I obviously missed someone's post along the way, but in light of this recent flurry of posts of people defending their need to speak their mind, let me re-clarify the boundaries of showchoir.com.

This discussion forum is a place where people involved in show choir can come together and discuss their lives on any topic they'd like, without fear of being chastized or second-guessed on their views or opinions.  Most often during competition season, the topics tend to be about show choir (big surprise), and often times that means people expressing their opinions on other groups.  Just like any other form of artistic expression, much of the value of what we do is purely subjective, and there are likely to be disagreements over "who is better" or what people enjoyed more.  There is no right or wrong opinion, and there is no problem with expressing your mind on these kinds of topics.  Visitors need to understand that everyone has their own perspectives and we all come from different places.  What will not be tolerated are vulgar or obscene comments, threats or slanderous remarks toward an individual or group, or any kind of discussion of illegal activities.  This should be common sense, but now and then I am reminded that I need to restate the general picture for those in question.  Please be respectful of each other and have a good time.  That's what this website is here for.

AND GOD OPENED UP THE SKY AND SAID LET THERE BE LIGHT!!! (and there was light and it was good but people on SCC are not smart enough to realize it)

Is Sullivan really doing music from Wicked? That's awesome! I can't wait to see them myself in a few weeks

and can I be the first to tell you to LOSE the attitude! NO, i am NOT a judge but for you to criticize me on my opinions without even knowing what is REALLY going on is wrong! How the HECK would you know that someone came in there with a favorite group, and personally i just want to say that i came in there TOTALLY neutral (this was my first time seeing Ona and EEE and totino) And i am SOOO happy that you called the placements perfectly ( ) but i have NOTHING against any group there and i am certainly not jealous of anyone. I am not saying that my show choir is the best (cause we are nowhere near it), all i am saying is my opinions and anyone who is going to RUDELY try to stifle opinions of anyone on this board needs a rude awakening (no pun intended, lol). The purpose of a "forum" is to (well hold on let me get the dictionary)....

n. pl. fo·rums, also fo·ra (fôr, fr)

1.The public square or marketplace of an ancient Roman city that was the assembly place for judicial activity and public business.
2.A public meeting place for open discussion.
3.A medium of open discussion or voicing of ideas, such as a newspaper or a radio or television program.

.....that is pretty self-explanatory. So im going to wave around (like a giant flag) my right to openly discuss anything that i want on this forum. If you notice in this post i NEVER once criticized YOU on what you thought about the competition. I am not going to turn around and criticize you on thinking that the placements were right on, i am only going to say that i disagree.

And there is nothing wrong with putting up what WE (as spectators) think of each group and comparing. It is in no way wrong to voice our opinions about the competition or the final judging. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, as are you...but it isn't right to try and tell me or anyone else that I'm "jealous" or trying to "bash" another group cause that isn't how it is at all. I said IN ALL OF MY COMMENTS that the groups all did a fabulous job...I merely added what I thought of each one...because I can. The groups that attended yesterday are ALL my favorite groups, some I like better than others but I am not unjustly praising ANY group. They all did good, you are correct...but some have performed better and I know that if I was competing yesterday, I would want to know what other show choir members thought of my performance.

But thank you for being rude, it brightened my night. Once again, you think they were fairly placed, I didn't...but the difference is, I'm not trying to tell you that you're wrong! People can form their own thoughts on things, that's what's so great about FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

But I do agree that all the groups yesterday were FANTASTIC and if I didn't portray that message in my earlier post, I would like to say that now! So congrats to all!

Hmmm can I be the first to tell you that who are you to go saying all that crap about the groups? What are you, a judge? No, you're a student. I went to Mt. Zion as a spectator, not even going in with a favorite group, and I called it from 5th runner up to Grand Champion. I was in no way having a favorite or wanting one group to win over the other. Just because you may have something against another group or maybe you're jealous, doesn't mean you have to go and bash on someone else's group and praise your favorite group. Every group deserved what they got, and the judges were very fair on placement. Anyways, CONGRATULATIONS to all the groups, you all were fantastic~

Hm, yes to start off, I agree with Steven. You can't voice your opinion and then try and bash someone else and say that yours is right...that was incredibly rude. That is why it's called an opinion. Just thought I'd put that in there. Also, Attache is definitely the best overall group I've ever seen. They're amazing and just wondering if you've ever ACTUALLY watched them...ever.

