that ya'll did was put on a show. Um in their defense Sullivan received ALL of the girls costumes Saturday morning and the guy's Friday night. So yesterday was actually their 1st time with all the costumes. But the elton john melody- i thought was cool- once ya'll just clean it up a little bit, it'll be great.

Totino Grace: I loved you guys. Your show kept the audience's attention the entire time. Your costumes were great. And your second song with the 2 girls and the dull was absolutely hilarious i was laughing my head of in my seat. It was the funniest thing i've seen in a while. You guys have great facials.... the entire show!! Your ballad was beautiful, and the guys number was great- i got real nervous with Pat climbing all the way to the top of the boxes i was like nope that's not good... i just imagined that entire thing falling down and him falling off. But you guys did a GREAT job and i thought you should have placed higher.

Crete-Monee: I love you guys! I saw you for the first time this year at Southmont and you've made vast improvements on it. You have GREAT vocals!!! Your ballad is so amazing!!!! All of your soloist were great. I just have nuthing but great things to say about your entire show!! I think you also should have placed higher.

Twinsburg: You show was great. Like someone also siad before the sequencing over and over again did get to me..... but it was clean- you had a great solid vocal sound.... but i did feel wanting more with your show after it was finished. The set was really cool. good job twin dad's! You kept the engery up and did a grear performance.

Onalaska: You show was great! The part that i liked the most was the song with the chairs. "The Inside Out"..... great facials and energy- All you could do was smile whe you listened to the song. Your ballad was amazing- and Sarach- child you can sing!!!! I was amazed with your sound!! Your closing material kinda confused me a little- with the guy soloist with the low voice- i didn't like it to much- at first i was like who's the random kid on stage- but you guys did a great job- and you have great dancers.

EEE- You guys were the best!!!! Major improvements for last year's show. I loved your show from the beggining to the end- The music was upbeat the entire show and you never let us down. Your choreo was amazing and your vocals were even better. I love your closed!! I really thought you guys should of taken it! Amazing job- your officaly one of my favorite choirs now! I was just absolutely shocked and aw struck at your performance!! Great job guys!!

Mt. Zion- I was slightly disappointed in your show. With all the hype that was surronded by it. Your choreo was great- but you lacked alot of vocal energy- the highest point vocaly in your show was in your closer were ya scream. But you all can dance though!! Nice performance- i was just left wanting more. But good job.

The competition was ran amazingly- The parents are very nice and helpful. Overall a great competitoin with great groups- good judges- and overall a fun time!!

I figured that Sulli would be the insomniac that posted on here last night (this morning?) lol. Oh well, I'm second anyway.

ELLIOT ROBINSON WON BEST MALE SOLOIST!!!!!
Elliot, if you read this, you have a mini fan club in City Starz! Some of us have been watching you since that Michael Jackson solo in like 1999 or 2000.... And you still rock!

My order was:

GC: Totino - BV
1st: Crete
2nd: EEE
3rd: Onalaska
4th: Twinsburg
5th: Sullivan

Totino, your show was amazing! I was looking forward to seeing it all week after hearing some "hype" on here and I was not dissapointed. You girls had the best female sound I have heard in a high school group. The whole time you were on I was on the edge of my seat trying to take it all in. I think you brought the whole picture, your choreography was clean, vocals were awesome, and you had some cool effects on stage. I was freaking out that someone would fall off those boxes! And your character number was the first that made me "laugh out loud". Great Job!

Crete... you guys seem to get hosed every time. I have always admired your different style, and this year I was a little upset that you did some more 'traditional' numbers, but I think you just proved that you can do it their way too and still rock! Your ballad makes my heart drop... and the male soloist in the ballad.... I can't put what he does to me ::sigh:: Anyway, like Sulli said, you are so into every move that you make... its fantastic! Your 4th number, that broken wings song was beautiful... it blew me away. Anyway I'm starting another topic about the unfairness of your placing, so I'll stop gushing now...

EEE ok, first I have to say your ballad was fricking awesome. That was by far my favorite ballad EVER and you guys performed it great. Your show was energetic and your vocals were fantastic.... Great Job!

Onalaska was good, just not great. I just didn't feel it when you were on stage.

Twinsburg... I couldn't decide if you shoud be above ONalaska or vice versa... but your show was very entertaining. I loved the song choices, and your energy woke me up for at least 20 min, lol. I'm not usually a big fan of theme shows, but yours was original and very well done!

Sullivan... a big dissapointment? Sullivan is usually a staple in the well performing show choir community, but this year.... well I love Elton John, I'm just tired of seeing it thrown in my face that you guys can afford how many... like 3 or 4 Elton John costumes alone. The technical aspects of your show were cool... just a little overwhelming. There was no focal point and after a while I just gave up looking. THat's a lot of negative... it wasn't bad, just too much.

Anyway, I had a blast yesterday at Mt. Zion (at one point in the day I said "Zont Mion" lol) thanks to you for putting on a great competition.

