I think it's ironic that a certain group went from showing their "sportsmanship" to not even being predicted to make finals #karma

The small school competition, happening at North Polk Middle School, results have been added. Des Moines Christian was the top scoring small school group and they will advance over to North Polk High School and compete in the large school finals. The small school (Tier II) finals are the 2nd-6th scoring groups from the middle school venue.

The Tier I finalists are now added as well. Kudos to North Polk; announcing every placement for prelims was nice to see to recognize all of the choirs.

We will need help adding in Best Soloist names. They gave two per division, so that's a lot! Feel free to comment below with names and we'll get them added.

Predictions for this comp:

GC: Ankeny "Visual Adrenaline" (BV)(BC)
1ru: Indianola "Side One" (BB)
2ru: Valley "Choralation"
3ru: Ankeny "Perpetual Motion"/Southeast Polk "Ramification"
4ru: Southeast Polk "Ramification"/Ankeny "Perpetual Motion"
5ru: Des Moines Christian "Light Inc."

Other groups I could see sneaking into finals include Liberty "Storm" and Lewis Central "Corporation".

Good luck everyone!

So I have now counted 20 schools-did I count correctly? How is this going to be manageable without running out of food and actually have enough space for this many choirs and spectators?

I also hope to see/hear better sportsmanship this year.

They had multiple places for performances, but the common areas were packed.

Also yall are sleeping on indianola in the predictions. They have improved considerably this year.

Could I inquire about the "see/hear better sportsmanship"? (New to this competition this year so I'm curious)

Last year there was a particular school (not a DSM metro school) that showed very poor sportsmanship and were chanting in celebration as soon as the 1st runner up was announced-not allowing the team to celebrate..Friendly competition should always be expected-but poor sportsmanship is not acceptable. Also, when there is a “tie” during finals-a flip of a coin should not determine the tie breaker. The rule book should actually be followed. If the tie breaker isn’t able to be broken, the groups remain tied and trophies are awarded. In last years case, SEP won Best Vocals which means that should have broken the tie- it flipping a coin.

Two show choir performance centers (4A only, and a 1A-3A center) plus a jazz choir contest, plus a musical theater solo contest. Impressive they have enough volunteers to pull all that off!! Hats off to them, it's a huge undertaking.

Luckily this year, we are in both our middle and high school buildings located on the same campus so that should help alleviate congestion. We hope you give us another chance this year.

I wasn't there and can't speak to the specifics, but this sounds much more like someone airing dirty laundry than an actual plea for change. For starters, Liberty hadn't won since before the pandemic. I'd certainly be excited if I were them and I will certainly give them the benefit of the doubt that any supposed poor sportsmanship was out of sheer joy. Secondly, ties during finals are broken according to the handbook. If the handbook says flip of a coin, that's what happens. Considering SEP is back again this year, I would say there's no foul play. Have fun and good luck this year!

Looking at the school website and school map, it doesn’t show any home rooms for Lewis Central. I’m hoping this is an error and they aren’t overbooked.. ??? Thank you.

This has all the maps updated. Our apologies, Their homeroom got left off of our initial map. It should be updated along with all of the other information!