Placement as I thought it should have been:
GC: EEE (BC)
1st: Totino Grace (BV)
2nd: Onalaska
3rd: Crete
4th: Twinsburg
5th: Sullivan

Totino Grace- First time ever seeing you and you have definitely made a fan out of me! Great show, so much energy. Your character number was hilarious and I can tell that you put a lot of effort into making this show what it was. The costuming was great, I especially liked the girls opening dresses. Overall, amazing job! I can't wait to watch you on the finals tape! I do however think that your finals performance wasn't as good as your prelim performance...but that is a minor detail and not enough difference to have put you as 2nd runner up, you got ripped. Your vocals were amazing and by far the best of the day, I'm pretty sure all of our group agrees with that! Keep up the GREAT work!

EEE- You guys snapped! I think this is the best show I have seen you do! I don't know where to begin. Amazing choreography, THE BOYS absolutely rocked out on their number! Strong vocals, AMAZING soloists. Your ballad is terrific! Your dance breaks were TERRIFIC, overall you were GREAT! You were the only group I think that had a strong performance in both prelims and finals! Your show kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! I can't compliment you enough for a job well done! Keep up the amazing work. Your vocals were a little weak at times, I think that can be improved upon but GOD! I am still excited just THINKING about your show! One thing you can do without, Crazy In Love. Nice effort...just get rid of it though. Your closer was AWESOME! Elliot, you are FABULOUS! Congrats on your solo in the show and winning the solo competition! YOU ARE AMAZING! We were all rooting for you! GREAT JOB! I can't say it enough! Oh, and your band was FANTASTIC!

Onalaska- I was slightly disappointed by your performance yesterday. Not that your show was bad but I have seen you perform MUCH better than you did. It did seem a lot like you were celebrating your win before it happened, but you should have been more careful because not only does that bring on talk (much like this) but you also came DAMN close to losing GC. Nothing about your show was terribly bad, good vocals and choreography...everything was clean. But...your show was boring and also very Mt. Zionish. I've seen all those songs done before, so if you want to impress me, you have to perform it BETTER than the group that previously did. It seemed like you put no effort into yesterdays performance and it was blatantly obvious. You guys are a good, strong group. Just put a little more effort behind the talent. It seemed like none of you even cared about pumping the audience up at all. I ALWAYS perform for the audience before anyone else, judges included because to me, it's a much bigger compliment to have people telling me how fantastic we were or having A MILLION people posting about our amazing show than recieving an undeserved grand championship! Mad props to Sarah Brown on her ballad solo though and on winning the solo competition! You have an amazing voice and definitely brightened up your whole show.

Crete- YOU GOT SO HOSED! Every year I sit and watch you guys bust out with amazing shows...it gets better with time, but you always get robbed out of good placement! This year I was also slightly disappointed that you guys lost some of your "ghetto" edge we're so used to, but you have proved you can do a "typical" show choir show your way and still make it awesome! As usual, amazing show...great vocals and you definitely ROCKED OUT with your choreography! Your ballad is my absolute favorite EVER and your soloists are amazing! Your dresses were beautiful. I liked the added Broken Wings from Southmont...the boys costumes though...EEK! Kinda scary! Overall, amazing job. You've been my favorite group since my freshman year and it's great just to watch your progress from year to year! Keep up the good work and know that City Starz! is always rooting for you guys! You're all amazing!

Twinsburg- Your set was AMAZING! Liked the fog and spinning rims. Very nice touch. Usually I am not a big fan of theme shows, but you had some great songs (Life is a Highway!) that got me WAY pumped up! Overall, I didn't particularly enjoy your show this much as I have in the past. I was slightly bored because it seemed like you guys didn't have as much energy as you once did. Vocals were a little weak, but the choreography was very clean. Good costumes. Bring your energy level up a smidge and you'll definitely see some awesome results! Overall, good job!

Sullivan- Wow, a lot to say here. Good show! We were the ones screaming when we heard you were doing "Defying Gravity" and "For Good" I absolutely love Wicked. So, you have this amazing show line up...and then what? Your opener was very boring even though I am in love with the song! The arrangement was horrible. The ballad was beautiful. I like how you used your set, the lights were nice during the ballad. Then we got to the end. There was so much going on, I didn't even know where to look! Everything was cluttered and crowded, costumes everywhere, stage crew everywhere! I got so flustered I eventually gave up watching and started reading my program! Because of all the props, etc. it ended up screwing up placement and moves...just too much going on. I do admit though that your performance was a lot better in finals, I think that in time things will begin to look more clean and your show won't be so confusing? for lack of a better word. Boys...fix your hats please! The pimp suits are hot but with the hats all in your eyes...you were trying to fix them the whole time and it just looked bad.

And even though Mt. Zion wasn't competing and not performing as well as they could have, this is the first time I saw them this year and after all the hype I was thoroughly disappointed in their peformance. Badass costuming and great choreography...but it wasn't clean and vocals were bad. I know you weren't performing at competition level, but you seemed bored and that made me bored. But good show and great competition! It ran very well!

