Huntington has an unbelievably strong season taking on groups like Homestead and Avon and tieing with Findlay for best choreo. I think Huntington has this one in the bag.

Hello all, new show choir dad here. Can someone explain how scoring works for qualifying for State? I know some shows are state qualifiers and some are not. For those that are, is it your best score, an average of all scores, or an average of some specific number? Or is it none of these and determined some other way? Also, going back through the history, it appears they take 9 schools some years and 10 others. How is that determined?

I believe it's an average of your top 3 Issma scores in that day time of an Issma competition. I'm also fairly certain it's only 9 groups but maybe if there's a tie it's been ten in the past?

It changes yearly how you qualify. And is always very hush hush. But the top scores either by an average of all their scores or whatever their top score is (typically) is how it’s organized. They invite 10 groups, but groups can decline their invitation and it can open slots up to other groups or they will leave it at 9. Hopefully that helps!

I believe that this year, they take the top 2 scores a choir has gotten from an ISSMA site, and average them out. The top 9 in each division that can (but in most cases now, want to) attend are the competitors. Large school and small school divisions are separated by student body size, rather than choir size. If a school has a student body of 1559 or less, then they will be in the small school division. Hope this helps!

I’m old and it’s been a long time since I competed but what I remember is highest total in any state qualifier competition no averaging
