That is far from true. Picayune ran a very nice competition. Caption awards were chosen by the the judges. If i'm correct, the "Best Stage Crew" was choesen by the Stage Coordinator. The stage coordinator was NOT a picayune student, and had no affiliation with Picayune Schools. Comments like these are not immature, and needless.

If you paid any attention to what I said.. I "heard" how the caption awards were chosen. And as for you bringing up the "Best Stage Crew"... No one said anything about it.. I'm pretty sure the controversial caption award at hand is the "Best Choreography Award".. And I agree.. Comments like mine are NOT immature and needless..

I would like to say Congrats to all of the finalists Saturday! I was only able to be there for finals, a highly irregular event for us i might ad, but finals were amazing! After hearing prelim awards, Northeast must have stepped it up to pass West in finals. Congrats to East! I told you to keep your heads up! West, all I can say is what I said above, they must have stepped it up because yall did great! Congrats to the West girls and Forest Co making finals, it is awesome to make finals anywhere! South.. what can I say, you were amazing.. again! Keep your minds and hearts in it and you will go far!

Good Luck to all in Petal this weekend! Who knows.... I might just show up ALL day!!

I wish not to be catty, but cleary, you have no idea what it takes to run a competition seeing as how your school does not, and for that fact never will host a competition (your stage is not large enough). I have first hand experience from hosting other competitive events. However, you have no place to talk about thier competition being unorganized this year. They made vast improvements from last year. You also should keep in mind the fact that Mrs. Carter and her staff are relatively new to running a competition. I find it extremely admirable that Mrs. Carter and her staff continued the "Best of the South". They could have copped out after Mr. Mizell's move, but chose to continue. Before you make ludacris, un-educated, guilded comments, think. Your ignorance makes me think badly upon your group. Part of being in Show Choir is the competitiveness of the event, but also experiencing new things and being mindful of situations. Have an open mind and stop being ignorant. It's sickening. And yes, I attended the same event. I was there for most of the competiton. And newsflash, most competitions do last all day. If your group is that unsatisfied with Best of the South, try this. Don't Attend. Problem solved.

I've been competing in show choir competition in some shape, form or fashion for seven years now, including two recent years with the South Jones Invitational's kick-off. I, too, have some first hand experience concerning what it takes to host a competition, as well as what one should expect when you enter said competitions.

Ashley, though she and her group have never hosted a competition, have also competed, on more than one occasion. So, she also knows what to expect from a competition. Her disappointment in Picayune's competition was not uncommon among those who have participated in Best of the South's (three year? not sure) tenure, including this past weekend. Granted, a few minor setbacks/mistakes are expected, but as a host group (or even an avid supporter of the host group, as you seem to be) cannot expect everyone who competed at the competition to have been satisfied.

If I were in Forrest County's group? I'd be upset about the light thing.

If I'm from West, and our best soloists (quite possibly some of the best all day) mics don't work, I'm definitely upset.

If the curtain is opened early, revealing my group, unprepared? Oh yeah, I'm upset.

Now granted, South Jones won in the end, but it's no fun to have the feeling of working so hard (as all groups do) cleaning choreography, day in and day out, to be given the best scores, and yet have everyone at the competition think your choreography was inferior, because you weren't given the appropriate caption.

Ashley is far from ignorant. She's simply one of what seems to be many people who attended the competition Saturday, and has an honest, up-front opinion about it. I like to think that I am the same as she.

I highly disagree. Picayune has been very unorganized both years that my school has competed there. They ran completely off schedule, their announcer was freakin opening the curtain before each performance even started... how professional. The mic was not even on for quite a few solos, and the house lights stayed on for half or Forest County's opening number. Were you even at the same competition??!! It was freakin crazy all day long.

I'm really trying to understand.. I'm not taking hits at anyone or anything.. BUT if the judges chose captions(for example, choreography).. Let's say they gave south the highest score.. What doesnt make since is why they would change their minds and say "South you scored the highest, so in essence you are the best choreographed show, but northeast you have the best choreography" Does that make any since?

ANYWAY.. big congrats to finalist.. Every show choir stepped it up and did what show choirs do best.. Put on a show and entertain!

Hello all,
For some clarification, Picayune's judges and the officals of the competition decided to run captions differently from most competition in the South. They chose to decide competitions not merily by the highest score but by whom they felt did the best job in that catergory. Meaning even though South Jones had a higher score the judges felt that overall Northeast had the "best choreography". Just how the judges felt all the other captions were the "best captions". By doing all the captions that way they felt that they could get away from the classic way of one group running away with all the awards, unfortuatelly it did not work out that way. I'm sure that since all of this confusion was caused by this way of choosing captions that Picayune will go back to the classic way of whoever has the highest score in that catergory that group will obtain that caption. Sorry for such a confusion!! We just wanted to try something new.

Since you weren't in the finals, how do you know what the score sheets say?

My post was not to claims reguarding judges scorings. It was to your claim about students from picayune simply choosing captions. I'm certain Mrs. Carter would not allow that. My group not performing in finals is irrelevant concerning this claim.

So what you're telling me is that the judges are bipoloar?

The judges gave South the highest choreography scores.

Northeast was given the "best choreography" caption award, that you say the judges chose (the same ones that gave South all the highest scores)..?

Does that add up to you? It certainly doesn't to me...

I agree. If the judges had wanted East to get the caption award, then they would have scored it that way.

There were some crazy things going on with scores and things....if Northeast had actually (score wise) won all of those captions then they would have been grand champion...I love Northeast don't get me wrong that's just how things work at all the competitions I've ever been to....something weird went on with solo competition results too....the girl from West Jones was good and I'm a little bias because my brother was 2nd place but looking at the score sheets...they give you the scores for all three and 3 of the judges had put him in 1st place according to their scores and the other 2 had put him as 3rd...so I guess it equals out right...I just don't think a choreography judge should be judging a solo competition
(a solo dance competition yes but not a vocal competition) lol but like I said I'm a little bias....everyone in finals did wonderfully and I wish everyone good luck in the rest of the season