Overall TERRIFIC job by all those who competed and I'm very upset we couldn't perform our show for you guys! I am looking forward to seeing ALL your shows at upcoming competitions!

"Onalaska- Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, where should i start!?! I thought that onalaska wasn't even CLOSE to deserving the place that they got....it seemed that they were more into celebrating their win then they were performing their actual show! At one point i looked over at my friend who had practically FALLEN ASLEEP FROM THE BOREDOM OF THEIR SHOW!!!! Nobody in their whole group was into it! Although their opener was "bring the house down" it was very NOT bringing the house down. I do have to give mad props to Sarah Brown on her solo in "soar"....WOW! My mouth was on the floor the second she opened her mouth! It was sooooooooo good. I am doing quite a bit of dissing here but to their defense their choreography was clean and their vocals were ok, but nowhere near those of EEE and Totino....i understand that the only people that a show choir needs to please are the judges and apparently they DID please the judges, but i think that the crowd is a MAJOR factor in the performance of a group and they were not energetic, the crowd was NOT into it, and they performed bad.....lets hope tonight was an "off-night" for onalaska."-foghorn2005

I would first like to say I agree with foghorn! But, Before I give my opinion, i just wanted to say that this is where people voice their opinions not to get mean feedback from anyother person...there is no point in being rude if you dont agree with the feelings of other that are expressed on this board, then get over it! Now, for MY OPINIONS....

6th... Crete-Monee
5th... Sullivan
4th... Twinsburg
3rd... EEE
2nd... ONALASKA
1st... Totino

Totino should have won best vocals.
EEE should have won best choreography(even though it wasn't as clean as ONA's but it was much more enjoyable).

H8rs, i think there are groups with a better tone than attache, But Attache wins the cake for the overall best at everything. Best at Choreo, Best Males, Best Costumes, Best Band, Best arrangements, and Best looking over any other group. They get praised because they deserve it. :Goes to jam to a lil less conversation:

Attache is good at dancing but my complaint is that they hardly ever sing and dance at the same time unless they are oohing and ahhing in the background of one of their many soloists that mostly dominanat their show.  Attache has a habit of standing while singing then danicng very well for a short time then stopping and singing. Not my favorite style.

wow i totally disagree! but not in a bad way....I don't think they ever sing at all except in their ballad...I think during every song except their ballad, their whole goal is to be as loud as possible and for some strange reason people find them awesome for that......wow if i ever become a show choir director i am just going to tell my kids to yell the words in some musical tone and then my group would be awesome i think that their group is just basically focused on dancing and then they just put just enough effort in their ballad so people will think they're "talented" I am just sick of them getting all this attention when musically they aren't even that good but dancing wise they got it in the bag

wow, i have a feeling (SouthernHospitality21) that you dont think before you type! Cause there is NO way that Onalaska is better at dancing than Attache, or any OTHER group at MTZ (albiet Sullivan)!!

Sorry, Attache wins best dancers in my book HANDS DOWN! :goes to watch MTZ and ATTACHE: ATTACHE BY FAR!

Twinsburg... Best Choreo... Please say it look alot different than last year cause after watching them from last year, NO WAY close to being better choreo than Onalaska.

Congrats ONALASKA!

One last thing I forgot. The quality of Twinsburg tone was the best part of their vocals. They have a very mature sound even if it isn't the most powerful.

Mt. Zion turned out yet again to be a great competition. All groups did a great job. It should have turned out:

GC: EEE or Twinsburg
2nd: EEE or Twinsburg
3rd: Totino Grace
4th: Onalaska
5th: Sullivan
6th: Crete

Best Choreograpy: Twinsburg hands down
Best Vocals: EEE

Crete: You guys did an awesome job and did a ton better than you did at Onalaska. You stepped it up in finals and really performed nicely. The opener is very catchy and done well. The ballad was awesome. The swing number is very good, though its all been done before. Broken Wings is my favorite song of yours. Its creative and different so good job for that. Your closer is high energy but needs a little more vocal power. Overall great job.

Sullivan: I have always been a fan of Sullivan and I still am. Was your show absolutely crazy? Yes. Did you still perform well? Yes. The opener has great costumes and its very classy. The vocals sounded great. The second number was probably my favorite. Once again, Manci sounded awesome. The ballad was one of my favorites of the day. Then the Elton John medley was fun and I loved all the costumes, and props and sets and everything. Whats holding you back is the transitions between songs. Clean up the costume changes and stuff like that and it will be a very strong show. You closed the show out well.

