for the last 2 posts... I have been to 8 of the 11 or so music city show shoppes... and yes I WAS in the same audience,...

Just because McGavock didn't do a "traditional" show doesn't mean that they aren't good. Who cares if they had a girl ride on a bicycle... I seam to remember a certain AMAZING group drive a motorcycle on stage. HMMM seems to me that those groups are putting in props and choreo styles that fit songs. There is sometihng to be said for variety and appropriateness of choreography and props. And that belmont grad who judged choreo has been doing companys choreo for atleast 3 or 4 years. So, I'd say she knows a little bit about that kind of stuff. Did you notice that Belmonts company's choreo fit every song and it wasn't the same "ARMOGRAPHY" that has become oh so popular this year (gag). McGavock might have been a little unorthadox. But hey, they sold it better than several groups in finals. They sang VERY well too... maybe you were to distracted by not seeing a groups trying to find 100 things to do with there arms in one song and didn't actually take in their show... idk could be me... and might I add that this is MY opinion...

Since going to the show shoppe I have seen years where the finalists were almost all from illinois and had a more national draw. I will admit that this was the weekest set of groups ive seen there in a while... I always remember one year when the finalists where Petal, Mt. Zion, EEE, Sullivan (when they were amazing), and someone else. I think that was 02. I am sad to see the pool of groups being limited to the south more andmore...

Hey company guy, I know you have probally been instructed to be guarded in what you say, so let me clear some things up for some people. To say the groups were great is slightly diffrent from what I saw. This was the weakest set of groups as a whole I have seen at Belmont, and I have been there like four times. I have always thought that the Music City Show Shoppe was one of the best comps around, located in a great city with a good venue and well organized and run. Well it didn't resemble that this weekend. Lets start with the Mic problems, well they didn't work all day and I know Mr. Kimmel explained that they were using $5000.00 each sennheiser mics and were having problems with two radio stations causing problems, but that didn't seem to be all of the problems, they just didn't seem to be able to turn them on when needed. Regardless of what was the cause it created major problems for the groups. Now lets talk about how things worked with respect to the flow of props on and off the stage. A few of the groups had large props, larger than the space behind the risers would accomodate and opening the back curtain would have allowed more space, that was refused by those in charge of the stage even thought Mr. Kimmel said it could be opened. Thus some groups Albertville for one had to do totally without their backdrops. When finals were announced there was a one hour break from 6:30 to 7:30 and those groups who didn't make the finals had the drive around the PAC blocked with their buses so that Tupelo and West Jones (the first two groups to sing) couldn't start unloading their equipment until 7:20. Belmont staff was notified of this problem at about 6:45 and showed little concern and made little if any effort to correct the problem, it finally worked itself out at about 7:15 when Pell City and others started moving their buses. Now to the judging, I can only assume that show choir was new to some of the young Belmont grads that were serving as judges, as anybody who has watched show choir for any amount of time can tell a well thought out and chorographed show. Well imho a show that contains people riding bikes across the stage and girls doing cartwheels while wearing their opening dress, as well as a guy wearing a pink tutu, well each group can put what they want in their show but to me it should be obvious to the judes that those things are amature at best and not what top level show choir groups include in their shows. Yet this group made the finals as well as their girls group placing in their division. All I can figure out is this year Belmont must have wanted the local groups to do well and I'm sure it would be nice for them to have more participation from local groups, but if this is the kind of entertainment they want to reward then they can look for a fall off in attendance as its not the level of show I wish to see. I know this is long and it dosen't even cover all that was messed up and I have tried hard to just state the facts and be objective, I don't think anyone would have been supprised if Albertville or South Jones had of won instead of Tupelo, that wouldn't have been a shock. I for one am sadden that a once great competition was reduced to what I saw Saturday.

yes.... they had a better choral sound... and they were more orriginal... and sang a lot harder music... west may have out danced them, but not by near as much as mcgavock out sang them...

Well Choir Jock, were you in the same auditorium as the rest of us on Saturday! Capitol Sound was not even in the same league as the rest of the groups in the finals. To use their name in the same sentance with Company, Centerstage, Wave Connection, or Imagination is an insult to those groups! Pink TUTU's....enough said!

I watched all 5 finalists in finals... and the judges decission was... actually the same as mine... minus the vocal caption.

So you agree that McGavock Capitol Sound was better than West Jones Imagination?

I watched all 5 finalists in finals... and the judges decission was... actually the same as mine... minus the vocal caption. I don't know who I would have given best vocals though... tupelo sang VERY VERY well,... but it was SOO EASSSSY... where albertville sang very well and had the best choral sound but got swallowed up in the ending... Company had some realllly great parts to their singing but no real variety, everything was harsh, but still easy enough to listen to...

So my take on the GC not winning a caption,... Tupelo didn't have the best visuals or the best music,... BUT they DID have the BEST BALLANCE OF SINGING AND DANCING... I would love to see their director challenge them a little more musically though... GO TUPELO!!!!... GO ALBERTVILLE... GO SOUTH JONES... GO MCGAVOCK... GO WEST JONES... GO EVERYONE WHO COMPETED!!!!!

Well, looks like we have an Onalaska 03 here!!! Almost exactly, just different groups obviously, Tupelo must've had better choreography than South Jones, but worse vocals than them, and better vocals than Albertville and worse choreography.

hmmm... true. In this scenario though, the scores HAVE to be painfully close for all 3 groups.

Btw, this is a GREAT win for Tupelo... congratulations.

And of course congrats to A*Vegas, South Jones, and West Jones for making Finals.

Ha, I couldn't go because I was sick and I still am...I had a fever of 102.4 last night. Regardless though, I wanted to be there and I heard things went well. However you can definately count on me being at Nationals!

Where are you going to linedance? If your gonna go to Wild Horse then you get kicked out at 9 unless your 21, and all the other bars you have to be at least 18 usually

haha we are going to wild horse tonight. we knew we'd get kicked out at 9 but thats not really a problem considering we all are gonna want to go to bed early. i can't wait to see all the groups we haven't seen at south jones, petal, or homewood. good luck to everyone!

and this time, we aren't bringing sets haha
