We lost because of ONE judge. The blonde in the middle. While the other judges gave all 9 and 10s, the lowest number being an 8.5, the blonde in the middle decided to give 7s... I'll let everyone know Hanover and Manchester somehow tied in vocals at Powhatan, but here at Manchester, Hanover was destroyed by one old random blonde judge. 70/100 vocals from her.

Ms. Annette Layman (who will probably read this cause everyone gets on here and reads and doesnt post anything.) I suggest before judging, you reevaluate what show choir is, How their are MANY different styles, including classy, and what amazing vocals are. You sent a choir who works their ass off for vocal perfection home in tears. We all heard and felt "Vienna". WHERE WERE YOU?

Her Bio http://www.artsmission.com/arts/about/Annette.asp . North Carolina... the state without competitive show choir. She seemed like such a nice and pleasant lady too...

EDIT: After having a convo with Jamie and TScott, and calming down. I apologize for "attacking" Ms. Layman. Scott told me to consider that maybe she gave low scores to everyone... My B group almost had the same score as my Vocally Superior A group so I'm not sure that's the case, but he does make his point valid. Again, Sound FX, New Dimensions and Spotlight, it does suck it happened but it did, much love to yall!

Just got home...ugh, almost 2 in the freaking morning.

Kecoughtan: Congratulations on your victory!

Clover Hill...Good God...you were amazing. We met at school at 6 in the morning and performed at 10:30...so in the afternoon, I fell asleep in our classroom. When I woke up, you were on the projector...and all my kids were talking...and I was like, everyone needs to stop and watch this choir for a minute. You guys were phenominal. I couldn't hear you very well from my location, but I can assure you you looked like a million bucks.

Hanover...what can I say that doesn't sound like favoritism because we share the same amazing choreographer? I'll concentrate on your vocals, then. Your sound is so beautiful. I heard nothing the entire day that even remotely compared to you ballad. It was stunning.

Cosby...I still just love your style. I like your show. You're amazing.

I don't agree with the specualtion that show choir divisions should be based on types of shows...specifically because we don't get a lot of out of state traffic here. I have felt for quite sometime, though, that the rules for divisions should be more definitive, but if I were going to write them, it would be more around the number of students you have, first , and then your performance record. Some suggestions have been made where an A group could be allowed to return to B division under specific circumstances...such as a turnover in director. I can agree with that. I am really glad Virginia has gone to having divisions, but I still think this part of the comeptition scene could use some fine tuning.

I just think when it comes to judging different styles of groups, that's where its good to have vocals be a big chunk of the score. You can spend all the money you want on choreo, costumes, sets, and props, but if the vocals aren't there...you're toast.

Congratulations to all the participants. I got to see a LOT of shows I hadn't seen yet this season. It was refreshing and inspiring!

i personally think its very hard to have two completely different types of shows try to compete in the same competition... many groups in the area do, and have done for years, a very NON "mid west" type of show... i'm not say that one type is better than another, but when you have groups that clearly spend WAY more money coming to compete against choirs who do fine on their own in their own "type" of show it becomes really hard to decide which is "better"

i personally LOVE cosby's show types because its fun and edgy and non traditional... they dont do the same songs that everyone else does....they sing in 7 part harmonies and their choreo is SUPER involved and very intricate....

maybe things would work better is there were different divisions for different "types" of shows

without being unprofessional- i agree.

Without a composite sheet it is so hard to justify ANYTHING!.

We keep scores in basketball games, football games and show choir for a reason.
What if the referee of a sporting event was able to just declare a winner without any scoring>?

On an educational level- how do we gage our performances- how we teach the children how to produce a better product if we have nothing to compare to.

I agree it was a JOKE! The most ridiculous results I have ever witnessed. Here is what I think it should have been...

1st- Hanover (Best Vocals)
2nd-Cosby (Best Choreography)
3rd-Martinsburg (Best Band)

Those were easily the top 3.

This competition was a complete joke. Not being bitter, being real. Manchester should be ashamed.

Unreal results:
1st - Martinsburg
2nd - Colerain
3rd - James RIver

Vocals- Martinsburg
Choreo - Colerain
Show Design - Martinsburg
Band - Martinsburg
Solo - Amherst

Should've been (and I saw all the groups)
1st - Clover Hill
2nd - Hanover
3rd - Martinsburg
4th - Cosby
5th - James RIver
6th - Colerain

Vocals - Hanover
CHoreo - Clover Hill
Show Design - Hanover
Band - Martinsburg
Solo - Hanover

What a joke...

Sorry Highlights couldn't make it last night y'all. I do not choreo Highlights this year, but at Hanover High, we pride ourselves on performing high caliber difficulty as perfect as possible and Highlights just doesn't feel they are giving that off yet. Hopefully theyll be making an appearance at Clover Hill's Competition in April. If not, just prepare for an AMAZING Highlights next year. Your GC Highlights will return, and strong. (but it was a nice little dinner break right?)

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE STEAL ME A PAIR OF CHill's GOLDEN BOOTS? Girls Size 11, thanks!

BREAK LEGS TODAY MIXED GROUPS! Sound FX and (m)pulse, let's sing face!