Oh yeah, and Mt Zion ROCKED! We kept seeing those clips from the news and they showed a glimpse of your dance break... you guys SNAPPED! It was kick a$$ and I loved it!

I think there was some confusion on the finals results in this forum, the actual results were:

1. Onalaska
2. EEE
3. Totino Grace
4. Twinsburg
5. Sullivan
6. Crete-Monee

I think 3 and 4 were switched in the other posts

i just got back from Mt Zion, and i do have to comment on how BOGUS the results are! SO im gunna give you all my take on it...

real order..

1. Onalaska
2. EEE
3. Twinsburg
4. Totino
5. Sullivan
6. Crete-monee

should have been...

1. EEE
2. Totino
3. Onalaska
4. Twinsburg
5. Crete
6. Sullivan

.........here is my justification....

Sullivan- When my friend text messaged me this afternoon telling me that Sullivan was doing "For Good" and "Defying Gravity" i was SUPER EXCITED, cause i am in love with those songs and the musical in general...untill i got there and was disappointed beyond belief. The opener was boring (defying gravity) and the ballad was very plain, and the arrangement, to me was BAD! When they pulled off the "emerald city" backdrop i was excited with the colors and lights, untill they pulled so much **** onto the stage that it was impossible to keep your eyes on the performers! I kept finding myself watching everything else! And then when i actually watched them, it struck me that there might be a REASON for the attention drawn other places, cause they were not into it AT ALL!! (the set was cool, but WAY TOO CLUTTERED!!!)

Crete- I love thier show and to be put behind Sullivan by the judges was a CRIME! They were in to every move that they made, and the ballad was incredible as always. What i love about Crete is their facials, unlike Sullivan who i seriously almost fell asleep during their show. Crete should have been placed higher, and if anyone from Crete reads this i just want them to know that they did an amazing job and in my opinon got ROBBED!

Totino- Your show was very fun! I loved the opener becase it was very "in your face". The second song where you had the screens and the twins in the red was a crack up and i SWEAR i almost cryed laughing so hard when that dummy flew up in the air. I liked the guys feature tremendously and the box-pyramid was very cool along with the train thing that they did on the boxes. I was entertained the WHOLE way through, plus i really liked your vocals!

Twinsburg- I liked your theme, although, in my opinion, you did WAY to many ripples! The outfits at the end were very nice, and the spinners/fog was cool (even though one exhaust pipe malfunctioned). Most ripples were good, and i understand that they were cool, but it seemed to me like they were just put in there to take up time that you DIDN"T have to do ripples! I think you deserved the place that you got, although totino's vocals were alot better than yours, but you choreography saved you cause it was VERY clean.

EEE- You should have won! You rocked out like no other!! I thought you deserved the grand champion over onalaska by a mile!!! Your vocals were great and your choreography was amazing, not to mention that every single person was into it that whole time! Your dancebreaks were incredible and i was amazed that you worked so hard throughout the show and KEPT the energy up the whole time! I was very impressed and i loved the ballad as well! I hope you guys get better and better as the season progresses because i am SURE you will be getting GC soon!

Onalaska- Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, where should i start!?! I thought that onalaska wasn't even CLOSE to deserving the place that they got....it seemed that they were more into celebrating their win then they were performing their actual show! At one point i looked over at my friend who had practically FALLEN ASLEEP FROM THE BOREDOM OF THEIR SHOW!!!! Nobody in their whole group was into it! Although their opener was "bring the house down" it was very NOT bringing the house down. I do have to give mad props to Sarah Brown on her solo in "soar"....WOW! My mouth was on the floor the second she opened her mouth! It was sooooooooo good. I am doing quite a bit of dissing here but to their defense their choreography was clean and their vocals were ok, but nowhere near those of EEE and Totino....i understand that the only people that a show choir needs to please are the judges and apparently they DID please the judges, but i think that the crowd is a MAJOR factor in the performance of a group and they were not energetic, the crowd was NOT into it, and they performed bad.....lets hope tonight was an "off-night" for onalaska.

oh! i wanted to make a few comments about MTZ.....

1. This is the first time i have seen their show this year and i was disappointed, with all the hype i felt that they were over-rated and don't deserve all the attention that they are getting.
2. dances are clean and the band was good
3. VERY ENERGETIC
4. awesome costumes

I didn't mean offense to ANYONE by this post, it was just how i saw things, and although i ranted alot it was a GREAT competition...kudos to every group that performed!

hey Guys, got back from the comp. anyway here is what i thought.
I thought that the best shows tonight were deffinitly EEE and Onalaska. I didn't espeically Totino, Twins, or Crete, although i thought that it was OK. I really did not like Sullivan's show, gain these are all opinions. NE way, i thought that EEE was a little better than Onalaska. Oh, Now for Mt. Zion, Wellhmmmmmmmm... THEY KIcked it. i think they were the best there. I loved their show and Everythng about it was flippin awesome. Neway, everyone was great. I wil post later of what i think could be better in each group, but tonight is bedtimme.