Onalaska: You guys did a good job, I'm just not a fan of your show. The opener is good with good energy and good vocals. The Next Five minutes is good, but it drags a little and I feel like it slows down the show. The Inside Out was not my favorite. Its not a character piece and its not a real song. It just feels weird the whole time. The vocals are easy and the dancing is non-existent. The ballad is good but all it is is a solo. Then the next song is very good. Hate the costumes though. The choreography is clean and the vocals sound decent. Then the closer is ok. Recycled and shouty vocals. I think the name carried them hear.

Totino Grace: I love this show. I have seen it four times now and I like it more each time I see it. The opener is awesome. Great energy, vocals, and dancing. The first girl soloist has a great voice and I wish I could hear her sing more. Hernandos Hideaway is amazing everytime I see it and so fun to watch. There are so many cool things going it. AWESOME. The transition song is so clever and done extremely well. The ballad is beautiful and sung unbelievably. The guys number is creative and one of the best around. The girls number is cute and does not wear out its welcome. The second soloist did a good job switching around the melody so the two solos sound different. The closer is awesome, but needs just a little more vocals. Overall great job. I think you might have even placed higher than you did if you didn't have so many technical problems in the finals but as a choir, you guys are amazing.

EEE: This is another show that grows on me the more I see it. The best opener of the day by far. The energy oozes off the stage. Wonderful Vocals and great performers. GREAT. The second number is my least favorite. Its not that drastically different from your opener and I feel like it slows the show down. But its still done extremely well. The ballad was amazing in finals and the soloists all kicked ass. Crazy little thing called love was fun and the soloist does a great job! Crazy in love isn't as bad as I thought it was. The first soloist is the best with a soultry "Beyonce" like voice. The girls shouldn't split into parts on the last part, it just doesn't sound good. Either that or tone the band down. The guys number is good with a soloist who has a great voice for the number. The closer is amazing. The dancing is phenominal and the vocals are great too. I don't see how you didn't win best vocals and overall I think Twinsburg should have won, but since the judges were going by rank judging, I thought you should have won because your two shows are so close and you guys had SOOOO Much energy. Great job.

Twinsburg: Amazed me again this year. Last year's show was great and so is this years. The opener is amazing and has some of the most creative choreography around. The costumes and the set are immaculate the whole show. I just Move On is wonderful and one of the best character pieces I have seen. The ballad is sung beautifully and controlled. I loved that fact that you guys ended soft. It shows that not all choirs have to end the ballad with a loud high note. It was different and I liked it. The transitions again are amazing. The guys number was good. I'm still not sure I liked the rap but it was done extremely well by the rapper? and the guys did awesome with the choreography. The closer was unbelievable and the dance break left me speechless, literally. The only complaint I have is I thought you needed a little more vocal power on the closer. Overall an amazing show and you guys got totally screwed. Best Choreography.

Mt. Zion: Truly Amazing, thats all I can say.

For all of you that think Danville got screwed, they didn't. They were not nearly as clean as the groups in finals or ready. Their show isn't as good or thought out as the groups in finals and the vocals were shouty and processed.

the two solo winners were great. The male was an amazing base who hit I think a D or C two or three times, which is amazing. Then he went up later in the song. Great job. The female was great too. I wouldn' t have chosen that song for a high school competition but she still did a great job with it.

Okay, this is not biased as I'm not a member of Crete anymore....I was shocked that Danville didn't make it over Crete, there vocals in the afternoon were...eh...Danville, great show BUT! I think your guys number (larger then life) ruined your score...from the angle i was sitting at the choreo was all off and the vocals were eh...otherwise, good job!

lol...this is biased. I was shocked we didn't make it either. But you are 100% right about the guys song. We got a lot of comments about the different variations in the choreography that we were doin, and that makes it hard to see an overall picture or focus on something, because you don't know who is doing what correctly. But yea, itll be fixed before we compete again. If anyone else saw us and can PM me or post some kind of critique about our performance it would be great because it helps to get opinions from outiside the group and from people who just come to watch and know what they like and dont like.

Someone posted earlier 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th place (I am WAY too lazy n tired to go back and find it) but there was a mistake. Crete-Monee Faces placed 8th in the open competition. I saw the scoresheets last night. Just wanted to make that clear.

Sorry I didnt think about putting Single-Gender groups in there before. I was just listing the ones out of the mixed groups and then I put the Single-Gender in another post. My bad " border="0" alt="innocent.gif" />
So it's somethin like this...
GC: Onalaska (Best Vocals and Choreography)
2nd: EEE
3rd: Twinsburg
4th: Totino Grace
5th: Sullivan
6th: Crete-Monee (Cavaliers)
7th:Danville
8th: Crete Monee (Faces)
...and I'll stop there cause I dont know where the other Single-Gender groups fit into the overall judging.
